Thursday Thoughts - filter this

Worrying when I see people post pictures with snapchat or other filters and people are like omg you're/she's beautiful and they're all thank you like it's an accurate portrayal. Wait - do people think they actually look like that? This is why I'm anti-filter. I don't want you to see me in person and be afraid because I don't look like a smudged out mannequin with eyes that are alive with alien intelligence as I have portrayed online. As a rule, I do not use filters, so unless you see a hashtag from me like #iusedafuckingfilter, it is safe to assume nothing you see from me has a filter on it. Also, everyone: you look great as you are. Women in real life are glorious.

Watching I can honestly say right now I don't watch anything and haven't for quite some time. Is this how fading into booknerd oblivion starts? When you have no common knowledge of current movies or TV?
Asking you to click on this link and click to vote once a day every day for the executive director of Covenant House Pennsylvania. I have met him and heard him speak multiple times. He does really excellent, important work. Please share it as well - if he wins, Covenant House gets a $50,000 donation and those kids could really use it.

Taking advantage of the Kindle First program, where you can choose a free e-read on the first of every month. This month I picked The Heart Echoes by Helena von Zweigbergk. It's a translation, and sometimes my brain rejects them, but I'll give it a shot.

Choosing my Book of the Month Club book on the first of the month  - this month I chose The Blinds because it sounded like a good mix of the Wayward Pines trilogy, The Never Open Desert Diner, and another book I can't recall the title of right now.

Reading The latest in the Kate Burkholder series. Well, I finished it at 11:40 last night. Show Us Your Books is Tuesday!
Awwing over Geege stuffed like a sausage in this little bed.

Pulling my dogs in a motherfucking wagon. What? Geege's stroller is no more. This is sturdier, can fit all three, and can cart all of my shit to the beach when the dogs aren't in it. And it folds up nice nice to store down the shore.
Finding  Bill Browder's Senate Judiciary Committee Hearing testimony buried under Mooch stuff and the ludicrous transgender serving ban. Browder describes a Russian system of government that operates in the shadows using corruption, blackmail, torture, and murder, all led by Putin, and the moment you enter their world, you become theirs. I think almost everyone in the trump admin has entered their world.

Lacking the strength to get into legal immigration today. I'll just say I'm with her. I find I can usually say that except when the her is Ann Coulter or Tomi Lahren or Martina White.

Reclaiming my time. You guys know I don't like gifs, so for me to post one, you have to know I love it. Freaking Maxine Waters, I continue to love you.

  1. I do like looking at my self with mascara and eyebrows and a bit of eyeliner, but I agree on the beauty thing. Rich worked with a guy from Russia and he said people just disappear. Aw on our Geege. Snug as a big in a rug. Pop uses his wagon all the time. You should teach a speed reading course. You would be better than Evelyn Wood. Love and lights to all❣️❣️❣️ Love. Your. Momma.

  2. And I'm voting and forwarding to others to vote for the Covenant House guy❣️

  3. I'm the same with filters when it comes to self portraits - no filter because i'm too lazy to find one and well, I just DGAF what others think LOL

  4. No to the filters. I can't stand snapchat for that reason. And Emma Lazarus rocks. Had to memorize that in high school and it's still fresh in my mind, now more than ever.

  5. That filter link is freaky... It makes everyone long-faced aliens without freckles. Not ok.
I love the dog wagon :)
I just (finally) picked up The Handmaid's Tale yesterday. And it's as terrifying as everyone says it is.

  6. Been there done that with the laundry, the worst!

  7. hahaha I love them in the wagon! Hawkeye is obsessed with the stroller. My mom has it for her maltese but we meet up with them on the jogging trail and Hawkeye runs to them and launches herself into the stroller. It's hilarious.

  8. Our dryer broke and we're in the middle of getting a new one delivered. I have thought more than once about throwing everything in the laundry room away and starting fresh with a new dryer! haha

  9. I voted! And I love that McSweeney's thing - checking twitter is a full time job now. I love summer because my husband is content to watch baseball and I can read all night with no guilt.

  10. So, while agree with your take on misleading filters, I am inclined to say... WHY can't my real-life makeup and application skills be as awesome as some of those filters???! Also, I NEED that wagon, where would I find one?

    1. It's awesome. I got it from Bed, Bath, & Beyond and used a 20% off coupon!

    2. I'm on a mission to get one today! This will change our lives (Lmao, Bubba escapes from the little red wagon; even as an old man, he's spry some days)!!! Thanks!

  11. HA, that e-card... I have definitely considered throwing away dirty laundry instead of dealing with it ;-)

I have never used a filter. I don't even have the app. Some of them are just creepy... like that deer one. What is that all about?!

  12. That's the same cart we pull our little blind boy Bruno around in. We lay a dog bed on the bottom & he's happy as can be. He can ride all day long. We take him for 'walks' a few times a week now since he loves just sitting & sniffing the air.

  13. I am not a fan of filters either. It just further messes with our f-upped standards around beauty. Love the wagon for the pugs. I really wish Browder had more of a splash because what he said is so important. But with this crap administration, there is so much noise that even really important stuff can get overshadowed by stupid things, like the Mooch. I am less tempted to throw out clothes than I am to buy new clothes to avoid laundry.

  14. The PUGWAGON. I love it.
    Voted again!
The Wayward Pines trilogy is on my ever-growing list. Also I had no idea that Fredrik Backman's books were translated (comment above!), but I am listening to Britt-Marie was here and I adore it. I needed some quirky and less murdery for a bit and it totally filled that gap!

  15. THANK YOU for sharing that McSweeney's article. I've never been on that website, but I've spent most of my lunch time giggling out loud. I've done many blue apron and hello fresh meals but only because I'm too lazy to seek out some of those spices or veggies and then I end up wasting what is left over. My goal is to meal plan better once fall comes and take some of your tricks and apply them. Also, I'll set a daily reminder to vote!

  16. I just joined BOTM. For August I selected Fierce Kingdom. Granted, I have so many books to read, the last thing I need is more, but I can't resist.

  17. I voted! I got All The Little Children for my kindle first book but that was my second choice, I can't wait to hear about it! Ugh to that Bill Browder testimony, this whole ting is scaring me more and more and we keep getting "Oh wait, look over here" just like the Russians wanted. This is why they wanted Trump in office! Ugh Blue Apron, do not get me started on how nasty my experience with it was. I am having a week like that mcsweeney's describes...phoning it in a bit for a food blogger.

  18. Hysterical that we both ranted about photo filters this week. And yes, you're so right, it annoys me when someone clearly used the Snapchat "pretty filter" and you see comments on social media telling them how amazing they look. Is it true? Sure! They look great! But is that what they look like? Noooo!

    Maxine Waters IS. A. BOSS.

I live for your little pups in their wagon <3

  19. Ha loving the pup squeezed in the bed! I think I may need to get something like a wagon for one of mine, he has a handicapped leg and can't handle long walks but the other one needs them or she's so full of energy. Such a struggle! A wagon would help.

  20. Amen to no filters! The wagon, by the way, is cute!

  21. I'm in for voting for Covenant House.... and for no filters. Stupid.

  22. Honest to God my favorite Snapchat filter is the pig. They can keep the hippie flower-crown one. Pig 4 life.

  23. Voted for the director of Covenant House!

  24. I hate Snapchat filters with a burning passion. If I wanted to see you as a puppy or whatever, I'd join Snapchat. I do use SOME filters (usually for brightness/light), but had no idea there was an app to make you poreless or perfect, but those who use it look like aliens. No one is perfect- cut that out. Thanks for the Kindle First reminder! Also, my friend actually brought that wagon to cart shit to the beach last week, and it's awesome. I love the fact that's it's collapse-able to store when not in use.

  25. 'eyes that are alive with alien intelligence' hahahahaha. i use filters to like, brighten things up.. or i don't use filters actually, just the brightness thingys. but i don't change the way i look, in my opinion. because that would be creepy. that wagon is amazing.

  26. For my free August book I chose The Judgment of Richard Richter... hope it's good!

    ReplyDelete
  27. Voted! I also don't get the filters, in my opinion they look freaky-mannequin-plastic and not 'good'. I will change saturation and whatnot to make things brighter and clearer, but I won't change the shape of my face. 1. why and 2. how?? Other than snapchat filters which I believe belong inside snapchat and nowhere else.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Yes the kindle program is my jam... well I only chose one book so far as I only found out this month but so glad I did.

Also, agreed with filters. And the blurring in general has got to stop. I edit pics / brighten, colour etc but never ever touch my face. I don't even know how to get a snapchat filter if we're being completely honest. No need.
