TWTW - the first of two three dayers

Friday Work work work followed by porch sitting and reading and a sunset walk to the bay with the best friend dogs.
Saturday I was up and at it early, vacuuming the apartment and couches, mopping floors, putting recycles out, watering flowers, making hard boiled eggs (in the air fryer always) and spinach dip and cutting up cheese and cucumbers. Our first renters of the year checked out in the morning, our awesome cleaning crew came through, and my brother, Aubrey and the kids arrived around noon. Stephen's friend Drew came in the afternoon and we hit the beach after my nephew got up from his nap. Snacking for dinner and a walk to the ice cream place around the corner at night.
Sunday I slept in, and we hit the beach by 10:45 and stayed there until 5:30. Frank and Amanda and Eva came down for the day and we had a great day aside from the wind. The kids played together so well and we all relaxed and had a really nice day. MFD caught a striper right where we were sitting as soon as we all left. We hit the boardwalk at night and fell out. I had my first Kohr Bros of the season and it was glorious.
Monday I was out of office, and it was another wonderfully slow start. The wind was wild so we took a long walk on the boards and my niece rode her bike up there for the first time. She did awesome! The afternoon was comprised of porch sitting and Aubrey, Lola, and I walked down Asbury to some shops. Everyone was set up well with sanitizer and masks required to enter stores. We took another boardwalk walk at night, fish tacos for dinner. All in all I walked around four miles Monday. Always a good night sleep.

Happy birthday to my BFF Michelle yesterday! Three day week for me, Mom's birthday is Friday and I'm off because she'll be down the shore starting tonight so I'm cramming five days of work into three. Let's go.

How was your weekend?

Baby talk: tips for conceiving

If you recall, I urged anyone looking to get their writing out there to contact me. You might have surmised that this is one of those posts since I am not interested in conceiving a child or writing about doing so. This is from S., who is considering becoming a freelance copywriter and wanted to test out what it feels like to have her writing out there while still retaining some anonymity. If you're looking to start writing outside of fiction, start with what you know.

Having a baby is something many people want do in life (but not all people), and when the time comes to try for a baby, it is something we want to prepare for as much as possible. This is why when preparing to have a baby, we can make some changes to the way we live our lives and how we maintain our health for the best possible results.

Whether you are struggling with conceiving a child and want to look into the iui process, or you are a first time tryer looking to improve your chances: here are some things you can do to make the process easier.

1.Record menstrual cycle
When the time comes where you want to have a baby, there are a lot of things which can make a difference and help with the process. It is important for you to think about your menstrual cycle when looking to have a baby because it will ensure that you time sexual intercourse when you are close to ovulation for the highest chance of fertilization.

2. Monitor ovulation
Ovulation is the process in the body when the egg is released from your ovaries and travels through your Fallopian tubes. This is when you want to ensure you have sexual intercourse because this will make it easier for the sperm to reach and fertilize the egg as it reaches the womb. It will ensure that you are more likely to get pregnant. You can even buy an ovulation prediction kit to help you identify the exact day which you should have sex to conceive a child.

3. Have sex
Most women are fertile within a five day period during the month, as this is the time where the egg is been my released and is traveling to the womb. During this window, it is important to have sex as much as you can in order to increase chances of fertilizing an egg.

4. Be healthy
Health and weight can be factors when getting pregnant and the way you live your life will have an effect on the nutrients you are able to provide for your child as they develop inside your body. It is better for your overall health to be active and fit, and it is extra important to be fit and healthy while you are attempting to conceive and while you are carrying a child.

5. Take a prenatal vitamin
Another important thing you need to consider when it comes to getting pregnant are the minerals and vitamins you have in your body. It is crucial for you to think about taking a prenatal vitamin which will give you what you need to develop a healthy baby, including folic acid, B vitamins, and lots of other vitamins which can help with the formation of a spine in the womb as well as tissue.

6. Eat healthy foods
As we are talking about the health of your body as a mother to be, it is important for you to think about eating healthy foods. Healthy foods include things such as fruit and vegetables as well as plenty of protein. You will want to eat a decent chunk of protein because protein makes up the muscles and tissue of the body.

7. Mind the workouts
It is important to stay fit and healthy in the time leading up to pregnancy, however it is also important for you to look after your body and allow it to recover after a workout. While attempting to conceive, mind your workout recovery periods so your body can also focus on processes such as ovulation.

8. Think age
Although you might not think you are ready for a child at this point in your life, it is also important not to leave it too late. Having a baby is something which can change your life forever, but it is something which you have a limited window to do. Fertility declines for most women in your 30s and 40s and this means that you will be less likely to become pregnant as you get older.

9. Don’t smoke and drink
When you make the decision to try and get pregnant you need to start being more aware of your body and how your treat it. Even if you don’t think you are pregnant yet, be aware that you often won’t know until 8 weeks into your pregnancy once you have missed a period and showed some symptoms. If you have been smoking and drinking during this time this can of course have an effect on your baby so it is important for you to quit the habit before you even start to try. This will ensure that your developing baby is as healthy as it can be.

10. Know when to seek help
After six months or so of trying to have a baby, you may need someone to advise you on what to do. It is crucial to ask for help if you feel like there is something wrong because this will allow you to gain an insight into your own fertility and it will ensure that you are able to take steps which work the best for you, and not waste your time trying something which won’t work.

Thursday Thoughts: any way the wind blows

1. I'm feeling in between this week...in between summer and fall, in between working and living, in between home and shore home, in between wanting to do and wanting to be lazy, in between this book and that book. In between isn't bad, it's just weird.
2. I'm not feeling in between on commuting. I'm feeling straight up worn out. It has been prolonged hell with the trains still out of service and the 20 SEPTA put back on last week already pulled off for further repair. Every morning and evening commute is at least 20-30 minutes longer than it normally is. It's grinding me down.
3. The Samsung Dishwasher Debacle of Summer 2016 has finally come to an end. After 15 phone calls, over 30 emails, and a lot of insanity, they have deposited the $404 they've owed me since July 18 into my account. VICTORY IS MINE.

4. Many Trump supporters are calling Hillary old...do they know he's older than she is? Continually LOLing and WTFing over this entire election.

5. I'm really doing it, you guys. I'm attempting to pack for Ireland in a carry on. Debbie showed us her ways at the shore last weekend. I'm giving it a go. It helps that I'm planning to do a load of laundry mid-way between the trip. I bought a new suitcase for the task at Marshalls and am waiting on a compression bag. I also want new leggings. So basically any recent shopping is for our upcoming trip.

6. And I've also been shopping for Libby, the newest member of my aunt army. Kim and Steve ushered this lovely little lady into the world last week in Boston. I cannot wait to meet her but photos will suffice until then.

7. Geege is this week's million dollar dog. He's having pricey as fuck dental surgery today. It worries me to have a 12 year old dog put under. Keep a good thought for him if you could!
8. Tomorrow! Are you ready?

TWTW - the one with the circle of life

Friday I worked from home: homemade donuts (recipe tomorrow) and furry coworkers. When I work at home Gus stands on one side of me and whines, Geege stands on the other side, and Mae lays on the dog bed and stares at me like a creep.
Kim arrived from Boston and we attended a Friday night viewing for our friend Mike, then we slunk through Target and ate our sad feelings at Brother's.
Saturday morning mass and funeral luncheon. It is always so great to see everyone and always so terrible when the circumstances are a funeral. People live in my memories and I can always see them at various points in our lives, but the first thing that goes for me is a what a person's voice sounds like. It was good to hear so many voices again. Mike wrote a song way back when and two of the other Mikes sang it at the luncheon. It was very appropriate. I used to not understand post-funeral lunches. As an adult I understand how important it is to gather, remember, and share a laugh in an informal setting after a funeral service. It's the turn for most of us. And I was extremely happy to finally meet KVSR's little angel baby Natalia.

I spent the next hour and a half crying up the NJ Turnpike. I just needed to get a big ass cry out and I did. It was cleansing and exhausting. Not so exhausting that I couldn't hoard Laura & Chris's baby for the next hour and a half. The newest Michael in my life was born on Friday at 10 lb 13 oz. I adore that his initials are MBD - which in his case of course also stands for Major Big Deal - and I love him so much already. That black square is covering up his don't steal this baby monitor. Technology is awesome.
Kim went north to Boston and I went south on the Garden State Parkway to the shore. It was a shitty, rainy drive, and I was over it by the time I got there but wired from swirling emotions and coffee in addition to renter noise so I was up past midnight. Sunday I slept in until almost 10 and then hit the beach and the boardwalk for a little. If you go to Ocean City, you should check out the L.E.H. soap shop on the boardwalk. The two I got smell delicious.
The rest of Sunday I spent cleaning up the efficiency, cleaning out the alley, going to Big Lots for cutting boards/coffee/dog toys, painting my nails, and eating a meatball sandwich from Voltaco's with CSI Miami in the background. Missed you, over dramatic Horatio. I left the shore around 8.
Weekly food prep: breakfast is english muffins topped with PB and bananas; lunch is Wawa salads; and I'll figure  dinner out along the way.

And it's the week before Memorial Day. Spring is still a fart in the wind and the temps this week make me think we're rolling into summer.

Happy birthday to my cousin Tracy today!

TWTW - the one with my people

Friday was the Villanova NCAA Men's Basketball Championship parade down Market Street - I stepped right out of my office to watch...and stood next to a student peeing in a bottle. Good times. We also got headshots taken, and I got this mask at Sephora after talking to the makeup guy about redness. Home to send MFD off to the shore for the weekend and talk to Lori until midnight, sustained by Trevose Pizza and the baked goods she brought.
Saturday we celebrated Baby D with a lovely shower complete with Val's special touches. As you can imagine, I was extremely pleased that the favor was a coffee mug. When it was over we went back to Laura's mom's house and spent a rainy afternoon lolling around on the couches for many hours, eating Brother's Pizza, and laughing our asses off. I felt so good leaving there. I love my old guard girls. Kim and I came back to my house and sat on my couches with Lori for a few more hours.
Sunday Target run with Lori, then we stopped in to see my fabulous niece Lola Jean, who was rocking her I Love My Aunt shirt since two aunts were visiting. On the right is the newest outfit purchased for Lola.
Weekly food prep-I didn't wannnna this weekend so I kept it simple. Breakfast: egg muffins with sausage and gouda; turkey taco meat and salsa (I wanted fresh, they were out, rat bastards) for lettuce wrap lunches; sweet bell peppers, snap peas, and oranges for snacks; and salmon with greek yogurt and dill/rice/steamed green beans for one dinner. Avocado toast for another, and I will probably make a pork tenderloin later this week.
The dogs are exhausted from visitors and excitement. And honestly? So am I. I didn't get enough sleep or drink enough water this weekend.
Sunday afternoon Jana and I recorded for The Armchair Librarians.

I finished a book (Show Us Your Books is tomorrow!), finished the first season of Flaked, and started Rectify.

Peace.
