Readers wanted? Anyone? Bueller?

Source
Every day this week, I've been jolted into reality as the doors open at my stop. I scramble to gather my things and exit the train without dropping anything, tripping on myself, or bumping into anyone. I'm in a fog, shaking my head a little to clear it.

I'm not on drugs. I haven't been sleeping on the way in, although god knows I could use it - I've been averaging six hours a night, and they haven't been quality. I've been reading. I've been so immersed in worlds other people created that I have not been present on the 45 minute train ride into the city. I haven't noticed who's gotten on or off the train, or if the lady across from me is still plucking her eyebrows and discarding them on the lap of the person next to her left. No, I'm not shitting you. That actually happened on Wednesday.

Getting lost in a book is such a wonderful feeling. It's almost like coming out of a deep sleep, which ideally is done slowly and not in the manner I mentioned above. I'm trying to dodge angry commuters in Suburban Station while in my mind I'm still sitting next to Anya on a cold bench in the winter garden.

If anyone knows of a job where I can just read all the live long day, let me know. I'm exceptionally qualified.

What have I been reading this week?

Insurgent by Veronica Roth, the follow up to Divergent. I am dying for the next one...which I just found out (thank you Google, as always) will not be out until October. WTF! Patience is not my virtue.

Winter Garden by Kristin Hannah. I want to get to the end so I'll know if I still one to kick one of the main characters in the crotch or not.

Remember that you can always keep up with what I'm reading by clicking on the Let's Talk Books page on the navigation bar.

What are you reading?

  1. You are a serious reader! I love to read and never seem to make time for it. I don't know why...but I think I will let you inspire me to pick up that book on my bedside table (and dust it off).

  3. Divergent is on my list but now that I know the third won't be out till October maybe I'll hold off. On the other hand, I could use something that will suck me in. I'm in a bit of a reading rut.

  4. You are such a good writer, I got "lost" reading this post. Brie, my mom and I (and PJ) went out to dinner last night, and we had a book discussion. Both my mom and dad are avid readers, and I'm SOOOO glad Brie and I picked up that nasty little habit.
The last great thing I read was Silver Linings Playbook. I'm in dire need of something amazing to read, I'm heading over to your "Let talk books page" now!

  7. Thanks for making me a little less weird about reading "Young Adult" fiction (now that I know I am not the only one!) I got sucked into the Divergent series last year and it was a guilty pleasure! If you haven't already, try reading Delirium by Lauren Oliver.

  9. You just reminded me of how much I miss reading... I don't seem to get to it lately. Not sure why. It's time to get back to it, but when I do, it's goodbye family, friends, and life, hello books! I have trouble with moderation...

  10. I'm reading Safe Haven right now. I think I'm going to have to add Divergent to my reading list, I've heard good things about it.

  13. I love reading too. Right now I'm in a TV watching phase though. So my books and magazines are piling up and I'm only reading about 20 pages a night. But I have to finish Homeland! And I just started binge watching Arrested Development again. After that I'll probably dive into books again until my TiVo reaches 99%. It's a viscous cycle.

  14. Love to read. But I am so darn impatient I read the end so I can relax and enjoy the book! I know that horrifies people, but it works for me. Also, very into non-fiction. Just finished Never Letting Go by Mark Anthony- a psychic lawyer. Always comforting & fascinating to read these types of books. Loved Gone Girl, too!
Reading is a luxury I never take for granted. AND 50 million EWS! to the train eyebrow-plucker!
    Godspeed everyone.
    Love your MOMMA

  16. ugh so refreshing. I love to read. BUT, I confess I like easy reads.. happy, girly, funny.. etc. TEENIE BOPPER. then again, I also like a political read or a biography. I SAY - AS LONG AS YOU READ it's a bonus.

    lost in your words! xo

  17. I'm an embarrasment to readers and libraries everywhere. Last book I read - the Twilight Series. Sorry. Kill me now. I enjoyed it. I hate reading books. Always have. I get bored. My eyes read the words, but my mind wonders. I wish I liked to read. I think it would be relaxing...but no...
