There are certain things I'll never cover on this blog, including most things involving children since I don't have them. But I know a lot of you do and that you might like to read about that sometimes. I rely on you, dear readers, to bring me the goods on subjects outside of my purview. I like to share new ideas and causes, products and services I like, and things that work for me on this blog with you. I also really like when you share cool ideas and causes, products and services you like, and things that work for you with me. If you ever have something you'd like to contribute - especially if it's in an area I don't post about often - please email me at lifeaccordingtosteph@gmail.com.
If you're like me, when you hit upon something that makes your life better or easier, you want to tell the world. If you don't have something to share that merits a whole post, don't worry! Send me what you have and I'll either do a collective Reader Tip/Favorite post or I'll put them into my monthly recommendations or a Thursday Thoughts post.
Thanks to Meredith Braunstein for contacting me about putting a fresh face on back to school photos. She had a good idea and wanted to share it, which I love. Sharing is caring, is it not? Here it is:

Every year before throwing my kids in the truck on the first day of school, I prop them up against the same old tree in my front yard. This year I said, "I'm over it, I want to try something different." My kids have not even started school yet. Yes, you heard me, they still have two weeks to go. I was tired of the rushing, the complaining, the same old photo year after year. So I grabbed my camera (you can use any phone, iPad, etc.) and headed to my porch. BOOM! Grab some books, find an apple, a little bribery if need be, and there you go. Have fun!! Be creative, be silly, go to a field, anywhere near you and have the kids be kids. Feel free to email me @ brauner76@gmail.com if you'd like ideas, or even to say, HEY, good job. I'm not a photographer, never was, but I had ideas, that's all you need. I did it, you can too!! - Meredith BraunsteinThis one is my favorite - SMD |

Are you impressed? I am. Thank you, Meredith, for taking a chance and contacting me, and for being willing to share your ideas. I hope it inspires some others to do the same!Did you enter to win $50 to your non-profit charity of choice?
In the words of Bill Watterson, "Weekends don't count unless you spend them doing something completely pointless." So I hope you get a little of that in this weekend.
Enjoy!
Those came out great, so adorable. We don't go back till September but planning has already started.
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad you liked them, I hope your kiddies have a great school year.
DeleteOh , imagine all of the pictures we could have had if we had cameras at our fingertips years ago! Can't say I miss back to school times! Great idea for your blog. Sharing IS caring. Wishing everyone a carefree weekend!!! Love, your Momma
ReplyDeleteOMG how cute are these!! My sister's kids go back next week on Wed...for two days and then have Monday off - it's too funny! xo, Biana -BlovedBoston
ReplyDeleteAww, thank you. :)
DeleteAs you probably saw on FB I did a small first day of school interview and added it to my picture. I want to try to do it every year begining and end until she basically won't answer anymore just to see how the answers change. I think she'll find it interesting as she gets older too.
ReplyDeleteaw what fabulous photos! i obviously don't have kids either, and my mum never took 'back to school' photos for us. i love reading about things like this even when they don't directly relate to me because i just love being nosy and seeing how people make their lives easier.
ReplyDeleteKC is already back at school, thank Zeus. It's so much easier for me when he is on a schedule!
have a good weekend :)
i am totally taking B2S pics of my dog since I don't have kids. i mean, everyone is posting pics of his/her kids, so why not me?
ReplyDeleteI say do it, I'll be taking some of our golden doodle soon. :) thanks for reading.
DeleteI wish I was creative enough to take cool pictures like that of anything! lol
ReplyDeleteIf I can do it, you can too! Thank you for responding to the blog. :)
DeleteI love when people share things with me that tech me a thing or two. I know nothing about getting kids back to school either! but toally down for a dog back to school photo shoot.
ReplyDeleteI totally wish I took photos like that when I was going back to school. Such a nice thing to have. I don't think my Mom ever took back to school photos of us. Boo.
ReplyDeleteI remember my mom always taking pictures of me every 1st day... but now, its a whole other ball game :)
ReplyDeleteI saw a post from a mom that said, "I sent my kid off to school without a picture because I don't own a chalkboard #momfail" haha Made me laugh
kids will be kids for sure...I agree the photos probably come out cuter when they're not staged.
ReplyDeleteI love the idea and the concept but let's face it, when it comes to kid pictures I am a huge underachiever. We're lucky if I can get the child ready for school with enough time to take a picture, never mind setting aside a time for a photo shoot in the days before. So hurried, same pose in front of the same door it is!
ReplyDeleteThose photos are too cute! Growing up in the northeast, I'm always so surprised every year by how early the kids go back to school down here in the south. We didn't go back to school up there until Labor Day :-P
ReplyDeleteHappy Friday! <3
Aww these pictures are adorable - love the inclusion of the apples!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much. :)
DeleteLove the apple & chalkboard. Since I can never count on my son to want his picture taken when I want to take them (i.e., the first day of school) and since I don't want to be rushed the first day of school, I plan to take something the weekend before with no props, but in front of the white garage door. That was my trick for taking Halloween photos as well. Do it before trick or treating begins (and when it's still light out).
ReplyDeleteIt was so much easier this year, you do not need any props. :) your idea sounds great. Thanks for reading...
DeleteWhat cute pictures!!!! All my nieces and nephews started back to school late last week and they are all so cute in their first day pictures! I know my sister and I have a few pictures throughout the years that I totally need to dig back up! I love how creative everyone gets now with the chalkboards and stuff saying what year it is because we have to guess with ours!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much. :)
DeleteI am noticing a lot of back to school posts, but I love them! Your photos are lovely, and good luck on their first day of school!
