Thursday Thoughts - What's new with you?

I'm reading: This Place Holds No Fear by Monika Held. This is the first book relating in any way to WWII I have read since finishing Lilac Girls in March 2016. That one wore on my soul for a long, long time. Tuesday is Show Us Your Books. Be there or be square.
I'm dancing: on the first of the month every month. I get a free copy of a not yet released book from Kindle First and it's the day I can pick my Book of the Month Club book pick. This month I chose Woman No. 17 by Edan Lepucki and as a bonus the much anticipated Into the Water by Paula Hawkins, which was free since I had a credit. Holler.

I'm buying: Too many pairs of athleisure shoes. I'm sure I'll be photographing all of them for IG at some point even though they are purchased to be comfortable for old ladies, not stylish. On a related note I got this pair of Sanuk flip flops from REI for 79 cents after applying REI points I didn't even know I had. Hollerrrrrrr. They provide a little more support than the regular yoga mat flip flops. Old bitches can't be wearing thin flip flops anymore.

I'm dreading: I have a dentist appointment this afternoon. It's been too long in between appointments for a genetic trash tooth mouth like mine and I know I'm going to need major things. I fear a root canal is coming. Hold me, mummy.

I'm recommending: you attend a panel of candidates running for any local election if you get a chance. I went to see Philly DA candidates speak at an event sponsored by the Northeast Times, Greater Northeast Philadelphia Chamber of Commerce, and Northeast Victim Service on Tuesday night and it was great. They are similar on paper, and the way they answered the timely questions really differentiated them. It's also helpful to me at least to see someone's demeanor. Out of the eight candidates in attendance, I had a favorite but would have been fine with three others filling the spot. That's always a good feeling.

I'm thankful: That we cancelled our vacation. I know that seems like a ridiculous statement. If we went, MFD would not be able to keep up with his busy season and I would not have been able to get everything done at the shore before Memorial Day. Being stressed the fuck out on your trip is not a good way to go into it.

I'm reminding: you of this momentous occasion and I'm pretty sure I use the same image every year.

I'm hating: My eye is twitching this week, this could be its own post. In short: injustice and the murder of Jordan Edwards; the POTUS continues to attempt to re-write history with alternative facts; instead of concentrating on protecting our right to clean air and water the EPA is now in the business of corporations over people, ignoring asthma, and reviving coalan anti-contraception wingnut is now running a family planning program that provides funding for poor Americans; the fact that people like Congressman Brooks exist period and as an extra rageful bonus that they serve as elected officials in this country; the fact that Pennsylvania is home to some of the largest groups of white supremacist motherfuckers like Keystone United. And the big mama, they are planning a vote on the newest iteration of trumpcare today - where Congress is exempt from the shitty stuff and C-sections, postpartum depression, sexual assault, domestic violence are all now pre-existing conditions. It is disliked by most Americans and opposed by nearly every major healthcare group. Oh, and they haven't scored it...so they don't know how many it will cover or how much it will cost.   Light up that Congressional switchboard.

I'm asking: you not to let anyone make you feel bad for saying something.

I'm laughing: at poop. Always.

  1. I always change the date on my board before I leave at the end of the day & I giggled to myself yesterday & said "May the 4th be with you" ... and then because I was raised Catholic "and also with you"

  4. Bummer about having to cancel your trip, but you're so right, it's way better than spending money on a vacation and not even enjoying it AND not being refreshed when you get back. Good choice.

  5. The poop image and the kind person/f*ck off image are the perfect combination of everything I needed this fine Thursday morning.
I just discovered the magic that is Sanuk. Per Stephanie's (NEP) recommendation I got some sandals a few weeks ago and I LOVE them.

  6. LOL so hard at the 'old bitches in thin flip flops' isn't that seriously the truth? I need some cushion and support, f those $2 old navy plastic things. I'm definitely Team Sanuk (^^^ glad Audrey is too!)

  7. It's a beautiful day. The healing ocean oasis is opening today. Lola gleefully put her toes in this morning. Our favorite months of the year❣️💖 We are all healthy and loved. We are the luckiest ducks. I wish the same for all everywhere. Everyone deserves this . Everyone. Everything. Everywhere. Creatively visualizing that to fix all that is wrong. Especially your comments above. May the force be with all of us.
    Love. Your. Momma.

  8. Love everything. I have genetically inherent shit teeth also so I feel you on the dentist. I love my guy though. And wearing no support flip flops kills my back. And thanks for reminding me I can still be a good person while telling others to shut it. ❤️

  9. Ugh the dentist. I hate the dentist. Be sure to treat yourself to some ice cream or something afterwards for being a big girl. That's what I do! I love when I have points to use and something is nearly free. Score!

  10. Good luck at the dentist. I'm going back next week and I'm already dreading it. Thank God my dentist is so kind and patient. My last one was an ass which is why I stopped seeing him. What an ass he was, just thinking of him makes me ragey.

  11. I have been wearing Vionic Tide flip flops for several years; before that, if I wore flip flops at all I was in extreme pain from my hips to/including my feet.
I'm trying, TRYING to not stick my head in the sand about this country's shit show... very very difficult!

  12. Good luck at the dentist!

I never wear flip flops... I hate having something between my toes!

  13. I just put Into the Water on hold at the library. Can't wait to dive into it. The girls poop meme made me laugh out loud and I really needed that today. Everything you're hating, I'm hating too. And I just don't get it. Trumpcare or Zombiecare makes zero sense to me. How is this better? I don't disagree that Obamacare needs some fixing but this ain't fixing. It's making it much, much worse for many people. And how the hell is sexual assault a pre-existing condition? Yes, Mr. Insurance Provider, I knew on this date I would be raped and that is my fault and you should increase my cost or deny me coverage over it. I am so enraged. The dentist scares the living bejeebers out of me, so May the 4th be with you. :D

  14. I'd love to hear your thoughts on Into the Water! I've heard that it is MUCH better than The Girl on The Train, which I still enjoyed for what it was contrary to many opinions. May the Fourth Be With you too! ;)

  15. As always I'm so excited for SUYB day next week, even though I felt like this month was kind of blah for me reading wise. I also get super excited about my free book from Kindle at the beginning of the month! They usually have some great choices to pick from!

oh boo to cancelling vacation. but also yay, because seriously. vacation when super busy/stressed is awful. we cancelled a trip earlier this year for the same reason. can't enjoy myself when i'm stressing out about other shit.

  21. Everything on your "I'm hating" list: **shudders**

Also, that meme about being a good person while telling people to go fuck themselves is ME.

    ReplyDelete
  22. OMG! I'm going to be chuckling at the poop meme all day now! LOL!

Oh, girl... the eye twitching things. What in the world is going on with people and our society?

  23. I waited way too long and I'm number 22 for Into The Water at the library. Boo.

  24. Hope that the dentist went ok. I have some severe anxiety about it, so my journey has taken YEARS. I finally got in for that first bit of work and it went best case scenario. I'm not looking forward to going in for my root canal next week. It's unlikely that it will just need to be a crown again... sigh. I used the nitrous and it really helped me! Yay for books. I'm in a total reading rut right now. BOOO POLITICS. I am not happy about any of it. :( XO - Alexandra

  25. I definitely agree about telling people those things when necessary. One reason why "toxic" people don't change, I think, is because too many other people have allowed them to do what they do. What did you think about "The Force Awakens"?

  26. Hope your dentist appointment went okay. I had just finished reading your post and then heard on the radio a story about a dentist that tried to perform a extraction while riding a hover board. I thought about commenting right away on your post but decided to wait until after the appointment.
Where were you going to go on your vacation ? I remember you writing about it but I forgot. Sometimes you just have to say "NO" even if it is supposed to be fun.

  27. Jordan Edwards broke my heart even more than I can explain. The ONLY thing good to come of this is the perpetrator (yes, he is just that) got fired and charged with murder. The chief seemed genuinely upset and wanting to make things right. Unlike the past, when the boys (and gals) in blue rally around and protect each other. I support police. I think they have a job that is beyond difficult and one I'd never want to do. But. When police officers do wrong, they MUST be held accountable and that just hasn't happened in the past.

  28. Ugh. The dentist. I hate going, but I've gotten better about it since I found one that I can stand. My biggest annoyance is that they always talk to you while their hands are in your mouth... how the hell am I supposed to answer you?
