Birthday Month Commences

Happy March!

1. More daylight is coming.
2. The 40/40 is coming.
3. My birthday is coming.
4. Shore house opening is coming.
5. Spring is coming.

My gift to you is this photo of a Burger King birthday party of days gone by. I'm maybe five? Six? Mom? Jen is next to me in the left of the frame. Yes, kids, gather round for a story about the olden days when there were no grand pinterest perfect gorgeous extravaganza birthday affairs. There was your party at your house or Burger King up the street with paper crowns, non-helium balloons, kid meals, and you were happy about it then you went home. The End.

I’m considering today’s morning snow winter’s parting precipitous gift. Thanks, it’s been a nice season of introspection and hunkering down and hygge but I’m ready to be outside in the world again, bye!

Public service announcement: women’s history month is every month, just like black history month is every month. Act accordingly.

Have a fabulous weekend!

Thursday Thoughts - imagine all the people, living life in peace

1. I've officially started counting down until my birthday (28 days) and monitoring nightly shore temps to see when we can open the house again. Please enjoy these Ides of March cupcakes I found on Pinterest.

2. I also submitted the paperwork to adopt our beach at the shore! I am so fucking excited about this, you'd think it was about winning the lottery instead of picking up trash. I put both of our names on the sign even though I didn't tell MFD about it until after I submitted it and he will likely never participate in the clean ups. He's running a campaign, he's got other shit to worry about (click here to donate).

3. Typically how I fill in Thursday Thoughts is I set up the list and will update with a tidbit that I will go back in and expand on on Wednesday night. This Wednesday, this is what that looked like at 6 pm.

4. Part of that is due to my feeling that it was just Sunday and I was sharing weekend things and now it's Thursday and I have nothing to show for the week because I have spent most nights in a Goldberg haze and I'm following the real Beverly Goldberg on Twitter and looking up what the family is doing now and this is why I don't binge watch things often. I lose time on completely inconsequential shit.

5. I have wanted to do this for years. I finally did it and fucked up all the WiFi things in the house but I don't care because my main internet is called Kellerman's and my 5G is called Johnny Castle. I changed it at the shore too, it's Thunder Road down there. I've needed the small triumphs this week.

6. The 40/40 started yesterday. I almost forgot all about it. 40 minutes of exercise for 40 days during Lent. Sundays or day of your choice off if you want. Doesn't matter what it is and it doesn't all have to be together. I started yesterday by walking at lunch and running errands while I did that.

7. I haven't had nail polish on my toes since October? I had major discoloration every time I took nail polish off so I just left it off. I think I'm ready to get back into it.

8. Every week I think I cannot possibly hate this republican administration more. Every week I am wrong. For your attention/consideration this week: Even if you think you know what immigrants can and can't do, and how they can become citizens, please read this (it will take you to a public FB status; this op/ed from two known nonpartisan writers at The Atlantic that contains the frank statement that a certain form of partisanship is now a moral necessity as the Republican party as an institution has become a danger to the rule of law and the integrity of our democracy; Sessions, the top lawyer in the land and also a racist fuck who has shown his racism many times, spoke of the "anglo-American heritage of law enforcement" because he's (one more time) a racist fuck who owns stock in private prisons and has contributed handily to the mass incarceration of brown people and I can't fucking believe he's still in that position and everyone is okay with it; this fire column from Rob Porter's ex wife who he abused - once again for the fucking world, this president is an abuser and knowingly hires abusers and they are all very fucking anti-woman, even the women. Also, for those of you with your heads still up your asses simpering things like why don't women come forward why don't women report things why don't women leave first, let me invite you to shut the fuck up and second, they don't come forward because when they do there are many people like the president and chief of staff/former military man John Kelly knew and didn't care...and despite overwhelming evidence from THREE WOMEN, the president still tweeted about how they were allegations that were going to destroy HIM. The man. The beater. I truly cannot explain my fucking rage over this.

9. Reminder: Thoughts and prayers aren't doing a damn thing for the kids gunned down in Florida yesterday. Year after year, shooting after shooting, America sits here and says it's people, not guns; it's mental illness; what about the criminals with guns?!; all it takes is a good guy with a gun and other tired bullshit as they stroke their shiny guns and worship at the altar of the gun while our children lay dead in school hallways. Meanwhile this does not happen in our  peer countries. Those countries also have people, mental illness, criminals with guns, and guns. They have much stricter laws and don't fetishize guns like we do here. It is disgusting and disgraceful and because the NRA owns so many congress people it is also a political issue. We care more about our guns than the children of this nation. What are we fucking doing here? Does it have to happen to you and your family personally before you are moved to drop the tired replies, speak up about the NRA's hold on our government, and demand change? Check out Moms Demand Action and Everytown. Get involved. It starts with us.

TWTW - the one with the Easter Bunny

Friday my office closed at 12:30. It was a joyous occasion. I celebrated by going to the hell that is Produce Junction on Good Friday and the gym. I made a quick dinner of baked salmon and salad, then hit Target. I couldn't resist the Buddha of course, but the reason I went was for this Bose wireless speaker. It's awesome.
Saturday Gus got me up at an unacceptable hour. I pissed the morning away shopping online and obsessively building my Spotify library. I just started using it Saturday and love it. The dogs also got gifts from Chewy.com - more to come on that.
Saturday afternoon I went to Fritz's Bakery and the fake Dollar Store (Family Dollar) before having Easter lunch with my grandparents and parents.
I didn't feel like cooking so we went to Sakura for hibachi after I subjected everyone to a family photo.
Saturday night we both did some work and I made some food for Easter. This photo of the dogs has nothing to do with either.
Sunday morning we slept in and ate a shit ton of sugar.
MFD went off to Mass and I laid my clothes out for the week and cleaned my makeup brushes.
I did no food prep this weekend aside from power breakfast muffins to freeze. If I'm hosting dinner and my fridge is full for that, I will typically use something from the freezer or do food prep on Monday night. This week's breakfasts are breakfast burritos from the freezer. Lunch is provided for me Monday and tonight I'll make my lunches for the rest of the week - baked chicken, roasted sweet potatoes, and steamed broccoli. Dinner is Easter leftovers and zucchini noodles with ground turkey and red sauce.
We took a long family walk and enjoyed the beautiful Easter weather.
Sunday afternoon Stephen, Aubrey, and Debbie joined us for dinner. On the menu: ham, double cheese scalloped potatoes (recipe coming soon), mashed sweet potatoes, steamed green beans, corn, steamed asparagus, deviled eggs, pickles, rolls.  Dessert was a trifle made by my Mom, cheesecake, and brownies from Fritz's. After dinner and dessert, MFD was the first to fall prey to the food coma. Stephen was close behind. The women remained at the table chit chatting. We made Peters wear her cataract glasses in our ladies shot. It was a good day! Lots of stuff coming up to be excited about.
Other weekend things:
-I finished my 40/40! I worked out for 40 minutes a day 45 out of 46 days. I feel good, I'm down about a size and a half, and I'm happy so I'm going to continue five days a week.
-Eva the Diva turned one on Sunday! I can't believe it's been a year since she exploded on the scene. I can't wait to celebrate her on Saturday at her Wonder Woman party!

Work has been really busy and I slowed my shit right down this weekend. It felt good.

What about you?

ATTENTION SHOW US YOUR BOOKS PEOPLE! I made a mistake a few weeks ago and announced tomorrow, April 7, as the link up day. The link up is actually Tuesday, April 14. It's always the second Tuesday of the month. Sorry! I hope to see a lot of you linking up next Tuesday.

TWTW - the one about nothing

Let me preface this post by saying I did basically nothing this weekend and it was glorious. We've been on the go a little and it was nice to not leave the house at all from Friday until Monday morning.

I celebrated National Love Your Pet Day Friday - sorry for the double share on Instagram and here.
I kept up with my 40/40 - zumba on Friday night, walking/weights/stretchy band Saturday, and active rest on Sunday - slow walking, abs, and stretching.
I kept up with my use a new nail polish every time thing - I've been going bright so it was nice to go neutral with OPI Bubble Bath.
I read a shit ton of magazines and watched a Parks & Rec Treat Yoself marathon all weekend.
I stayed in Saturday with my people.
I cooked. Salad, steamed brussels sprouts, and blackened salmon for dinner Friday night. No bake energy bites for the week. Filling for breakfast burritos to freeze and quinoa and ground turkey to use for stuffed peppers. Turkey meatloaf, garlic mashed cauliflower, and roasted asparagus for Saturday dinner. Egg muffins with sausage, mushrooms, and spinach for the week. Healthy bananas foster in the crockpot with homemade greek vanilla frozen yogurt. Not pictured - ham taken out of the freezer and mashed sweet potatoes. Lunches are leftovers from dinners.
I hausfraued in the general upkeep style. I did laundry and put it away the same day - that never happens. I also wiped down baths, cleaned the kitchen, etc. Same shit I do every day.

I watched the Oscars. I was going to do a post on it but then I just felt like vegging out in a blob-like fashion instead of hunting down images of Oscar fashion so that's what I did. I was jazzed to see Reese Witherspoon share the #ASKHERMORE hashtag on Instagram & Twitter to get interviewers to ask women on the red carpet more about their work and less about their dresses. I adore that. YOU GO REESE.
I also loved speeches from Patricia Arquette, Graham Moore, Common/JohnLegend, and Eddie Redmayne and performances by Lady Gaga, Common, and John Legend. The fashion was meh.

Marching towards spring. Inch by inch. Even though I almost busted my ass this morning on black ice on the way into work.
