TWTW - Feb-ru-ary

Friday night after I got groceries delivered I got busy in the kitchen. First task: brining Horace the turkey. I believe in naming my turkeys.
Second task: making salted caramel butter bars. What a bastard mess, but worth it. MFD was off frolicking around seeing Dave Attell and other comedians, so I also made spinach casserole and sweet potato casserole before calling it a night around 11:30.
Saturday I woke up to a Keurig that would not produce coffee. Motherfucker. So I headed out and got coffee and gas at Wawa, then picked up a new Keurig. When I got home I worked on stuffing and got Horace in the oven. He was a beaut. Then I sage smudged my house because the heater, the washer, and the Keurig have all broken since the second week of January. Sayonara, bad energy.
Saturday night framily joined us for dinner and it was a great relaxing night. We're trying to make a better effort to see each other once a month. Life gets so busy and before you know it three months have gone by.

Do you guys have professional photographers document your soirees? No? Cool. Thanks to Evan for these pics! Anyone in the PA/NJ area needing a photographer, check out Evan Leslie Images.
My photos from the night? LOLz. Our dogs were worn out from company.
I finally fell into bed around 1:30 Saturday night and slept for 11 hours. It was wonderful. The dogs needed even more rest because this is what they spent most of Sunday doing while I was laying out my clothes for the week, putting fresh sheets on the bed, and doing laundry:
Weekly food prep: egg muffins with spinach, mushrooms, and jalapeno cheddar cheese for breakfast; lemons cut up for water; hard boiled eggs for MFD; cucumbers, hummus, bananas, and apples for snacks. I used Horace's carcass and made turkey soup with onion, carrots, celery, mushrooms, garlic, spinach, and brown rice for Sunday dinner and this week's lunches. Other dinners: lemon chicken thighs over sauerkraut; salmon and steamed veggies; baked potatoes with laughing cow light cheese, salsa and veggies; and veggie omelets.

Other than that, I finished a book because I wanted to get it in for tomorrow's post. Are you linking up with me and Jana for Show Us Your Books?

Five chances to kill it daily this week. Let's begin.

  1. Your dogs are seriously adorable. I just can't handle their cuteness! I love that you all have decided to get together monthly! What a fun gathering it looks like! And DUDE! What's with all the appliances breaking!

  2. I love it when a weekend's pictures are all food-related. I love having the time to cook/bake on Saturday and Sunday.

Also, definitely wish I had a group of friends here like this...I used to go to those kinds of get-togethers in Alaska.

  7. I have had 2 Keurigs totally shit the bed. I got the 2.0 for Christmas. It's pretty spectacular. I'm sure it will die soon.

Also, I am shaking my head at how many people on Twitter had no idea who Beck was. WTF? I truly hope the tweets calling him a new guy were tongue in cheek and not serious.

  9. These Keurigs. JMJ! Love the pictures from Saturday night, especially the group picture. Always worth taking the time! Evan 's pictures are awesome. Now I feel like making chicken soup with my split breasts. Love how Mae lays on her brothers.
Great idea to sage. I need to do that. Can't hurt!
Safety first while outdoors today- on foot or in cars. The icing is stealthy right through to tomorrow morning.

    Love, Your Momma

  11. I need those salted caramel bars in my life ASAP! My Keurig went wonky a few months ago but it turned out it just needed to be cleaned. I followed the directions I found online to take it all apart and it worked like new after I was done. I'm super curious about baked potato with laughing cow cheese, do you use the cheese like you would sour cream? I use the LC cheese to replace cream cheese on bagels but I'd love to have another use for it.

  12. No bueno on the broken Keurig! That definitely makes for a bad way to start the weekend. Your pups are cute- apparently mine caught whatever was making yours so tired, because all they did was sleep ALL WEEKEND LONG! Or, they're just lazy and like to snuggle :) Happy Monday! -Dorrie @ Bear Den Plantation

  14. YES!!! I name turkeys too! This year's turkey was Guadalupe. (long story) Also, one of my favorite episode of New Girl is the Thanksgiving one from Season 1. Jess names the turkey Hank. (Happy Hanksgiving)

  15. you were a baking machine! salted caramel butter bars sound dangerous. In that I would consume them all.

  16. I so need the recipe for the salted caramel butter bars! It looks like you all had such a fun time and as always you were SO PRODUCTIVE on your prep day!

  17. I need to sage smudge my life. Where do you get those things?

    ReplyDelete
  18. wait wait wai! before you use your new Keurig, try descaling your old one first...same thing happened to us and i had to run vinegar/hot water through it...then it was all good :) http://www.keurig.ca/support/brewer-registration-and-support/maintenance-and-cleaning

i ran hot water through it a few more times than the recommended amount just to ensure there wasn't a vinegar taste to anything.

  21. I love anything salted caramel.

    ReplyDelete
  22. I keep my sage out and readily available!

    ReplyDelete
  23. Looks like your turkey came out awesome and LOL @ naming your turkey! My favorite is the stuffing...I think it's a great idea to have another reason to eat turkey instead of waiting until Thanksgiving and Christmas which I usually do!

    ReplyDelete
  24. Sounds like you're ready for the new Keurig 2.0 which has been nothing but fabulous! And loooove that you name your turkey, too cute!

    ReplyDelete
  25. Your weekends are always so productive! And TWTW always makes me hungry with all your food prep... I need to get my prepping mojo built up and go hard this upcoming 3 day weekend.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Holy cow you were a cooking machine! Sorry for the spending freeze fails I see in there - nothing worse than a broken coffee maker. Waaa. (not sure what Keurig you had before, but they did recently recall one. Worth a shot.)

    ReplyDelete
  27. Um, I think if you're going to ask any community if they have professional photographers at their events- the blogging one is the one most likely to say yes. lol. Your weekend looks like it was the best blend of productivity & fun. You're awesome to make an entire turkey... I have yet to be confident enough to handle that task. And I really love the picture of your three dogs in different parts of the room sleeping, so cute.

  28. your dogs are seriously so adorable, i want to smush them. love the professional soiree photos, and Horace looks delish! sorry you had to buy a new coffee maker, that blows! thank goodness i dont drink coffee because that would make me MAD.

  29. Oh my gosh, that whole dinner looks so delicious! My Keurig recently crapped out on me too! It's the worst when it happens in the morning. I always wish I had a photographer at our parties because I'm always running around and miss everything. Either that or my pictures just look like crap!

  30. Where's the recipe for these messy salted caramel butter bars? Love the framily photos. Some other friends of mine also had a February Friendsgiving on Saturday night.

  31. All that food on every day looks and sounds soooo good!

I'm going to get 11 hours of sleep next weekend, it's scheduled already. :)

  32. I'm so impressed that you know how to cook a turkey. I don't know if I ever will be able to reach my hand inside and pull out the yucky stuff. I have an issue w/ meat in general and only like to eat it when someone else cooks it. The dinner looks like so much fun. I love the group photo! Oh and the pic of the dogs where Mae has her head on the other dog's back is so sweet!

    ReplyDelete
  33. All that food looks amazing. I am exhausted just thinking about what you did this weekend!

    ReplyDelete
  34. Oh my goodness, that thumbsucker is so precious! What a face! I can practically smell that turkey here. It looks great, as do the candied sweet potatoes...is that what the marshmallow dish is? It looks like you had a great weekend. Cute apron too. :-)

    ReplyDelete
  35. Recipe for those bars...please....as long as it's not hard to follow! Ha!! And hoping your sage makes things better. You guys have had a crappy go around lately...better luck coming your way...I can feel it!

    ReplyDelete
  36. I hope your sage-ing works! I want a salted caramel butter bar REAL bad. That sounds delicious!

    ReplyDelete
  37. All of your food looks delightful! I love how your dogs are spread out throughout the room, like they were too tired to be bothered by each other. And how awesome that you guys are making an effort to get together regularly! I wish my family would do that more often.

    ReplyDelete
  38. I'm telling you all that stuff breaking is because of that damn Mercury. I do solemnly believe in the sage smudging. Hopefully nothing else will break anytime soon!

    ReplyDelete
  39. I like a woman who is not scared to use "(m)otherfucker" in a blog post. We could be friends:)

    ReplyDelete
  40. Wow, I totally admire how much stuff you got done over the weekend, especially food-wise! I only have one day off a week at the moment, so I never want to do anything but veg out, haha. Your dogs are super cute :)

    ReplyDelete
  41. I have a very similar apron. We have excellent taste.

This weekend was a big ol' waste for me, productivity wise. It was all about the cheer. I don't like those kinds of weekends.

  42. I have heard that Bed Bath and Beyond will replace a Keurig that no longer works (even without a receipt). I don't remember where exactly I heard of this, but it is worth looking into!

    ReplyDelete
  43. The Keurig is the one appliance that we vow to replace same-day. No ifs, ands, or buts. Meanwhile, our printer has been splorting ink for months...

    ReplyDelete
  44. I got a Keurig as a wedding gift and use it maybe once a month for hot water. Coffee drinker I am not. haha

I think it's hilarious that you name your turkeys and even more hilarious that this was was "Horace".

    ReplyDelete
  45. I love that you get together once a month! Sometimes I wish my family lived closer! I also think its great you made turkey not on thanksgiving or Christmas- I need to do that once and awhile!

    ReplyDelete
  46. I love that you basically hosted Thanksgiving dinner. I love cooking for Thanksgiving, so much prep but worth it in the end! I also found it funny that you burned sage to cleanse your house. Hopefully it works!

    ReplyDelete
  47. Every time I see pics of the pups I think to myself, "yes, that is what I look like daily." Today is no exception.

Quit breaking stuff. It hinders your ability to stop running around. :-P

  48. I love butter bars! And I love caramel! And salt! TRIFECTA!
