Currently - April

Taking...A lot of walks at lunch (see photo above and typically eleventy billion photos on Instagram). 'Tis the season - it's finally pretty warm, no coats are needed, and the bastard humidity hasn't hit yet. Last week I walked over to the library to pick up books only to find out it was closed. If it would've been 30 degrees and overcast, I would've been pissed. Since it was 70 and sunny, I was just happy to be out walking.

Freaking out...because I did something totally out of character this week. We saw a Living Social deal to South Africa on Tuesday and booked it on Wednesday for travel in January. A few days in Cape Town and then a few days a game reserve in Limpopo Province to see the big animals. I am the person who researches to death and plots vacations three years out. This wasn't even on the radar. The deal was good and MFD has been talking about going to Africa for 20 years. He said just do it, and I had heart palpitations all day yesterday, I'm not even kidding, but I just did it. Spontaneous feels like a straight jacket to me. It's much more suitable on my husband. When the price is right and the stars align, sometimes you have to YOLO.

Drinking...one zillion iced coffees a day. Okay two, at least, in my DD refillable cup. And even if I get three? It's like three cents more than one large iced. Ridiculous. My DD people are like family. We see each other twice a day.

Wishing...Yard Crashers would come crash my yard. Should I spend a lot of time hanging out in home improvement stores to increase my chances of this happening?

Keeping a list...of all the pricey leather things I want. I already sent MFD a text telling him to bring extra cash to London next year for the little case of gorgeous on the bottom left. Even though I really want it now. I'm Veruca Salt.

Wearing...Too many clothes. Exercising a lot is great, right? And great for increasing your laundry.

Hating...that my work shoes are starting to stink. It's sweaty, smelly feet season. "Hurrah," said no one ever.

Reading...Books and ignoring magazines. My magazine stack is towering.

Not regretting...Cutting cable. This Sunday marks 30 days since we ditched Comcast and I haven't missed it once.

Watching...Bloodline. What a weird and intriguing show. I like the cast a lot. Welcome back, Coach Taylor. I've missed you on TV.

Loving...that my Sam's Club card is now on my phone. Yay technology.

Appreciating...an impromptu visit from Lori this past weekend.

Trying...something new in the Men Can't Ever Find Anything game. Last weekend, whenever MFD asked me where something was, I simply didn't answer him. And what do you know? He looked where it's stored and he found it.

Counting down...0 days until my haircut and color thank you tiny baby wash that gray right outta my hair Jesus. I've had grays since before I turned 22. Last week, just over a month into turning 38, I discovered my first gray hair at my temples. That was a blow, I won't lie. Anyway, the fabulous Kristi at Sensational Scissors will fix this tonight. Three days until the March of Dimes March for Babies with Team Eva the Diva. Click here if you'd like to donate.

Laughing at...Blame my Veruca Salt reference above. I feel a Willy Wonka blog post coming on.

Now you - lay some of your currently items on me.

  1. I'm totally laughing at myself. At first, I couldn't figure out DD. I thought "hmmmm, maybe DD means extra big, like DD boobs." So, she's having two extra big iced coffees.

  2. YAY FOR SPRING... finally! Are you reading my mind? I was literally laying awake the other night wondering why no one thought the entirety of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory wasn't both creepy and or weird... then I lamented that it is a sign of the times that I considered it both creepy and weird.

  3. Love the new banner! Yay for Spring! I have been collecting ebooks to bring on vacation (and a few paperbacks as well) but haven't read any of them, saving them. It's hard, because they look fabulous! Self restraint is difficult. The only one I read and LOVED is YOU are a BADASS...fabulous! I just started up with my iced coffees too. I like Starbucks because I can make it myself. It's the little things. ;-) Happy Thursday!

  5. Today is not Spring-like! At least the sun is beaming! Love the pictures of your walk. I have been making my own
iced coffee! I keep reading my phone- it's a little computer! I will have to get the Sam's club app on my phone! Looking forward to The Blacklist tonight. Have a happy Thursday!!!

  6. I was just thinking I need to brew some coffee tonight so I can have iced coffee the rest of the week. Love it. I wish yard crashers would come to my place too. My yard is not green at all, it is all dead and I stink at yard work. I can mow and rake the crap out of it but actually growing grass is my nemesis. I watched 1 episode of Bloodline and i like it but I need to finish The Blacklist first.

  9. That refillable DD cup is the best thing ever! I love that ish. The new spring pictures at the header look great, love the one of the strawberries! Every time Steve and I go to Lowes/Home Depot, I'm always running around looking for the crashers!

  10. I'm so excited for you for your Africa trip! That sounds amazing! I really love that LL Bean tote!

  11. Yay for warm weather and nice walks! I've been eating outside at lunch under the sun. Very nice dose of vitamin D! Also yay for more iced coffees! I'm currently loving frothing milk for lattes. It's my new obsession to "perfect", haha.

  14. Are you kidding me with the South Africa trip? That is my DREAM vacation! (In fact, I have a blog post coming out next week about it. Haha!) I've never used a groupon or living social deal for vacation and never really even thought to look. I can't wait to hear how it goes! I have so many grey hairs on my hairline all around my face, temples included. I haven't dyed my hair since last summer and hate keeping it up and paying for it, but it's time. I'm glad you kept up with Bloodline. It's slow, but kept my interest for sure.

  15. I'm watching bloodline for the sole reason that I have missed Coach Taylor.

  16. That's AWESOME that you're going to Africa!! And especially if you found a great deal package :)
Try putting some tea bags in those stinky shoes!

  17. Oh man, do you remember the band Veruca Salt??? I loved that Volcano Girls song. It was awesome. That Pippa Classic Grab Light Tan bag is absolutely gorgeous!!! And look at you being all spontaneous and shit! I am with you, unless it is a day trip...being spontaneous isn't really my thing. So awesome that you just pulled the trigger! And don't get me started on stinky work shoes. It happens to all of us and those who don't claim so need a fire extinguisher because their pants are on FIRE!

  18. wait wait - AFRICA! that's totally incredible!!
i have been taking walks at lunch and loving it. such a good way to get moving in the midpoint of the day.

  19. SO EXCITING about South Africa. Sometimes you have to do like you said and just go for it! That's awesome!!! I'm seriously excited for you.

And I just copied/pasted your men finding things comment to my husband bc that is hilarious. And it drives me NUTS how whenever I am looking for something, it's all on me. But whenever he can't find anything, it's both of our problems. So, so funny.

and oo I want to be back in Philly, it's such a pretty city!

  20. ugh smelly shoes season. hate it!
spontaneous absolutely feels like a strait jacket to me too. i just can't! but AFRICA! how exciting!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  21. Oh thank God, I am not the only one with the smelly shoe syndrome! I think I'd be a little anxious about the Africa trip and going outside my comfort zone, with spontaneity, but it should be an amazing trip!

    ReplyDelete
  22. Oh my gosh, South Africa will be SO FUN! I don't think you'll regret your spontaneity.

Also, exciting news, I've been authorized to get rid of the cable when the NBA Finals are over in June. SO very excited to ditch that expense. (Though, we're going to get Sling & HBO Now, so there will still be some expense, just not $100+ per month. Highway freaking robbery!)

  23. Sounds like an awesome weekend! I love long walks and am obsessed with iced coffee right now!

  24. That Africa trip sounds amazing! I've always wanted to go on a safari type excursion to see giraffes and lions. So cool :)
I've been taking regular walks at lunch now that the weather is nicer. Even though I woke up to snow this morning!

  25. I am so jealous of your Africa trip that one is on my bucket list! I would be having palpitations too though, I hate spur of the moment purchases especially for trips. I bet it will be so worth it though.

And Yard Crashers PLEASE!? My yard needs serious help and all the Home Depot commercials with the seas of flowers and perfect flower boxes makes me want to cry, because not only could I afford it but I also don't want to do the leg work.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Cape town is a big one!! That's awesome but i understand your heart palpitations. At least you have plenty of time to plan out the details.

    ReplyDelete
  27. I am so with you on shitting my pants by being that spontaneous with a trip. Spontaneity is good if its like a "hey, let's go get a drink right now" not "hey, let's go to another continent!" Good for you for just saying eff it and doing it!

I also wonder about the Living Social/Groupon trips. They seem like such good deals I would be afraid that it is too good to be true.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Loving the Willy Wonka references and JEALOUS of your South Africa trip! You can't pass up an amazing deal to an exotic place on your list, so it sounds like a great decision! Can't wait to see pics of your trip in January :)

    ReplyDelete
  29. South Africa - That is AWESOME. On a regular basis I don't answer my husband when he is looking for something that is completely obvious. He gets kinda mad but c'mon dude - ITS RIGHT THERE IN FRONT OF YOUR FACE!

    ReplyDelete
  30. YOLO indeed! What a great trip!
I started watching Bloodline (amazing cast!) but never finished. I really love Linda Cardellini. I should put that on the list for the weekend...

  31. Book spontaneous vacations gives me heart palpitations for you.

I'm so glad nice weather is back, I love having my windows open while I work.

    ReplyDelete
  32. I get it. I drink a lot of Diet Cokes. I love them so much.

  33. Jesus Christ I can't believe you remember who Veruca Salt is. Holy shit does that date us. Hahaa

I am constantly holding my eyes open like an idiot to Jeff imitating him to open his own god damn eyes and look for shit. Almost 99% of the time it's right in front of his face, I only he'd open his eyes once in a blue moon. LoL

    ReplyDelete
  34. AHH! Your spur of the moment trip booking sounds amazing! I definitely don't think that's something you'll regret! Especially since it's somewhere you've wanted to go for so long. Plus, you now have until January to plan it out. I really want to watch Bloodline, but I can't decide if it's just because of Coach Taylor.

  35. I don't think I've ever been so excited for someone else's vacation before, hahahaha! #ifyourefromafricawhyareyouwhite
Dude. Smelly feet all the live long day. I actually was googling Odor Eaters the other day. *hides face*

  36. SOUTH AFRICA?????? That's incredible. Spontaneous travel is sometimes very necessary, but that is just the coolest. I'm begging you to do multiple vacation recaps on that trip (I know you don't love doing more than one, but I need to see one million photos.)

  37. Mr. Scrooge struggles to find ALL THE THINGS and I often remind him that it's because he REFUSES to put things in the same place every time aka WHERE THEY BELONG. I'm going to try the silence method. He also does this redundant question thing where he asks me questions that I've already answered. I've started just saying, I already answered that and walking away. Bitch please, do not waste my time.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Wow, for a spontaneous breaking of the mould you went big! South Africa sounds incredible! Plenty of time between now and then for some extra planning to make up for it....Those bags are pretty amazing. When are you coming to London?

    ReplyDelete
  39. Ahhh, Eric Taylor... he'll always be Coach Taylor to me no matter what new show he's on! (Catching up on blog posts if you can't tell :))
