If I knew Picasso, I would buy myself a gray guitar and play

Wednesday night after work I had some time to kill, so I submerged myself in the airless humidity of the grounds of the Philadelphia Museum of Art to check out the exterior sculpture garden behind the museum. The building itself is magnificent, I could walk all around and stare at it for hours.
Not to mention it has a killer view down the Parkway and the Rocky statue.
As well as a nice view over The Water Works. The sculpture garden is small but in general the exterior grounds of the Museum are a great place to wander, and it's free. Free is for me. Did I also mention it was hot? Hot is not for me.
After my sweaty foray around the grounds, I UBER'd down to the waterfront to meet Debbie & Melissa. We took the RiverLink Ferry over to Camden for the Rob Thomas & Counting Crows concert. I will never drive to a concert in Camden again. The ferry is the way to go. Ten bucks a person and no stress. I had a peanut butter and nutella sandwich with strawberry as a topper for dinner from Lunch Box Philly and it was delicious.
Rob Thomas was already playing when we got there. He sounded good and seemed like a cool guy that we all agreed we'd be friends with. The Counting Crows didn't come on until after 9. They were really good musically and Adam sounded great. The last time I saw them I was in college, and they played the songs off of August & Everything After very differently than they were recorded. They took a lot of liberties so it sounded more like what you hear on their live CDs. They did that with some songs at this concert, but what they also did was stray from their hits to play some lesser known stuff. I enjoyed it. I like how it's not necessarily a sing along for every song, but more like a show and of them pushing the limits of their music. I dig it. They didn't play Mrs. Potter's Lullaby but you can't win 'em all.
Let's see, what else...we broke our asses sitting on the lawn for a zillion hours, saw some awesome non-concert attire, smelled a shit ton of weed, watched drunk people fight and lose things and almost fall, witnessed a domestic dispute on the ferry back, and sweat every spare ounce of water out of our bodies.

Not bad for a Wednesday. But now it's Friday. It's still hot as fuck, but the weekend is upon us and I wish you all a good one.

  3. I don't know the names of songs! I will google Mrs. Potter. Interesting about the ferry. I may get seasick. Love looking at The Art Museum. Do not love that it's sticky hot out for so many days in a row. Thank the universe for AC , fans, and my healing ocean oasis. Carpe Diem today and every day. Love. Your. Momma.

  4. Fun fact: Never knew that Rocky statue was really there until we watched Creed a few weeks ago, and Jason told me that it is in fact there. Whoops!

  5. hahaha i had no idea there was a Rocky statue in Philly, that is awesome!
so Rob Thomas as in Matchbox 20, or a different Rob Thomas I don't know about? Lol. We saw Matchbox in Vegas on our honeymoon and Rob Thomas was..... odd. He seemed cool, but definitely a little odd. He was dancing very strangely and I don't think he blinked once. haha.
I love people watching, especially when I'm not drinking or only had a couple, and drunk people do seriously stupid things. Not bad for a wednesday at all! have a good weekend :)

  6. I love lawn sitting :) Like I said after your concert-goers post, I prefer the high fans versus the drunk ones (though I'VE only ever been the latter). Sounds like a good concert! Our next one is in two weeks- Ben Rector!

  7. I <3 Rob Thomas. I can't do the outdoor stuff like that when it's hot, I am just not a summer person. It's so stinkin humid here today, I feel sticky the second I walk out the door. I hate that feeling.

  8. I wouldn't mind seeing Rob Thomas or the Counting Crows. I do love going to outdoor concerts the atmosphere is so different than indoor ones. Glad you had a good time!

  9. That menu - those decisions :) How fun is that.
Fun fact - I've never had a PB&J - that place could have taken my PB&J virginity.

  10. I love the menu titles of all the different sandwiches! For some reason that's really tickled me. I'm all for not driving somewhere if I can possibly avoid it, it's so annoying to feel trapped in your own car in epic traffic or not being able to park. Car or ferry - I know what I'd pick every time. Glad the concert was good, hope you recover from all that ground sitting!

  13. LOL lawn seats are the best for people watching (and the endless clouds of weed), it's funny how concerts anywhere are like that with lawn seats. How beautiful are the grounds to the museum albeit it not air conditioned, and those views! So pretty :)

  15. I love sculpture gardens! We had so much fun exploring the one in New Orleans, and I love that you have such great views of Philly from this one! I can't believe that I didn't hear about that concert because I think that I would have loved it!

  17. I'd didn't get a chance to go in the Museum of Art when I was there two years ago, but my best friend and I had a great time channeling our inner Rocky's outside the museum. Yes, we were *those* tourists who ran up the steps and took pictures of each at the top, fists clenched and raised above our heads in triumph. LOL!

  19. The sculpture garden and those views look beautiful and a nice way to kill some time despite the heat. What a fun concert even with the crazy people watching.

  20. I love Counting Crows but haven't seen them live. I don't think I love them outside in the Houston summer, though, so it will depend where they play. I never realized how often you post about food that I would like to eat... add that sandwich to the list.
