TWTW - Memorial Day

Friday I got an early dismissal and the world cried hallelujah. Or maybe only I did. Regardless, I got my car washed, went to Target, then went home and laid the hell down. My stomach was killing me last week. MFD left around 8:30 and that's the last time I saw him until Monday night. The dogs and I were sacked out early.
Saturday morning I kicked it into gear and did a shit load of laundry, picked up around the house, and ran some errands - bank, Ross to get new dog bowls, and Goodwill to drop donations. I painted my nails (Essie Click it or Ticket). Pedicure was done Friday at lunch (OPI Outback Aphrodisiac).
Saturday afternoon and evening I spent a glorious 8+ hours with some of my oldest and dearest friends and their kids hosted by Melissa & Jim. Their backyard is an awesome little oasis in which to catch up. Food was excellent (had to photograph my first grill dog of the season, naturally), company and setting were even better as it should be. We even saw a hot cul de sac bball game. I love these women and it's so nice to really enjoy their spouses and kids as well. Something you never think about when you meet someone when you're 13 (16 with Ange), yet here we are 25 years later still great friends and having a ball like we always have.
Saturday night I got home after 10, packed up the car, and attempted to go to sleep. I finally fell out at 1 a.m. which made my 5:30 wakeup call hurt so much more on Sunday. But I did get up and headed north with the pugs to Lori & Jack's lake house. It was my first time staying there and it was quiet, serene and awesome, a really great place to unwind and just be. I also had my first ever ride in a canoe - thanks Jack!
I even did most of this blog from there.

After a lovely morning and afternoon at the lake including a nice walk, coffee, reading, and sandwiches, I made the three hour trip home Monday. I got in at 5 and MFD threw together a quick and easy dinner.
It wouldn't be Memorial Day weekend if he didn't run out of propane in the middle of cooking. LOLOL
Weekly food prep: none, mofos. I made spinach dip to take to Melissa & Jim's and I made eggs over asparagus Saturday morning. That's it. Breakfasts are breakfast burritos from the freezer and watermelon, lunch is PB&J on multigrain bread with steamed broccoli on the side. Dinners will be leftover hotdogs, grilled chicken and salmon and steamed veg. Busy weekends are why I like having things ready to go in the freezer/pantry.

So, summer has unofficially begun. Let the sweating commence.

How was your long weekend? Give me your three highlights!

  1. First... early release from work used to the moments I LIVED FOR... so I join your hallelujah chorus! Second - I clearly worked too much because all I could think was "in what universe is Outback (the restaurant) an aphrodisiac?" Third - that watermelon and that hot dog look SO tasty. I'm a fan of your weekend.

  11. Nice! Your friends house on the lake is beautiful. My highlights were- 1. Being in Cape Cod with my family. 2. I actually exercised while away, which is something I never usually do. It gave me a chance to hang out with my older brother and my brother in law. 3. Spending a night at Foxwoods in a room with an awesome view! My family thinks it's weird that we bring our kid to a casino but there are so many other things to do besides gamble. So it was a busy Memorial Day weekend that feels like it went by in a flash.

  15. Love the sign they made to welcome you, the canoe ride, and the pic of you laughing with a pug in your lap- so much happy! Looks like a very relaxing weekend. I went to an indoor bazaar, ate and drank my weight at a local parade, and then lazed around all day yesterday watching Netflix and doing laundry.

  18. The lakehouse looks gorgeous and relaxing. That's great you got to bring the dogs. I was so worried we would run out of propane grilling dinner yesterday...lol funny it happened to you guys!

  19. I love that they welcomed you and the dogs. Made me smile. I also love the picture on the pier.

Our weekend was weird. After a very relaxing overnight trip to the in-laws which gives us all the food and free babysitting, we went to a party at a neighbor's house. Very much the opposite of the in-laws'. The child had fun, though, and they only live 2 houses away so I could escape when necessary. #bonus

What the hell is it with men and propane?

  21. Looks like a great weekend! I love Ross or Marshalls for dog ish! I ate plenty o' grilled meats this weekend (as is tradition this tI'm of year) 😊

  22. Hey at le3ast you can laugh about it (running out of propane mid-way through cooking). Christ, we've done that numerous times BBQ'ing at my mom's house.

Looks like you (and the pugs) had a great time at the lake house. Looks niiiiiiice and quiet there. Totally my cup of tea.

  23. Awe look at the doggies at the lake! Do any of them want to go swimming? I am guessing no since they are no fan of the bath. Like my dogs! TJ Maxx/Ross have the best dog supplies! I have gotten so many great beds, toys, bowls, etc from there! Do you crate your dogs in the car? Three is a lot on your own if they are wondering around. My dogs both want to sit in my lap...so Gracie usually gets crated and Mac gets to ride shot gun because he is appropriate lap size. Gracie, as much as she likes to pretend to be...is not! Now if you excuse me, I am going to go dream about hot dogs. Mmmmm.

  24. Friday and Saturday morning - kids sleepover, Saturday night- outside cocktails and apps around our friends' pool.
Sunday- Sean's game and Monday- chicken visits around the pool- awesome split chicken breasts on the smoker with fresh fruits and cole slaw- no starchy side dishes needed. Glorious weather. Just glorious. Glad you and your pups enjoyed the lake house with Lori and Jack and their pups.
My favorite time of the year is here!
    Love, Your Momma

  25. 3 highlights:
1 - multiple trips to/from Newark in remarkably ok traffic. Saw the Joh Nash accident.
2 - 3 days with my rambunctious, effervescent, hooligan of a granddog.
3 - first Lee's Kosher hoagie in more than 6 years.

  28. Looks like such a fabulous weekend! I love grilling out in the summer and that is one of the things that sucks about living in an apartment in the city. I need a patio!! :) Your dogs crack me up! They pose just right in photos looking like they just don't care! Lol
