TWTW - spring things

Friday night I was a whirling hausfrau. Nothing in my path was safe. Laundry, dishes, purging, putting out fans, setting out hats and sunblock by the back door...I did it all. Then I painted my nails (karmish sutra by Sally H from The Sisters Wexler).
I also made 25 turkey burgers with goat cheese and spinach in a cast iron skillet. Do you know how long that takes? A long time. Do you know how smoky your house gets? Pretty smoky. Thankfully MFD was out for the night so I didn't have to hear complaints. While doing that, I did some weights, made egg muffins, breakfast muffins to freeze, and cucumber salsa.
Saturday I hosted Ladies who Lunch at my house. On the menu: cucumber salsa, turkey burgers topped with shredded lettuce and tomato, pasta salad with pesto/mozzarella/tomatoes, salad from Jenn, fruit from Melissa, wine from Debbie, and cookies from my mom and Sam's Club. Lori was also there but missed the photo op! We chit chatted the afternoon away and it was lovely.
Melissa brought me these awesome Buddhas for my birthday...it continues! I know, you're like STFU about your birthday already. Sorry, I can't. I love them and can't stop staring at the little Buddha statue.
Saturday evening we jackassed around outside and with the dogs.
Saturday night Lori held down the fort with the dogs while MFD and I went to see Mark's bands Gringo Motel and Mercury Radio Theater at Bourbon & Branch in Northern Liberties. We have many talented musician friends but Mark is the one who plays in the most bands by far. We were lucky to see two of the bands on one stage on Saturday night for The Bourbon Experiments. It was a fun night. It's been a while since I've been down in Northern Liberties. It's crazy how much that area has changed.
Sunday I was out and about with my fairy godmother Lori all day and we had a great time as always. We hit HomeGoods, TJ Maxx, Target, and Red Robin for lunch.
It would be nice for you if you read a blogger who staged photos nice nice against whiteboards but alas, today I am not that blogger. My haul included my favorite face wipes, a mug (duh), e.l.f. mascara, a journal with one of my favorite quotes on the front, leopard cupcake liners, a super true print, Nordic wear cupcake pans, quinoa, a faded print dress like I wore in the 90s, and a pajama tank and capris. I didn't get anything Lilly Pullitzer at Target. On purpose.
Weekly food prep: egg/cheese/ham muffins and grape tomatoes for breakfasts; turkey burgers on sandwich thins, cucumbers, and snap peas for lunches; carrots, grapes, and bananas for snacks; dinners - pasta with broccoli, shrimp, garlic, and EVOO; roasted potatoes, onions, and pork tenderloin with steamed veggies; and salmon, rice, veggies.

Sunday I was in pajamas by 4 and did nothing else productive all day. I was in bed by 5:15 screwing around online and reading. Then I didn't go to bed until midnight. Fool.

Other weekend things:
- Super deluxe weather Saturday. Spring!
- MFD's cousin and my good friend Gail celebrated another year of fabulousness on Sunday. Happy happy!

Another great and busy weekend. I was very pleased to see my girls, to finally see a few of Mark's bands, and for Lori's impromptu trip down.

However, my early to bed laziness last night, no exercise on Saturday or Sunday and the everything I ate this weekend makes me happy to get back to a routine today. My house and fat ass are glad too.

What were your top three things about the weekend?

Good luck Boston Marathoners & supporters today!

  1. I'm impressed you made 25 turkey burgers because I know how much work a few can be! Way to go. HomeGoods is SO dangerous. I literally have to avoid that store if I know I can't spend money. Especially the mug and frame sections. I'm always tempted to buy something that I probably don't actually need.

  2. Who is this Lilly Pullitzer person I keep hearing about?! And what's all the fuss for? Anyway, I love the nail polish colour and I think I'd adore HomeGoods. I already adore TJ Maxx, although here it's called TK Maxx. Anyway, glad you had a good 'un, my best weekend things were having my old schoolfriends to stay and catching up all together, seeing a lot of my family at a big lunch on Sunday, and seeing our town mayor (plus chains and everything) at a mortgage/housebuying appointment. Long story.

  3. The ladies who lunch is such a cute idea. I love it! Awesome shopping trip and those mugs! Swoon. Sounds like a glorious weekend especially since it didn't involve LP from Target. ;)

  6. dear blogger - you are stupid for not letting me edit my comment. had to delete to fix a few typos:

so i just googled lilly pulzer since target up and left our asses and here's what i discovered:

    1) way too fucking expensive. 168 for a sundress? no thanks, i'll stick to my $15 old navy
    2) it's all flowery and shit. no thanks, i don't want to look like a walking dish rag which i'm sure i'll look like...although i can see how others can totally rock it. an asian wearing flowery shit will probably look weird; like some sort of live anime character or video game. that's probably on the racist/offensive side but look at all the fucks i give.
    3) women were basically tearing each other apart lining up for this stuff THAT WAS NOT ON SALE. bitches have it wrong - unless these items were $1 each or charlie hunnam was going to ring that shit up at the register for me, i would not line up for in the wee hours of the morning for regular priced shit.

sorry for this ranty post .... i'm a little pissy right now since i was woken up by the goddamn rain and wind and water managed to seep through one of the windows so i was up at 545 with my husband trying to fix that shit.

  7. as usual you knocked it out of the park with productivity! it's been a while since i've had the girls over for lunch or a party. i love a good home goods!! and that quote is absolutely true.

  8. Our weather was gross this weekend. My mom told me how nice it was in PA.
I'm in need of a Homegoods run. Next weekend.
I did lots of organizing while spending quality time with Chuck and Blair. That show should've stayed on TV forever..

  9. Your Sunday sounded just perfect! It was probably my most favorite stores to shop in! I always spend way to much cash in them all. Sunday I did tons of organizing and purging. I'm bringing 6 bags of clothes and shoes to donation today.

  10. Holy cow girl you totally cooked up a storm on Friday night - and I love the color you painted your nails!! I didn't get anything from the sale at Target and I'm not sad about it lol! xo, Biana - BlovedBoston

  12. I want to know about the ELF mascara. Right in my price range. Had a lovely time on Saturday! That was one of my favorites along with the stunning weather, sitting by the covered pool with Lori, happy she could help Rich drink his growler of beer- I just can't do it. Sunday a nice, full day- cooking, chickens, baking.
A real monsoon out there today!!! Extra lights and angels. Love, your MOMMA

  13. Saturday was GLORIOUS! Today, not so much but rain is good. (Otherwise we'd be in a desert)

  14. 5:15 - midnight in bed enjoying the laze makes you my hero for the day. I tried for a good haul of random stuff from Marshall's this weekend but found nothing I had to have. Oh well, that saves more money for the next trip!

  15. Perfect pictures with white backgrounds are overrated. Show me the real stuff!!
I love that quote about sunshine and desert. Too true.
I don't understand the Lilly Pulitzer thing. #badblogger

  16. I love the sunshine quote! I really like the nail color too. Mine need to be redone.

  17. Your whole weekend looks great, but Sunday's shopping and Red Robin - I am so jealous! That is a perfect Sunday to me!

    ReplyDelete
  18. Here I thought the coffee mug display was your haul picture, great job bringing home just one. This whole concept of what we used to wear coming back is starting to freak me out just a little bit...like really are we this old and then did it actually look good back then.

  19. I'm thankful you are not a blogger who stages her pictures on a white background.

Cooking burgers inside is always a great idea until your kitchen is filled with smoke and you wonder what the hell you were thinking. Thank god for grilling season being back.

  20. Dude - I totally need to OVERHAUL my house - It's clean, tidy - but, there may be a pile of too that I need to just - CLEAN!!!

    I COLLECT BUDDAHS TOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And that quote - about the desert. TOO TRUE!

  21. i had turkey burgers for dinner last night! so good. but i certainly didn't make 25- wow! Saturday sounds like it was tons of fun!

    ReplyDelete
  22. 25 burgers sounds like a ot of freaking work to me. Kudos o you, my love, I bet they were tasty! Another food-filled, fun-filled weekend for the books.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Dang that burger looks good. Whenever I take a mental health day off I always try to coordinate with one of my girlfriends so we can be "ladies who lunch" ;-) I love that Sally Hansen color! So perfect for the Spring!

    ReplyDelete
  24. Love the Buddha gifts! So thoughtful of her and perfect for your birthday! The ladies lunch sounds like a great time with yummy spread!

    ReplyDelete
  25. Sounds like a fantastic weekend!

What is cucumber salsa? It sounds delicious!

    ReplyDelete
  26. hahaha I didn't get anything Lilly on purpose either! and yum red robin. and is it ok i totally prefer photos without any kind of white background / over photoshopped sunshineyness? or maybe thats just me. and wow, that is some hardcore cooking you did - i prepped a few meals for a pregnant friend and i was wiped out and you smoked me out of the water. lol. i'm scared of my cast iron thingy, i can never make it stop smoking and yeah KC always complains lol

  27. Your new nail polish is perfect. I've been obsessed with all things orange/coral lately.

Lilly Pulitzer anything makes my eyes bleed.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Sounds like you had an amazingly productive weekend!! :) and those turkey burgers look DELISH!
Top 3 things for me weekend included not getting out of bed til 10 on Saturday (shocking!), good company with friends throughout and beautiful weather. :)

    Xo

  29. Sounds like a super packed weekend! I'm seriously impressed that you made that many turkey burgers, and they look delicious! I love buying new mugs, but I'm out of space so I've reached the "get rid of old ones" or "stop buying new ones" dilemma. :/

    ReplyDelete
  30. Haha - I didn't get anything Lilly Pullitzer at Target. On purpose. - Me either!! In fact, I even forgot that it came out yesterday and I was at Target at 9am to grocery shop. No fucks were given. Those burgers sound delicious, I love your idea of ladies who lunch. So fun!!!! Your finds are awesome! I love random shit at TJ Maxx and Home Goods. It is always the best!!! Hope you have a fabulous week!

  31. I love everything you got from your shopping trip. Good stuff! Let's see, this weekend's top 3 were the weather, my aunt brought my grandmother for a visit from upstate, and I actually took time to plan out my meals for the week. That's right, I'm actually prepared and hauled out my crock pot to make tonight's dinner since I will be out the rest of the day. Feels good to not be scrambling or stopping for pizza.

  32. I LOVE that nail color! It's such a beautiful color!
    Those burgers sound delicious.

    ReplyDelete
  33. You always amaze me at what you can get done in a short amount of time... your day must have more hours... or you have oompa loompas secretly helping....

    ReplyDelete
  34. Those burgers sound amazing. What's MFD got to complain about anyways, if he were home? :)

    ReplyDelete
  35. I did a little better this week en with food prep but am in no way on your level.

I am still laughing over the Lily debacle. I hope those greedy fools get stuck with every piece they snapped up with plans to resell!

    ReplyDelete
  36. Yum! Those burgers sound good! AND that nail color is all kinds of amaziness!! Top 3 things were... deep cleaned the crap out of my house. Nothing beats a clean house, nothing. I lost 8 pounds. I got a lazy day to watch movies on Saturday.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Love the ladies lunchin' date at your house! Those are the kind of days that I love. And your Sunday sounds like my heaven!! I love the way you word things as well.

    ReplyDelete
  38. All the food looks awesome.

I don't stage my photos either. I just don't have the patience.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Love your ladies who lunch idea, and all that food looked amazing! And I love that you don't stage your photos, as I'm sure you already know I don't either. Sometimes I make a little effort, but usually what you see is what you get. I just don't have the time :-P

    ReplyDelete
  40. Sunshine all the time makes a desert. SMDH. Snow all the time makes for a MOODY SMD. Can't win. ;)

    ReplyDelete
  41. You had a very full weekend and even allowed yourself time to be in bed by 5:15 on Sunday. Those kinds of weekends are fabulous. The turkey burgers sound yummy. Turkey isn't a native animal here, so turkey meat can be expensive (unfortunately). It's available...but higher priced than beef or chicken or pork or lamb.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Sounds like an awesome weekend! I'm tired just reading about it. I've never hosted a dinner for more than like 5 people, much less 25. Good for you though! I hope you feel rested today!

    ReplyDelete
  43. Every time I see your egg muffins I feel for one! As usual you had a fabulous weekend! Also I like that you didn't get any LP stuff on purpose. Im still trying to figure out the hype.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Fabulous weekend. Had so much fun. Target laughs all the way to the bank with their big name lines. People are ridiculous.

    ReplyDelete
  45. goat cheese hamburgers sound ridiculously good to me right now. I've been dreaming of the baked goat cheese ever since I got back from Chicago.

LP at Target is ridiculous. The prices, the old lady gaudy prints and colors, the fact that people were lining up for it. Ridiculous.

    ReplyDelete
  46. So much productivity! I am in love with that polish btw! So pretty!

    ReplyDelete
  47. I'm upset my new TJ Maxx does not have mug section like that, how am I suppose to buy cool mugs for friends?

    ReplyDelete
  48. I can't get behind goat cheese for some reason. Because it comes from a goat, it creeps me out. Which is completely irrational - b/c "regular" cheese comes from a damn cow. Idk what it is, but DAMMIT I WILL NOT STAND FOR IT. Also, I've never even tried it, so this is obviously backed up by science/personal experience.
"who staged photos nice nice against whiteboards" heheheheheeeee
