Beauty is not in the face; beauty is a light in the heart - KahlilGibran

Since I can't show you a photo of the light in my heart without the aid of machines, I will share my five favorite beauty things instead. Have you ever known a physical beauty who is so ugly in their soul that they appear off in an ugly way on the exterior? Me too. Don't ever let that be you. Trust that there is a light in my heart that I cultivate daily, and be sure you're cultivating yours as well.

My five favorite beauty products:
1. MAC Studio Careblend Pressed Powder in Light Plus
2. I like to call #2 Filene's Basement because this shit is at rock bottom prices. L'Oreal Voluminous Million Lashes - this is the poor lady's Lancome Definicils. There's legitimately no difference. Trust me. I used to shell out the bucks for the Lancome version. There is also no difference between this $2 elf eyelash curler and my now defunct $20 Shu Uemura eyelash curler. What's in a name? In the case of these items, a lot of wasted money, that's what.
3. Urban Decay eyeshadow primer potion - no other primer comes close to the staying power of this one.
4. I made the nice lady at Sephora try every MFing concealer in the store under my eyes to match my doesn't appear yellow but is undertone, and I ended up with Yves St. Laurent Anti-Cernes. I can get you the color if you want it but concealer is personal.
5. Lipstick is also personal, says my BFF Raymond at the MAC counter at Macy's Center City. However I strongly suggest you try MAC Twig for your every day lip color. It looks perfect on everyone I force it on.

In the interest of full disclosure, Monday through Wednesday I'm lucky to swipe mascara on before leaving the house. I apply my lipstick on the train. By Thursday I've usually gotten the ass about me to put some eyeliner and eyeshadow on. If I go out on the weekend I might even use face makeup. I am not a full makeup face girl. When I do wear more, these are some of my favorites:
1. Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil
2. Clinique Quickliner for Eyes
3. Sephora Collection Colorful Eyeshadow in peach beige
4. Laura Mercier oil-free tinted moisturizer and Benefit High Beam. The Laura is expensive but doesn't break me out like every other blasted thing. The Benefit was in a gift bag and it's awesome.

Do you use any of these? What are your top five must have beauty products?

Kiss kiss hug hug.

  1. sooooooo.....i used to be a HUGE Laura fan until:

    1) her lip treatment fucked up my lips and make them all white and peely like a crackwhore. same with her tinted lipstick. too bad because it was such an awesome color.

    2) her tinted primer used to be my go-to primer until it completely screwed up my skin, causing it to freak the hell out for weeks (red, inflamed, painful) and then sephora told me that they received a bad batch of her primer and was giving out full refunds with no questions (or receipts).

that's when i said goodbye to her products because she lost my trust *sadface*.

i do love NARS products though - they have great bronzers, eyeliners and blushes.

  7. Ahhhh, a Friday post on one of my favorite subject matters. I'm not a fan of Laura Mercier, but I know many who swear by her products. I can never find a suitable shade to match me.

I love me my MAC eyeshadows, I'd say Club is my favorite. Pigments are fantastic too, as you can make lip glosses, eyeshadow, liner, highlighters with them. Extremely versatile.

  8. UD eye primer is my favorite ever.

  10. Since I haven't been working — I haven't worn lipstick in months. But I LOVE buying a new lipstick and it making a statement on my face. I might just have to find this one and try it out!! Happy Friday!! and thanks for linking up today!! Y'all have a wonderful weekend ahead!

  11. girllll you got some nice stuff! i have cheapo stuff except i do sometimes use bare minerals- i love it bc it doesnt really look like makeup. with you on during the week just maybe throwing on mascara. too.much.effort.

  12. Urban Decay Eye Primer is my FAVORITE make up product ever! It is the best of the best. I am a huge fan of Make Up Forever HD foundation, the Naked eye palette by UD and NARS lip gloss.

  13. Was introduced to Laura Mercier tinted fondation since 2005 and have been using it ever since. I need to get myself a new mascara so I just added L'Oréal Voluminous Million Lashes to my "Must Buy" list for the weekend. :)

  14. You do have a beautiful heart girl! I love L'Oreal Voluminous mascara! It is my go-to. I like that the UD primer went to a squeeze tube because the wand was my biggest dislike of their product - so much wasted product. By Friday I am lucky I am wearing any makeup!

  15. Love your favorites! You may also want to check out MAC Lipstick in Syrup! It is gorgeous!

  16. Oh I how I love makeup. My top five products:
    1. Make Up Forever HD Foundation
    2. Sephora Mircosmooth Powder
    3. Covergirl Lashblast Mascara (that fat orange tube)
    4. Smashbox Brozer (Bronze Lights)
    5. My LORAC Mint Edition Palette (when it wrongs out I will probably cry because its been discontinued).

  17. Good to know about the Filene's mascara :) That line is going to crack me up for days. UD is awesome, I never realized how much of their stuff I use til I did my makeup post.

  18. I shall check out that MAC lipstick color.

I love Environ eye gel, but it's pricey as Hell. I'm out right now and I feel like I look 417. Undereye wrinkles are a bane.

I shall also try the Voluminous mascara.

  19. I need to do one of these. Urban Decay primer is the bomb. It's hands down the best I've ever used and I don't want to be without it.

Another go-to for me is Benefit BrowZings. If I put no other makeup on, I use this on my brows.

    ReplyDelete
  20. I absolutely love Benefit products! That is probably my number one favorite brand of cosmetics. But its good to see some new ideas to try!

  22. Hahah. Concealer is personal. Why is it so difficult to find a good one. I'm a full makeup face girl. My skin is so thin and uneven. If I don't put some good stuff on it, you can see my veins! That's no bueno. I love all things elf. They do amazing online sales and I stock up! I love theie eyeshadows, bronzer, and blush, oh and nail polish!

  23. I am a moth to a flame when it comes to cosmetics. Lipsticks are my favorite. I am a cheapskate when it comes to beauty. I may venture out with you one day so you can show me the finer things.

    ReplyDelete
  24. I don't use any of them, but that's because I'm lazy and/or cheap. I have invested in the Naked 2 palette, which I love, but other than that, I use Maybeline Falsies masacara {hello full lashes}, NYC Liquid Liner, Physicians Formula bronzer palette, and Merle Norman's Lasting Foundation to cover blemishes.
