The Armchair Librarians: Hit us with your best shot

Jana and I are going to record an interactive episode next week that includes questions from you about books, reading, or anything else you've heard us talk about when we go off the rails. If you have a question or topic you'd like us to spend a few minutes on, please leave it in the comments below.

Yesterday's episode was us talking about movie adaptations of books. Next week we'll be discussing Side Effects May Vary and a little of Dumplin' by Julie Murphy.

Interspersed between general topics, we will have episodes that focus on particular books. If you like to read along, in a few weeks we'll be discussing How to Start a Fire by Lisa Lutz and sometime this summer we'll be discussing The Nest by Cynthia D'Aprix Sweeney and Notorious RBG: The Life and Times of Ruth Bader Ginsburg

I love when you guys accidentally talk over each other, repeat one another, and do it again and again. Just made me laugh! If I think of any questions, I'll make a note and shoot you guys an email :).

  8. Starting Side Effects May Vary this weekend, and I'll put Notorious RBG on my list for sure because she's the best.

Question for the interactive portion: This is more of a question for Jana currently but for you too Steph as your niece gets older...how do we encourage the kiddos to read? I don't have kids so I know I'm coming from an ignorant place, but I just see so many little ones on the ipad and the phone and I just worry about how we/I can motivate and encourage reading and, I guess more generally, creativity?

  11. Question for podcast: do you have a revolving budget for books or do you try to stay with free options? Or combination of both?

  12. I know you both use the library often, but what is your system for what books you keep and which you get rid of? I get rid of any books I wouldn't want to read again or immediately have a talking piece for sharing with others (I have a special shelf for favorites). And I donate everything that wasn't a favorite for me.

  15. I just remembered another movie that is (supposedly) better than the book - Brooklyn. I saw the movie because it was Oscar-nominated and thought it was lovely. A friend read the book first and said she liked the movie a lot better.
