The Christmas that was

And it's done. Christmas has come and gone. We got to see a lot of our people and that's what it's about, right?

Wednesday night I met Kimmy Foo Foo in from NYC and her parents along with Christy and Al in from Truckee and Christy's mom for dinner. Mike and Jared joined us for drinks. I have no photos but it was a nice night until I went grocery shopping at 11 p.m. and stood in a 20 minute line. Crazy.

Christmas Eve we  met up with framily at Sandy's as is tradition. My Dad was sick this year so him and Carol weren't there. This is the first Christmas Eve in I don't know how long that I didn't spend the day with my dad. I did take him some veggie soup I made in the morning though so I saw him briefly.
After that it was off to my uncle's where I did not take enough photos probably because I was deep in my cups at this point. HO HO HOOOOOOOOOO mofos. We also stopped to see MFD's cousins on the way home.
Christmas day was more relaxed for us than it's been in years. My parents and Stephen & Aubrey came over for breakfast and MFD's family came over for lunch. We got to sit and relax and it was really wonderful especially since MFD was volunteering with the homeless from 10:30-2:30 a.m. on Christmas Eve.
I whipped up some jalapeno popper dip and headed over to Mom & Rich's to round out the day.
Our families were very generous with us as always. Just a few lovelies...
Santa brought us the Ninja, a personalized ornament from Carol & my Dad, a shirt bought at Muscle Shoals and shipped from our good friend Gena Ho, homemade lotion that smells and feels amazing from Sarah, and two new Alex & Anis for me from Santa. We're blessed with awesome people in our lives who are very generous as well.

Christmas is the only day of the year when I don't care what my house looks like. Today, it still looks like this, and something must be done about it. I'm super pleased that my office is closed today, but if it wasn't I'd be off anyway. I never work on my birthday, Christmas Eve, or the day after Christmas.

I'll be setting it to rights since Clark Griswold will not allow the Christmas decor to be put away today. If I had my way, It would all be gone already. I'm going to work on him a little and see if I can make some of it disappear. Edited to add: compromise - we're now in Christmas Light mode - tree, front window and exterior stuff is still up, the rest of the house is back to normal.

I hope you had a truly wonderful Christmas. Tell me all about it!

  3. Stayed in all day on Christmas day with my boys! Watched Lucas play with his toys all day! Liam just slept most of the day, such is the life of a one month old! It was very relaxing, much different than Christmas in years past.

  6. My rule of thumb is that Christmas decor usually comes down before my birthday (January 10). Unless Scott is deployed and, in that case, I've been known to leave the tree up until March. My countertops often look like that.
We were thinking of getting a Ninja…

  7. My house is a mess and I usually wait to New Years Day but it might be earlier this year. I want it to be nice and clean before going back to work. I have heard really good things about the ninja. You had a lot of fun family time, glad it was good and hope you get some naps in the rest of the week.

  8. I love your husband's shirt in those first few pictures! It's funny because I was making fun of my husband the past few days because he's been watching that movie over and over. Our house literally looks like a bomb hit it but I'm just so tired to thoroughly clean it now. Christmas just went too fast! We celebrated with my husband's side, my family and also managed to stop by a friend's house. I'm jealous of your Ninja!!

  10. The Ninja is the business!! Growing up we used to get the tree up late so it stayed up til about mid Jan. Now that I can put it up right after Thanksgiving it also comes down earlier.

You cracked me up saying "Clark Griswold"!! Hope your dad is feeling better.

  13. It looks like you had a blast! Your pugs are the cutest dogs ever. I'm actually really jealous and at the same time, curious as to how you got them to tolerate wearing the Christmas hats. I can't get my cats to do anything of the sort for me!

  15. This looks like the merriest! I love that MFD spent part of the holiday helping the homeless - what did he do? Happy ninja time!! (Seriously. When does a blender become a ninja? The things I wonder, lol...)

  16. Awww... that's so cute/cool that MFD volunteered on Christmas Eve. He's alright, that guy. :)
Ninjas are the SHIT! We got one a couple of years ago and they will blend anything and everything. Pete even makes nut butters sometimes with it... it grinds them up so fine and creamy!

I love all of the pictures you included. Looks like all of your holiday celebrations were great! Isn't it crazy how fast everything goes? A whole month (or more) of planning, and just like that it's over!

  23. All I want for the Monday after Christmas is some jalapeño poppers. MMMMMMMMMMMMMM. Also, I love the bracelets you got from Santa. I bought some as a gift for my sister in law to be, but I haven't purchased any for myself yet.

  26. All Christmas paraphernalia stays up until after 3 Kings day, which I do not celebrate. But It's a compromise -- I'd keep it up all of January too! I got a lot of fantastic presents, AND a little vintage ceramic Christmas tree like the ones I've been drooling over for the last year.
