Thursday Thoughts - when the sun beats down and burns the tar up on the roof

1. When your husband neglects to defrost the chicken Sunday, it's tots. Then you don't pull it out until Monday, and it's still not defrosted on Wednesday, and you're going to be out on Thursday and then you need to pack it up and take it to the shore and figure out what to do with it and damn it's a snowball effect.

2. Full summer season starts Saturday at the shore. We won't be back in the main house for more than an hour at a time until Labor Day weekend. This week the old girl is getting sprayed for ants, cleaned, and cleaned up outside. I'm off tomorrow because I'm not prepared for the season - my preparations have been too fragmented this year. I need to go through it all one more time and do some more outdoor cleanup. I secured MFD to do that too. We had an unexpected cancellation the week of July 4 (technical week is June 30-July 7) that appears to have resolved itself. Hallelujah and amen.

3. But first, tonight. Any Philly-area friends free to join us?

4. I had to go to the dentist for a cleaning Tuesday and I have to get g.d. fillings replaced a week from today. Dreadskies. You know my dental fear.

5. I don't go to the movies and in fact said sayonara to MFD and sent him solo to see Solo Tuesday night (9 pm on a weeknight? hellll no) but I'm totally going to see A Star is Born. Speaking of stars, did you see Bruce Springsteen The Man at the Tony Awards?

6. I've been sitting on a manicure and pedicure gift certificate since Christmas. Yet here I am still painting my own. Nails Zoya Rikki and toes Zoya Sia. As I see myself using the same colors over and over, which I never used to do (I sort of forced variety on myself that I didn't necessarily love), I think maybe it's time for another nail polish purge.

7. Dogs.

8. I fucking love my library for many reasons, but this Instagram post is the most recent reason. I am desperately ill about the separation of immigrants from their children at the border. Like, hello, if you read here, you know that I have been unhappy with this administration before it was officially one. The children in cages with the foil blankets and breastfeeding mothers having their children ripped away from them, it has made me feel desperate. Ill and desperate and wondering if anyone I know is okay with this. Can we all stand up and say this isn't right? Regardless of party affiliation, can we see this is not humane? If something like this was happening under Obama, should it just continue? Even if you want immigration reform, is this okay with you? What kind of disdain and hatred for someone’s humanity do you have inside of you to believe the appropriate punishment for someone crossing a border is to rip their child from them and put those children in cages? Who are we? Who do we want to be? This is not about politics - it's about humanity and what we as humans can abide by other humans suffering. If we can put ourselves in their shoes. If we will stand up for them. If we can even think about our children being ripped from our arms. Are we doomed to repeat terrible history? Have you seen the mural of trump and quote up at one of the camps? Very reminiscent of Arbeit macht frei on the gates of the concentration camps. This keeps me up at night. I am not well with this and I am not well with the world. Out of all the issues, this is weighing on me the most. I'll leave the North Korea shitbrew for someone else to discuss.

9. Reminder:

10. E-card of the week: The best kind of friends.
