I'm in the mood for
A large iced coffee with a medium back
Airing out my sweaters
The end of the dog poops and Geege's general malaise
Rambling around a quiet beach town
Sinking into a good book
Seeing a sunrise
Anyone but trump
Finishing up some work projects that have dogged me through the summer
Purging my kitchen
Meandering around slowly on my bike
Figuring out how to maximize the one storage closet I have at the shore
Talking to people who actually know what they're talking about instead of making sweeping and gross generalizations
Cleaning out my freezer and pantry
Friday.
Good thing the weekend is here. Have a great weekend mon frers!

Thursday Thoughts - I feel a change in the weather, I feel a change in me
Wishing every Tuesday was as great as this past Tuesday. I don't think I've ever said a nice thing about a Tuesday before. I thought I would die on that roller coaster so it's all gravy since I lived.
Drinking La Croix on the beach. It's awesome. My favorite is grapefruit but I also like passion fruit.
Raising money for pancreatic cancer research. My family is walking in the Purple Stride walk on November 4th in memory of my grandmother. We are Madeline's Marchers and you can donate to me here if you are so inclined.
Getting my poop in a pile after the summer season at the shore. I had someone out to measure for a stair runner on Tuesday, took all the quilts to the laundromat yesterday, and went to the carpet place Wednesday to look at carpet (while my shirt was on inside out the whole time). Our wall heat/air unit is being serviced today, I have an email in to my electrician about changing the lighting on the ground floor, my Dad is installing new smoke alarms this weekend, I ordered a new box spring and bed frame for one of the beds and new lamps for the living room, and my list making is off the charts. Now that most of the big stuff in the house that we wanted to do when we bought it is done, we can work on small improvements. It wasn't all work on Wednesday. I also hit the library and had lunch at Jon & Patty's.
Worrying about the Dreamers. About our humanity as a nation. About the intentions of a president who would make an announcement like this as so many are devastated by Hurricane Harvey and so many more are bracing for Hurricane Irma. The Dreamers came here as children. This is their country. There is nowhere to return to. Congress had eight years to bring this into law before Obama stepped in and did it for them. If he was overreaching, aren't all current EOs overreach? These people are not only not a problem, they are our freaking neighbors. They are the people we sit next to in church, the person who picks up a bag we dropped on the way to the car, the guy we sit next to in class, the woman who tells us she read that book and it was good. What was wrong with letting Obama's work stand here? Or anywhere? Stop the fucking insanity. Why would you support someone who wants other people to live in fear? If you want to defend the Dream Act, please call your congress person today. If you don't like phone calls, please text RESIST to 50409 and fax your message for free using ResistBot. If you would like to do more, visit United We Dream. And after saying all that, it seems crazy that so many of us white people are arguing about who has a right to be on this land we outright stole from indigenous people in a ruthless and bloody manner. We all need to sit the fuck down.
Sending MFD off to Houston tonight. He's signed up for shifts with the Houston Food Bank. We had an American Airlines voucher that was about to expire that covered the flights, he's splitting time between a cousin and a fraternity brother, he used points to book his first night hotel and a car rental, and has some birthday money from my parents for spending so he's all set. This is what he wanted for his 40th birthday so this is what he got.
Reading The Dark Lake by Sarah Bailey. Show Us Your Books is Tuesday!
Packing up to leave the shore only to return again very shortly. I got home at 8:00 last night and will be heading back there by 6 on Friday.
Reminding everyone, even though I have shared this a lot...
Sharing an e-card like every Thursday

Three Things - September
Three experiences I recommend
Getting up early enough to see the sunrise every once in a while
A lot of alone time
Volunteering for something you truly care about
Three pieces of advice for everyone
Show up.
Say no when you want to say no. No excuses.
Know your strengths and never stop feeding them.
Commuting
Hot coffee since I mainly drink iced 365/yr now
Cleaning baseboards
Three things that are always in my fridge
Half and half, full fat - you can pry it from my cold dead hands
Organic pumpkin for my dogs
Sliced jalapenos
Three things that are always in my freezer
Broccoli florets
Power breakfast muffins
At least two meals I have made that can be thawed and eaten
Three things that are always in my pantry
An extra bottle of Simply Heinz ketchup
Peanut butter
Oats
Three most often used makeup products*
Mascara
Lipsense
undereye concealer
*most days it's just one and two or two alone
Three things I'll spend money on
Polarized sunglasses
Shoes comfortable for 80 year old lady feet
Dining experiences
Three things I won't spend money on
Cable, except at the shore where people expect it
Curtains
Movies
Now you go.
Happy happy first birthday to my goddaughter Libby today!

TWTW - the long one with the 40th
Thursday night shore arrival, Friday half day of work then on to celebrating MFD's 40th birthday with a sunrise, bike ride, breakfast at Ove's, very chilly fishing on the beach in the North End, deep tissue massages and reflexology at Sea Wave, and a dinner at Cousin's. It was a good day aside from Gus waking us up after 4.5 hours of sleep with a shitting escapade. At least it was on the floor? And ensured both of us were up for sunrise? Looking for the positives.
Saturday our last weekly renters of the summer checked out and left the house immaculate which was awesome. MFD knew her from band and it is always great to have people we know upstairs! I changed the comforter out on the top floor - I have not been happy with any that have been up there so far - picked up shrimp from 16th Street, went to the library, assembled furniture, made pulled pork and Mom's cranberry walnut feta salad, and sat on the porch staring at the relentless rain. Jenny and Evan and crew arrived around dinner and Angie shortly thereafter.
Sunday we did the beach followed by baked ziti, tomato pie, and veggies and dip at home. Amanda and Frank and this bunny rabbit arrived for dinner and homemade ice cream cake from A La Mode which as awesome homemade ice cream cake and cheaper than Carvel. Debbie had arrived by the time we got back from picking up the cake. We sang to all the September 1 babies then hit the boards for rides and more food before we collapsed and crashed at home.
Monday was a truly spectacular sunrise for the unofficial end of summer. I did a lot of food prep in the morning and we all hit the beach early. Nicole and Mark and co. arrived in the early afternoon and Evan and Jenny & co. left late afternoon. Taco night and seeing Angie and Debbie off, then a trip to the boards for more rides and food we didn't need. Frank & Amanda took off when we got home, and we dropped into bed exhausted shortly thereafter. Oh, and Monday morning? I woke up with poop ON MY ARM. Gus is having major issues from the antibiotics they gave him after his dental work. Horrified does not begin to describe waking up with poop on one's arm.
Fabulous weekend with a revolving door of framily to enjoy the days with. This is what life is about, right?
I'm still off today to enjoy the shit out of a quiet shore town. I'm off tomorrow too but that's for things like visiting a carpet place and cleaning and probably going to the laundromat and measuring dressers. You know. Not super fun but necessary stuff.
Ciao bellas. For those of you lamenting the loss of this season, remember that t's always summer in your heart.
Happy birthday Jamie today! Happy school time to Lola Jean and all the other kids!

Shit MFD Said Vol 43
Today MFD turns 40. One of the main reasons we have been together for 15 years this month is because there is no one I've ever met who thinks quite like him. And because he makes me laugh even when things are terrible.
Happy 40th MFD!
Watching Footloose
MFD: Steph, you know what I do when I have family quarrels?
Me: What?
MFD: I drive down to the empty warehouse and dance it out.
Me: What?
MFD: So much gymnastics.
After a midnight stop at a weird Wawa in the last three hours of a nine hour road trip
MFD: Let's get out of here.
Me: That was the weirdest Wawa ever filled with the weirdest people.
MFD: I know, and the cashier would not stop talking. I was saying I don't know what to get and she was saying how she has the hardest time and she works there and I was thinking just stop talking and let me step away so I can fart.
Me: That's why I don't have conversations with people.
MFD: Because you have to fart?
Me: No. Because they won't stop talking.
MFD: And probably because you have to fart.
On our way fishing
Me: You got a fucking visor mike?
MFD: Yep. It's for fishing
Me: I hate visors.
MFD: I thought about that for about five seconds then thought well she's not fishing.
Me: I can't believe you were on the phone with someone and said, "Sorry, my dog is mounting my other dog."
MFD: I know...and he didn't even say anything back!
Me: What was he supposed to even say? Totally useless and weird information!
MFD: Well I was screaming my dog's name in his ear. I wanted to tell him why.
MFD: Yep. It's for fishing
Me: I hate visors.

Me: I think he would have rather not known.
Me: What did you have for dinner?
MFD: Uh...your leftovers.
Me: What!
MFD: I thought you already ate.
Me: I didn't.
MFD: Well, it was good, so that's good right?
Me: What did you have for dinner?
MFD: Uh...your leftovers.
Me: What!
MFD: I thought you already ate.
Me: I didn't.
MFD: Well, it was good, so that's good right?
Happy birthday to my dearest Debbie today as well as Griffin and AJ & Drew May.
