January Recommendations

Skimmers, recommendations are in bold. Anything that's colored text is a clickable link. Aside from me, this month you get recs from Emily at Martinis & Bikinis and Nicole at Nicole Marica.  Both of these ladies are on my daily reads list, I hope you follow them all the ways! Links to their blogs and social media accounts are beneath their photos.

1. L'Oreal Go 360 Clean Deep Exfoliating Scrub: I've been using this scrub for over two years and love how it gently cleans your pores, removes makeup, and exfoliates skin. It comes with the Srublet attached at the front which is soft but still effective at deep cleaning your face at the end of the day.

2. Formula 10.0.6 So Totally Clean Toner: The sales clerk at Ulta recommended this toner and I love how it works. It's also gentle without a harsh alcohol smell and the price tag is very affordable compared to some of the bigger makeup brand names.

3. OPI's On Her Majesty's Secret Service nail color - I painted my nails this color for NYE and loved the dark sparkly look for the holidays or, if you love sparkles like I do, it's a pretty nail color for anytime of the year.

4. Bluapple: These babies help prolong the freshness of your fruits and veggies. We eat lots of veggies so my storage drawer in the fridge is usually stacked full and I place the Bluapple in there to keep everything fresh and prevent fast spoilage.

5. Stirrings Dirty Martini mix: It's no secret, I love dirty martinis with blue cheese stuffed olives. I've experimented with different recipes and finally found Stirrings Dirty Martini Mix which is the best tasting in my books.

1. Lace Sleeve Tee at Loft. I ordered this shirt originally in the wine color and loved it so I waited for it to go on sale again (longest week of my life!) and ordered it in the white color. I rarely purchase the same shirt in different colors so it's safe to say that I love it! The fabric is soft and lays perfectly.

2. Risk! Podcast I'm obsessed with this podcast ever since I discovered podcasts existed. I love listening to other people tell tales from their lives. It makes me feel a little closer to understanding others.

3This is Where I Leave You I love books that make me laugh but are also "dramatic" enough to keep me intrigued. This book was the perfect mix and I couldn't put it down. The movie was really good too, plus it had Tina Fey and Jason Bateman in it and you can't go wrong with those two!

4. Cheesesteak Egg Rolls I had these gifts from God at a work function and they were amazing. I tried to make them at home and failed (it was, in fairness to me, my first attempt at frying anything), but they're so good I'll risk making them again.

5. Hand Relief Creme by Aveda. I've never had to deal with dry hands and I hate the greasy feel of most lotions. This year, however, my hands have been ridiculously dry and I've tried a ton of hand cremes, this one was the only one that moisturized my hands and didn't leave me feel like my hands were an oil slick.

1. Wayfair: I bought pendant lights for the kitchen from this site. I think their home stuff is really cute and the prices are pretty good on some stuff. High on others. Anyway I also got a fruit basket that arrived sort of leaning a little. They were really great about the return, helped me to process it when the website gave me trouble, and refunded it without me having to ship it back. They said to just donate it. I thought that was cool. This level of customer service will guarantee that I'll be back when I need something else.

2. Not Your Mother's Way to Grow Long and Strong Shampoo and Conditioner: First, they smell awesome - my coworkers can smell it on hair washing days. Second, they're safe for color-treated hair and are sulfate-free. Third, they're only $5.99 each. Fourth, they're recommended by my beauty guru Jill. Win, win, win, win. I recommended some other Not Your Mother's products back in April 2014. I really love this line.

3. Bite Beauty high pigment lip pencils. These are awesome and not drying at all. I have one in Velvet and one in Amarone. I love them. They're pricey at $24, but they have no parabens, sulfates, or synthetics. Kathy B originally introduced me to this line and I love it. I have a lipstick too but these pencils are where it's at for me.

4.  Getting groceries delivered. Seriously, where have I been? I used Peapod this past weekend and that's how I'm rolling going forward. They shop, pack, and bring the groceries right to your door. I'm trying to cut down on my after work errands and this will be revolutionary.

5. Baking your hard boiled eggs. Put eggs in muffin tins, bake at 325 for 25 minutes, put immediately into an ice bath for 10, peel, store, done. The most success I've ever had with hard boiled eggs on the peeling side. Plus I don't need to wait for water to boil. Done and done.

Thanks to Emily & Nicole for their recommendations! My sixth recommendation is that you enter to win a $50 Amazon gift card. What else are you going to do in February aside from troll the internets looking for loot?

  8. Loving Emily's face scrub recommendations, my skin seems to "get used to" whatever I'm using after a while and I have to switch it up. And it's looking like that time for me again :-P

And YES to Wayfair, we have ordered so many great pieces for the home from there.. furniture, an elliptical, decor, etc... great experience and quality every time.

  9. You can bake hard boiled eggs?! Just keep on changing my life over here!

  10. grocery shopping is the bane of my existence. I'm cursing myself for living in a rural area where a magical thing like grocery delivery does not exist. also still cursing about the fact that we don't get free coffee from DD on random philly related occasions.

    happy little little Friday.

  11. I need grocery delivery in my life immediately. Do you find it more expensive?

Is the shampoo and conditioner available at somewhere like Target? Or is it something that has to be purchased at a specialty store? I am obsessed with good smelling hair stuff that I can smell all day.

  12. I need that hand relief. My hands get so dry and start to hurt... but oily feelings are the worst!!

  14. I am obsessed with online "window shopping" at Wayfair - I really just need to buy something!

    ReplyDelete
  15. Very intrigued about the blue apples to keep produce fresh! I would actually love to have my groceries delivered to cut down on runs to the store. Is it an expensive service?

  16. ooh bluapple sounds interesting, i'll have to check it out. and that lace tee - so cute! thankfully loft's site is undergoing maintenance because i really don't need to shop anymore this month! and this is where i leave you is on my TBR list. i have never shopped at wayfair but i'll keep them in mind for sure! and i've been meaning to pick up some not your mothers shampoo and conditioner because everyone is recommending them! ps i just love these posts :)

  17. I'm going to have to try the NYM shampoo & conditioner. I'm almost out of the stuff I have.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Gonna try the baked eggs! I recommend Carnivor cabernet sauvignon. It's awesome, full bodied, deep and rich, and not expensive.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Love that nail polish color from Emily. Man I keep getting Peapod coupons from Weight Watchers and I'm super tempted to try it. Worried about when I don't have coupons and how expensive it could get though.

  20. The shirt, the lotion, and the shampoo are all going on my to buy list. PS, thank you for not being one of those bloggers with affiliate links that just say "THIS lotion" that makes me click to Amazon to see what you're talking about. That is truly appreciated by my "Blogging as business is less fun" self. The only new thing I've discovered lately that I haven't shared is the cookie butter sandwich cookies at Trader Joe's. If you like cookie butter and want more in your life, give them a try but they aren't world-stopping amazing.

  21. Completely twitching over the beauty of Emily's nail polish....I will not buy nail polish, I will not buy nail polish this year. Starting to think that may have been the dumbest idea ever. Love those bite beauty products as well. I always get the Lip Mask (think that is what it is called). put it on before bed and wake up with glorious hydrated lips.

  22. I need that Bluapple thing. I am ALWAYS throwing away produce because it goes bad SO fast (it's half bad already when we get it!). Also...

YES to those Bite lip pencils. I bought that little 4-pencil mini kit that came out before Christmas and I LOVE it. I'm forever tempted to buy more but I need to curb my lipstick habit, stat.

I started doing hard "boiled" eggs in the oven about a year ago and I'll never actually boil them again.

  23. I haven't heard of the Bluapple but I need it!! I eat so many veggies. The NYM brand is amazing. Love their dry shampoo too.

  28. duuuuuuuuude! I'm absolutely trying the egg thing. I suck at making hard boiled eggs (how!?!?!)! Plus, I like anything that's simplified! Thanks for sharing!

    ReplyDelete
  29. I would love to have my groceries delivered! Checked out Peapod and they're not in my area but just curious...how much is the fee and is it like a membership or you pay per delivery?

    ReplyDelete
  30. I'm so behind on everything so I just discovered Wayfair and I love it. I'm in the market for a yellow, gray, and white comforter and they have such a huge selection! I'm excited to see what else they have.

I want to read This Is Where I Leave You. I need to read it before I see the movie. So I should do that soon.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Yay! Giveaway! Two of things you mentioned I love. Peapod food delivery and Wayfair for home stuff. I could browse Wayfair for hours. I want to try out that dirty martini mix that was posted too.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Oo nice polish. I wish I could wear polish but it makes me feel weighed down. I'm odd.

I watched and read This Is Where I Leave You. The book was better, but I also enjoyed the movie.

    ReplyDelete
  36. I have been wanting to try baking eggs but didn't know anyone I trusted that had done it...but now I do!!!

I am going to have to try the blueapple thing. Nothing pisses me off more than wasted food. And veggies are so damn expensive! Lauren has me addicted to the Call Your Girlfriend podcast, so I have been listening to that every morning and evening on my way home. I may have to look in to Risk next!

    ReplyDelete
  37. I need a toner so Ill have to keep a lookout for that one! Love the nail colour as well!

    ReplyDelete
  38. I need that Bluapple thingamajigger! We've tried those greenish tinted bags before and they were just a pain in the ass. I don't like pains in the ass. I like easy. That looks easy.
NYM stuff is the shit. I should try that line... I've used random products of theirs here and there and I have the Beach Babe line - smells SO GOOD!
