Thursday Thoughts before Easter

1. I like to think about the people we cross paths with in life, especially when they are so different from us. I liked this passage from Before the Fall by Noah Hawley, which is what I'm reading right now. The next Show Us Your Books is April 12.
2. I am remiss in announcing that I did pull a winner from my birthday giveaway. Christine C from Philly won, and I donated $25 to the charity of her choice this week. She chose The City of Elderly Love Rescue, an organization helping elderly pets here in Philly. Huge thumbs up to that pick Christine! I am assembling her box of fun things and will mail that out next week. I'll show you guys what was in it after she gets it. Thanks to all who entered!

3. Tuesday was library day. I have a shit ton of books to get through from Netgalley...did that stop me from plucking two off the shelves based on the covers alone? No. It did not. I try to always use my dorky tote bag on library day.
4. I preach a lot about self care but my follow up regarding monthly massages sucks. So Tuesday night when I got my massage, I made appointments for three months out. Boom.

5. Terrorism. As an individual, it's hard to fathom what I can do to combat it. Then I think, be mindful. Be mindful of what I'm putting out in the world. Be mindful of my words, my thoughts, my energy. Look for the light. Don't dwell in the dark next to the fear and the rage and the cowardice and all the lesser emotions that can combine and give small groups of maniacs a foothold and a gathering place. I'm not praying for Brussels today - I'm praying for the whole damn world. Thanks to my friend Brie of A Breezy Life for sharing this on her instagram:

6.  Our shore renters for this weekend cancelled Monday due to a hip break. Not mad about it since we're still having issues with our gas wall heater despite getting it looked at twice. Given that we're not getting the electric wall heater/AC installed until April, my overactive worry drive can take the weekend off. I'm going down there this weekend with the intention of only organizing the efficiency with owner's stuff for the season and not doing anything else except trying to act like a part-time resident.

7. Yesterday was bananas. I was solving a major technical work problem in the Target parking lot at 9 p.m. AFTER saving $32.76 in Target like a fucking boss. I also got rid of the couches in the basement, successfully giving them to someone, so Operation Reconfigure Basement can fully commence Sunday night. My soul feels lighter already. I had someone claim them and then continue to never pick them up for two weeks...I didn't think it would be that hard to get rid of free furniture. But they ended up going to a home that is happy to have them so all's well that ends well.

8. I rickrolled Laura the other week. It makes me laugh. So does this t-shirt.

9. Did you guys read Jill's blog on LUSH products? Don't forget to enter to win $25 to LUSH by following her on instagram (@kicksandlipsticks), uploading a pic of your favorite LUSH product or one you want to try (grab a shot from the website here), and use the hashtag #lushtastic.

10. E-card of the week...

  1. Awwww a charity specifically for elderly pets - what a great choice by Christine. I picked up 3 books from the library this morning (one being Arcadia that I remembered I wanted to read after you talked about it on the podcast). I have 2 more at home. Oops. Not to mention the shitloads of books that I have on my shelves waiting to be read. I can't work netgalley into the mix. Too many would be neglected.

  3. I love library day(s)! I can't help but pluck one or two off the shelf even though my nightstand is overflowing and so is my Kobo. haha. We have had that same experience getting rid of free things in the past, I'm sure it's a huge weight to be moving forward though!! Happy Easter weekend :)

  4. I love your sentiment on terrorism. I'm praying for the whole world. Yes. We need more hope, love and light. I'm glad you guys have a little more time to get the shore house ready to go without the stress surrounding it. Go you on booking the massages. I need to do that, too, so I don't miss out on my monthly massages. I have like 10 built up just waiting to be used.

  6. I really enjoy meeting and getting to know people that are completely different than me. It's nice to sit with people and get to know them and hear their thoughts and ideas on things that maybe you weren't aware of or didn't think of and maybe to help you gain a new perspective.
I really liked what you had to say about terrorism. It's so true. The whole world needs prayers with everything going on.
I really want that shirt! It cracks me up every time I see it.

  7. elderly pets charity!! What a good pick!
So excited for you for getting the couches out, I know you're happy. Let the project begin!

  8. OMG, elderly pets charity? I'd cry all the time. I love this cause though! Your thoughts on how to "combat" terrorism is spot on...maybe we can't do anything, but then again we can.

  9. I love the Rick-rolling STILL exists in the world :)

I'm so jealous - I need to schedule a massage. I may do it for after some of my races.

    So laughed at that e-card.

  10. i love that quote, that just hits the spot. Adding that book to my reading list. I've never heard of elderly pets charity- looking into that right now!

  11. If you're ever short a shore renter, you let me know. I'll happily hand over my money!

  12. That atlas quote is perfect!!! Kathy sent me that Rick Astley shirt earlier in the week and I laughed and laughed. Still laughing. Hope you have a good weekend at the shore!

  13. The Shire quote is so beautiful and spot on. I agree the best thing we can do is be a beacon of light and not spread more hate or fear. Basically, not act like a politician. Now I've got Rick Astley stuck in my head again. ;)

  14. Reconfiguring OUR basement is giving me such a sense of peace too. It's the little things. And giving furniture to someone who needs/wants it is a nice bonus.
And yes to scheduling appointments in advance. I should start doing that with pedicures. I'm just always afraid something will pop up and canceling will be more work than necessary.

  15. Looooooooove that map quote! So beautiful.

  16. Ha! I should send that ecard out to our friends cause we're hosting Easter dinner for anyone that doesn't have family in town to celebrate with like us. The whole of event #7 had me cracking because of your descriptions not that you had a crazy work day or people were clackers picking up free stuff.

  17. THAT SHIRT!! And the quote, love it too.
Good for you taking care of yourself, saving money, and solving problems like a boss. :)
    Wishing you a happy weekend!
    XOXO

  18. I love, love her charity pick!

I had to look up what "rickroll" means. Because #old.

  19. I always have to make my next appointment before I leave, otherwise I won't actually go back in! It's insane how things always get too hectic or the appointments just fill up! It's so hard to say no to books! I really need to stop perusing NetGalley because I have a feeling that I'm going to get too many books on my list and then they're going to get mad at me!

  20. Good for you, scheduling those massages ahead of time. I do that with doctors, dentists, etc... might as well do it for something that's good for the body and mind!! ;)

  21. that atlas/IG pic gutted me. we live in a scary, awful world right now. it makes me sick.

i need a massage SO badly; this week has aged me and defeated me in every way possible.

  22. That IG pic on terrorism... it fits the current situation. It's terrifying.

  23. Maybe it's my hormones but that terrorism quote on where does it hurt.....I bawled my eyes out for like ten minutes.

  24. Just reading this at 9:23 3-24! A busy and nice Holy Thursday for me! Amen on putting good stuff out into the universe. Light and angel and send love all over the place and have no fear. Love the Rick Astley shirt. He should run ! Enjoy the beauty of the beach.
    Love. Your. Momma.

  25. Ok, I'm clearly behind the times but how does one rickroll someone? I know it's a thing but I need to know how it works.

But really that instagram post is exactly how I think everyone is feeling right now.

  26. Apparently I'm just sap this morning because your book quote and the writing about the world had me emotional . . . then you brought it back for me when I giggled out loud at the e-card. Have a blessed and amazing and relaxing weekend as an "part-time shore resident!"

  27. I put all my books on hold at the library ahead of time so that I A) don't check out too many and B) don't spend an hour in the library roaming around like i've been known to do. except once in a while i still walk by the "new books" shelf (like last week) and add 3 other books to my haul. i have no control when it comes to books.

    ReplyDelete
  28. I haven't gotten a massage in like a year, I think I should schedule one soon. That terrorism quote is heartbreaking and so true. I had to stop reading the news because it is all just too sad.

    ReplyDelete
  29. bahahahaha that ecard is the best.
i hope your library books you picked up based on the covers work out! i know we're not supposed to judge a book by their cover blah blah blah but i love the feeling of going into a book feeling so so about it and then loving it, you know? anyway.
love your paragraph about terrorism, and that atlas quote.
    yay for massages!
rick rolled - is that .. something to do with that video? the song? KC explained it to me once and I was very confused.
