TWTW - the one after Christmas

If you're looking for a Christmas recap, click here.

This weekend was one of general sloth. I didn't wear real clothes or makeup. I didn't leave the house on Friday or Sunday and was only out from 9 - 11:30 on Saturday morning. It was truly glorious. I did things I don't usually do - fell asleep on the couch and didn't get up to get into bed, slept late, gave the dogs lots of lounging with me time, and watched a lot of movies. MFD and I both found this weekend really relaxing and much needed.

What we watched: The last half of the third season of The Wire and the beginning of the fourth. Re-watched Cruel Intentions, Throw Momma From the Train, and Full Metal Jacket. New watches: Divergent - I liked it more than I thought I would and definitely liked Tris more than I liked her in the book, Her - Very weird, and The To-Do List - not too good.
Saturday morning I hit HomeGoods, TJ Maxx, DSW, AC Moore, Michael's, and Marshalls. I strolled leisurely with my iced coffee and picked up new wall stuff to change out kitchen decor, a new fish eye type mirror, two new scarves (the purple and paisley were Christmas gifts, the other two were purchased Saturday), and a new mirrored tray I'm obsessed with.
I removed all Christmas except for the tree, front window display, and exterior. MFD would prefer it all be out forever and I want it all down immediately so we compromised like adults. He's happy because stuff is still out and I'm happy because the surfaces are no longer cluttered with a lot more stuff than is typically out.

I never get why people consider those who remove Christmas decor the day after to be less full of the holiday spirit. It's interesting. Is the spirit of the season in our hearts or is it in the decor we clothe our homes in? I care if someone is kind all year, not how, when, and for how long they decorate their home. If you want it out, keep it up. If you don't, don't. I'm a Sunday after Thanksgiving to day after Christmas person myself.

The rest of the weekend was spent doing glamorous hausfrauing like washing couches/sheets/towels, doing four other loads of laundry, picking up, food prep, minor purging, and being covered with dog hair.

I enjoy Christmas, but I'm always really jazzed as the new year approaches like a big fat unwritten 365 page book I can write as I wish.

I'm back at work today. If you're off this week, I wish you rejuvenation. Of course our holiday season doesn't truly end until after New Year's Day - I mean Mummer's Day. Tomorrow, my look back on 2014.

  1. I followed the same pattern this weekend. I only left the house long enough to go to the grocery store. Lots of cleaning, organizing, etc.
As for the decorations, I wait for the organizing bug to hit me. It usually doesn't start until after New Year's, but I did walk around and pick up all the Santa and nativity decor today.

  2. Sounds like the perfect weekend to recoup after Christmas!!! We took all our decorations down as well and I just love how much space we have now - but I do miss the glow from the tree!! Hope you have a speedy day!! xo, Biana - BlovedBoston

  3. I haven't moved that far from my couch for most of the weekend, luckily I still have 4 days left to get some stuff done. I will hopefully be putting decorations away today and put things back to rights. Hope the day goes quickly.

  4. LOL, I only put up stockings this year, and I was looking at my ILs house thinking, "could there possibly be any more space covered by decor?" Maybe I'll start getting into it as we get settled in our house, but right now I'm a fan of our "minimalism"...

  5. Love sloth weekends. I had a sloth Saturday. Watched reruns of Sex and the City, and then Jurassic Park, and later, we watched A Good Heart (I think that's what it was called) on HBO. I've been noticing fun quote graphics at TJ Maxx lately. Fun. Have a great week.

  6. Sounds like the perfect weekend, I was pretty lazy as well and it felt glorious! And I'm so glad I wasn't the only one totally weirded out by Her... one of the weirdest movies I've ever watched :-P

  7. Sounds like a perfect weekend!!! We didn't do much Saturday or Sunday either as far as leaving the house or wearing pants goes. The dogs look like they enjoyed lounging with you. I love your home finds!!!!!!! I wanted to swing by HomeGoods this weekend and just didn't get around to it.

  8. That sounds like a glorious weekend to me. I really love everything you got on your shopping haul! My two favorite stores! I went to a mall to return some things on Saturday and that was such a mistake. It was so crowded and the lines were awful. I left after two stores!

  9. Uh yeah. I certainly didn't wear real clothes at all this weekend either. Or makeup. Or wash my hair. #keepingitreal

  13. We just got home from our holiday travels last night and I am working today, so I haven't gotten to undecorate from Christmas yet. I don't think you're scroogey! I always like to take down the decorations and go into the new year with a clean slate.

  14. The days after Christmas are for being as lazy as possible. I need to just sleep until I can make myself move again.

  15. Like an unwritten book I can write as a I wish--- LOVING that phrase. I feel the same way about the new year. I enjoy Christmas each year, but I'm never sad when it ends because I'm ready to start fresh!

  18. Love all the goodies you found to decorate your house. As for the decorations, I usually let mine burn in a week or two after Christmas out of pure laziness but either way I don't think it's a big deal if you take it down right away.

  19. We already took our decorations down. Just easier to get it done now.

    I love lazy days.

  20. I'm still trying to convince Dave to let me take down the tree....New Years Eve its going down whether he wants it to or not.

  21. I get so torn as to when to take down Christmas stuff! The house only really feels decorated during Christmas time, and our living room is so cozy. But there is only so long I can trip over garland and vacuum up tree droppings as well!

    1. I go all out with the decor, so I need to get back to uncluttered surfaces ASAP myself! The tree is stationary and pretty, it can stay!

  22. Sounds so good!! Relaxing is always good. We had a 100% veg day on Sunday, and it was nice. We started watching Manhattan...I like it. I think taking down the Christmas is needed before New Year, to start the year on a clean slate...but each their own :)

  23. Growing up we were up after Thanksgiving & down right after Christmas too. I liked Divergent a lot less than I thought I would. I really liked the books & while I know I always like the books better, I thought I'd like the movie more than I did. It was too long & I just couldn't get into it.

  24. I love the Eat Well Travel Often. Was that a Homegoods purchase? also, the only decorating I did this year was putting up nutcrackers and a string of lights and those will be gone tonight. One month is enough for decorations.

  25. I stayed in and relaxed most of the weekend as well. After all the food and "cheer" I was wiped out!

  26. A relaxing, lazy weekend is sometimes exactly what you need. I love all your home purchases, I actually ordered a few décor things for the kitchen during a 4am bout of insomnia! The fisheye mirror is pretty cool!
I wanted to blow up your status on Full Metal Jacket with allllllllll my favorite quotes. Dad is a Marine and I'm pretty sure sat Brie and I down at ages 6 nd 10 to watch it. LOL, it's in our blood, except Brie hates the movie. Hope you're relaxing still.

  27. Glad you had a peaceful Christmas :) Same on this front; my son loved his gifts and last minute decided to bring my oldest niece over, so got her a gift card to spend as she wishes. It was a good holiday - It seems everyone had a nice peaceful holiday which is good. I'm definitely excited for the New Years so bring it on!! Lots of good goals set for 2015 that I've been planning for a month or so now so let's do this! Have a great one Stephanie! -Iva
