Thursday Thoughts da do ron-ron-ron, da do ron-ron

1. I should not be laughing so much at this stuff because it's insane that this shitshow is real life, but I can't help it. Thanks to Michelle for sending me this one yesterday morning.

2. I don't understand why people think you support police OR the black lives matter movement. It's not an either/or thing. A few bad acts by minorities don't make all minorities bad. A few bad acts by cops don't make all cops bad. I support the hell out of good cops and people of any and all colors standing up for social inequity. I've seen people make "defriend me" declarations over this, and man...I just don't know how we continue like that. When have we ever solved a problem by slamming the door in the face of others? I also don't know how people can't see what black lives matter means versus all lives matter. I don't know what else to say but I know I don't want to stay silent. I don't think that helps. I don't want to stop talking to people who think differently than me either. I do want the violence to stop, even though I am aware that grand change doesn't often come about without it. Hopefully we can move forward by talking and listening and stopping the violence as all it does is perpetuate stereotypes on both sides of the line. Maybe we can move forward like this, or by reading and embracing the words of Montrell Jackson, murdered Baton Rouge police officer. I'll help heal you if you help heal me. Deal?
3. My happy smiley precious genius niece Lola Jean is back from her two week vacation. I was so happy to see her on Tuesday night. It's amazing to watch her figure things out and see how proud she is to do things on her own and how much she loves her own reflection. My dream is that she is always proud of herself, independent, and loves who she is. I think that dream will come true -  she has encouraging, loving, patient parents and a full family of people on both sides who absolutely delight in her. Love is so powerful and a tough as nails binder of people as they're being formed.

4. I've been getting into bed relatively early but not falling asleep. Tuesday night I made myself a mug of go the fuck to sleep tea (AKA Yogi Honey Lavender Stress Relief tea, mug from Lola, book I finished Tuesday) and I think I've got myself back in a good rhythm.
5. MFD was at the shore yesterday to have a new dishwasher installed. I'm still in the trenches battling it out with Samsung to get a refund for their shitbox dishwasher. Between the dryer at home, the double window air conditioner shitshow at the shore last weekend, and this dishwasher, I'm hoping that's three appliance things and done for us.

6. Midweek trip to Marshalls? Don't mind if I do. It felt nice to stroll the aisles in an empty store even though they didn't have the thing for which I was searching.

7. Excuse the weird contortion. I had to get a pedicure yesterday and I said fuck it and got my nails done too. I tried that new OPI Infinite Shine on the nails, it's supposed to be shiny for 10 days but doesn't require any lights or special removal. I'll report back on how it does. Toes: OPI I Manicure for Beads. Nails: OPI Pretty Pink Perseveres.

8. I love fake dinosaurs. Video from a walk past the Academy of Natural Sciences, which is going all out dinosaur this summer. Local parents, your kids might like to make a visit if they're into dinos.

9. Reminder:

10. E-card of the week. Asking for tomorrow...

  1. I had not read that from Montrell Jackson. I had to exhale audibly and just sit for a beat or ten. Actually, more than that. Now, I'm lost in thought and not sure that I can adequately comment anything right now. Happy almost weekend to you. Thanks for sharing that.

  2. Wow. I agree with Erin and I appreciate you sharing that post; I hadn't seen it either. I love your thoughts about your niece and who she will grow up to be. These days, hearing everything happening in our world, I am really focusing on what I can do as a parent to help my girls grow into kind people with strong morals and integrity. I love that "life is tough" quote too. (And of course - I love Still Life :))

  3. Love that nail color. Can't wait for the report back on wear. Our Lola has the best case scenario and she brings joy wherever she goes. She is pure light. Feisty pure light! Love the Chris Rock e card. Do not love the trump situation. Sending more lights and positive energy everywhere. Grateful to infinity and beyond for our blessed lives. I wish the same for all. Enjoying the cool morning by my healing ocean oasis! Love. Lights. Angels. To all! Love. Your. Momma.

  4. LOL at #1. Agree so much on #2. The thing that eats at me the most is the blind support of ALL cops by other cops, dispatchers etc. —especially that I'm friends with. You can be a supporter of police officers AND recognize that some of them have made tremendous mistakes and committed crimes. Just like you can acknowledge that any living human has that same capacity for hate or idiocy. You don't have to say the black men who have been murdered by cops deserved it in order to be a supporter of your local or national police force. And that I have never, ever seen anyone support a cop without breaking their backs to deny any wrongdoing, ever, is scary and off-putting.

    #9 was a good reminder today :)

  5. I seriously cannot stop reading the Melania Trump hashtags on Twitter -- they have me rolling with laughter! I will definitely have to check back on the wear of that nail polish. I just bought some new nail polish last month that chipped and looked like crap the very same day. Ugh. Hope you have a fantastic rest of the week! Good luck with Samsung, yikes.

  6. I keep telling myself that I shouldn't be laughing at the current politic situation, however I can't help myself. It still seems like a weird movie. I'm glad I'm not the only one that feels like this. Also, I love that toe color. You've inspired me to add a little purple to my life today. Happy Thursday!

  7. In regards to your last ecard... it is so f-ing hot outside and I am 100% over it. Bring on fall. I'm ready. (I was ready in March...)

I think that a humanity has surprised me so much in the last several months... (not in a good way). It's chilling to know that there's THAT much hate in the world that people are openly shooting at police men and women. In the same breath, it turns my stomach when I hear stories about innocent people being abused or killed at the hands of professionals (police). I can't understand violence- I really can't. I avoid violent movies/books/games because I don't see any entertainment value or positive outcome with violence. The way to fix the world isn't to divide ourselves into teams. It's certainly not going to help if our political "leaders" (using that loosely) encourage us to hate based on religion, sex, gender, race, sexual orientation, etc. I just don't get that mentality. And it makes me so absolutely sick so see those political signs in people's yards announcing to the world that they're proud to subscribe to these ideas of hate and elitism and discrimination. UGH.

  8. The whole RNC/Trump campaign/Melania debacle has me stressed out. I fully respect people's right to believe what they want and vote how they want, even if that includes a Republican candidate. However, I just don't get how people can vote for Trump. How people can overlook the misogynistic, rude, childish behavior he exhibits. I caught a few seconds of his son talking last night, and he looks like the epitome of douchebaggery. I cannot with this family. Ugh. I know I am preaching to the choir.

I also agree that it isn't an either/or situation. I can support police reform while still supporting the police. I can recognize that egregious errors and excessive force were used without disregarding any respect for law enforcement. I despise the all or nothing mentality and the refusal of people on both sides to even acknowledge the other side of it all. So many law enforcement officers and family members unquestioningly support all other LEOs and refuse to even think that someone could do something wrong, when there is clearly issues with some of them, and on the other side, I think a lot of people who are part of the black lives matter movement feel that ALL law enforcement is bad and refuse to acknowledge how difficult their job is.

  9. Bad things happen in threes and all. Hope things are looking up!
    I'm contemplating a mid-week trip to Marshall's.

Since it's hella hot outside, I've decided no makeup and gym clothes for the next couple of weeks.

  10. Ugh everything that is going on right now just makes me sick! Why can't everybody just get over themselves and get along?

  11. NUMBER TWO. YES YES YES. This has caused me so much anger recently.

  12. With that toe nail polish, we are twinsies right now! I love your finger color too! I am totally with you on you can support both good cops and people of all race/religion/sexual orientation/political views. I just support decent humans no matter what. I don't get how there can be so much hate and violence that comes out of all of this. You don't fight violence with violence. It doesn't work. It has never worked.

Go the fuck to sleep tea. Ha!!! I need that.

  13. Your nail colors are so pretty- I love the purple for your toes. I feel like I've been living in some kind of fog of feeling like things that are happening cannot be real life.

  14. One of those fake dino shows were around here - I tried to get my step daughter to bring our grand sons up here so they could see it & mainly so I could tag along :) haha
Be sure to post an update on the nails.
I so laughed at the Chris Rock comment.

  15. The best thing about the Melania Trump speech is that she had Republicans cheering for words that Michelle said. Part of me wants to feel badly for her but allegedly she chose to marry that blowhard, so I can't do it.

  16. I love the nails.
I was so heartbroken when I had read that Montrell Jackson post. I don't understand why people don't realize that you don't have to be one or the other.

  17. People who don't get Black Lives Matter vs. All Lives Matter make absolutely no sense to me. I just don't understand. And then when they make the bullshit, "Black on black crime is really high!" I just want to slap them. I had only seen headlines in passing about the shooting of officers in Baton Rouge (sad that these things are now so common I don't always bat an eyelash) but it's such a shame that such a good man was taken. (Not that I would support someone shooting any cop--or person.)

  18. #2...I don't understand. Just...respect people. For being people. That's all the requirements for deserving to live a peaceful life.

  19. I spy Louise Penny! I've also been having trouble going to bed but then not being able to fall asleep. This guy sold me on an equal teaspoon of Manuka honey and coconut oil before bed. There's some science behind it but apparently it makes melatonin so I have some Manuka in the way to me.

  20. Melania Trump's speech is all over Twitter. No surprise there.

I really hope this injustice for our black brothers and sister would be over soon. When will people start looking beyond what they see is a mystery to me.

I've read good reviews on Still Life. I will have to add it to my ever growing reading list.

    Enjoy the weekend! :D

  21. Pretty nail colors!! I'm dreading the weather this week/weekend since we only have AC in our bedroom. I am pretty much planning to lay on the bed all weekend and read!!

  22. Haha, I can't wait for this heat to subside it's hanging on for dear life! I love the nail color!!

  23. Sometimes... I don't know if I should laugh or cry, it's like I'm mad. I cannot for the life of me understand why we have to choose sides or why we have to have division. Why is it that you're not patriotic if you don't think the same as others, yet those same people believe that America isn't great? What IS great about this country IS our differences. We're a melting pot of beautiful people with differences that do NOT have to divide us.
Mr. Jackson's post makes me terribly sad.
It's another reminder that again some of us feel we have to choose sides. That some of us have no regard for human life or families, or love. I'm emotionally tired. Heartbroken.
    Wishing you a beautiful weekend.
    xoxo

  24. You nailed it on point two. You couldn't see me, but I was applauding over here. My brother-in-law is a police officer (and a good one), and I support the police. But I am also against police brutality (as are the good police officers). It does not have to be an either/or situation.

  25. It's been stupid hot this week and it's made me crankier than usual. Couldn't watch the RNC because it made me stabby. All the memes though. All the memes. Good luck with the DNC taking over your city. Hopefully the transit situation is rectified.

  26. Ummmmmm looking at #melaniatrump on Instagram the day after that happened honestly had me DYING. The memes were so, so, so funny. I know she is private and I know that people generally have a team they rely on for their speech so I did kinda feel bad for her. Like she finally does a big public proclamation and it goes down in flames. Yikes! Her outfit was pretty awesome.

#2 - We had a huge discussion about this at brunch on Saturday with friends. This is where we are in this country - everything is completely divisive. You apparently have to be on ONE SIDE vs another at any given time. It honestly makes me sick. Both incidents with the shootings of the black men and the police killings made me watch TV with tears down my face. They were both awful and sad. Politics in the United States are supremely messed-up.

  27. Got some good laughs out of the Republican National Clusterfuck. Wish I could bein Philly for DNC!

  28. I love your Thursday Thoughts . . . and in our current climate as a country, laughter may be the best medicine. I am absolutely with you on #2 - I wish folks would quit with the sweeping generalizations ABOUT EVERYTHING! In other news, your fingers and toes look fabulous!!

    ReplyDelete
  29. as always, yes to everything you said for #2. i definitely think all lives matter, but black lives matter is a completely different thing to me. i don't understand people who are shocked and disgusted by this hate and then they respond with hate? like don't they see they are doing the same thing? you can't believe this cop did that, so you hate all cops? what? i don't think we all need to 'love' each other, but good lord this hate has to stop.
on a lighter note... does the go the fuck to sleep tea work? i need it if so.
