Spring Goals - How Did I Do?

1. Raise money for March for Babies for the March of Dimes. I raised $175 and team Eva the Diva as a whole raised over $2100 to support March of Dimes research and programs that help moms have full-term pregnancies and babies begin healthy lives. Thank you so much to my donors: Mom, Mare, Sister Arleen, and Heather!

2. Further pare down my wardrobe when I switch over my summer and winter clothes. There are a ton of shoes that must go. Dunzo. I donated three bags of clothes and shoes to Goodwill and a few boxes of other items.

3. When Lent is over and I've completed my 46 days in a row of 40 minutes of exercise or more a day, formulate another plan and stick to it. Done. I've been doing weights Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and walking two other days. I'm also cognizant of being more active in general on the weekends although those are typically active rest days. Now it's just something I do. I'm happy with it and feeling stronger and healthier. Slow and steady.

4. Pantry and freezer clean out - use or toss. The time is now. I worked on this throughout May. The first week in June was my last cleanout week.

5. Canoe. Done on Memorial Day weekend. Thanks Jack!
6. Yard and flower bed cleanup and flowerbed planting. Done, although I did a shitty job on the yard cleanup.

7. Check out the Before I Die Board on Broad Street. I walked down there but it's no longer there. So fail but good try.

8. Try two new restaurants. The Kite and the Key on April 29. Tacconelli's on March 22.

9. Go strawberry picking. I think this is on my list every year. I never do it. Fail.

10. Spend the morning in New Hope. I ran out of time for this one too. Fail.

Did you set spring goals? How did you do?

Summer Goals

Hello & happy Friday mon frers. Well, another season is upon us. Summer 2015 officially begins on Sunday. You know I do my seasonal goals - check back tomorrow for how I did on my spring goals - so you may have expected to see these today. I'm predictable, I know. I like it that way. My summer 2015 goals:

1. Make homemade cinnamon ice cream.

2. Have dinner at Tallulah's Garden and Vetri.

3. Have lunch at Pizzeria Vetri.

4. Read an Agatha Christie Hercule Poirot book.

5. Purge and organize: utility closet.

7. Visit The Clay Studio.

8. Conquer fears: cook on the grill and swim in the lake.

9. Increase weights and maintain exercise schedule.

10. Watch a sunrise and sunset in a beach town in the same day.

Happy happy birthday to my mom today! Love you Dalai Momma! And happy birthday to my cousin Ashley as well!
On a serious note, I wish for peace for the families of the Charleston victims, as well as the AME church community and the community at large. Hell, I wish for peace for all of us. We'll only get there if we can meet in the middle and stop being so ignorant and violent and cruel to each other. On the national scene and in my Facebook news feed, when a black person commits a crime it's described as animal behavior and there is rage and ideas that their actions are the reason people are rascist. When a white person commits a crime, they are described as mentally ill and we're sad about it or possibly worse - we're silent about it. Even though the motherfucker in this case was clearly a rascist and in fact killed those poor people because of the color of their skin. Judging by the lack of commentary I've seen on it, people must be largely okay with that. And that is fucked up. It is past time to have an honest discussion about race in this country. And God be with us all through that.

Now back to BSing...what's on your summer to do list?

Currently - June

Observing...One of my cardinal rules of ownership and organization: one in, one out. In the past week I've gotten two new pairs of sneakers. Both pink. I got rid of two old pairs of sneakers. Both blue. Symmetry.

Organizing...undergarments and socks. I have too many of both and that shit must go. How great is Amazon Prime same day delivery? I ordered these yesterday at 10 a.m. and they were there when I got home. Boom.

In search of...comfortable cotton capri pajama pants. Anyone? Bueller? Hook a sister up if you love a pair/brand. I got a pair from Target this spring and I like them but I don't love them.

Wearing...Dresses. This heat & humidity is not my type of weather.

Nodding my head at...this. You go ahead and be miserable if you want to be, but don't expect the rest of the world to sit around and listen or care. I've aged out of wasting my breath on people who are miserable as a way of life.
Sadly identifying with...From Monday to Wednesday my nails were questionable. I feel awful when my nails look bad.

Loving...that we're setting up a mini in-home gym in the basement. First, it makes my heart sing to see unused space re-purposed. Second, I hate going to the gym. The last thing I want to do when I get home is go out again. I did it for a while and the nights were like five minutes long. I need to lift weights so I don't look like the hunchback of Notre Dame or am unable to lift myself off the toilet when I'm a real old lady. My weights are currently upstairs willy nilly and we all know how much I hate willy nilly living.

Hating...some of my fellow commuters. Humidity makes a lot of these people even assier and more unbearable than they are normally. Sometimes the train car is like Lord of the Flies. Civilization breaking down, man's true nature revealed, and all that shit. \

Wanting...to eat soft ice cream every day in the summer and for it to be zero calories and packed with antioxidants and other good for you things. That's not to much to ask for, right?

Counting down...to vacation. One week from now and it'll be my last day before 10 consecutive days off.

Laughing at...

What's going on with you?

Shit MFD Said Vol 19

Unpacking the new weed whacker
MFD: For once there is cardboard in the house from a purchase you did not partake in. Who would have thought that was a possibility?
Me: Is that a comment on my Amazon Prime usage?
MFD: I think so.

Thermostat Wars: Summer Edition
Me: You do realize that the house is now colder right now than it is in the winter when you complain about me keeping the heat too low, right?
MFD: Let me tell you, it's not...because I'm sweating and clammy. I'm not clammy in the winter.
Me: No. On the thermostat it's the same. What do you have to say about that?
MFD: I'm clammy. The air is staying on low.

Holding up his much loved/worn Eagles hoodie that I hate
Mfd: Steph. I'm throwing this out.
Me: breaking into a huge grin
MFD: PSYCH! You were so excited. Why would you think I would throw this out?
Me. Because it's gross and you've worn it 470 million times. Who even says psych anymore?
Mfd: Psych! I do.

MFD: That cotton soap upstairs is awesome.
Me: Mmm.
MFD: This turkey with coleman's mustard is awesome.
Me: Your life is just awesome right now, isn't it?
MFD: Aside from a parking brake issue, yes.

MFD: Stephanie, when are you going to make Nutella, peanut butter, and banana snacks?
Me: We don't have any Nutella.
MFD: We do. I hid some.
Me: You did not. I threw it out.

Me: I want to go out to breakfast.
MFD: Not until vacation. You know what my breakfast consists of every day?
Me: Boring tears?
MFD: A shake.
Me: Boring tears.

How we buy cars:

MFD: I'm so pissed off we didn't get to see Taylor Swift.
Me: Really?

Veggie Pizzas

I'm all about the easy cold app in the summer. These veggie pizzas have an element of cooking, but it's small so they count. I originally got this recipe from Carol I think. My aunt Sue makes them too and they are always a favorite.

Ingredients (can be doubled, tripled etc. for a party)
1 pkg crescent rolls
1 8 oz light cream cheese, softened
1/3C mayo
½ tsp dill weed
1 tsp garlic powder
½ tsp minced onion
Finely shredded cheese
Fresh broccoli, grape tomatoes, bell pepper.

Directions
Grease 9x13 baking sheet or use a non-stick sheet. Unroll crescent dough and pat down on sheet. Follow directions so they're just lightly browned on top (it's about 9 and a half minutes in my oven). Set aside to cool.

In bowl, mix cream cheese, mayo, and spices. Beat until smooth and spread over cooled dough.
Top with minced veggie toppings and shredded cheese. Cut with a pizza cutter.

Refrigerate at least 2 hours or overnight. Other veggies may be added or substituted - I've used purple cabbage, carrots, green onions, etc. in the past.

Haikuesday
Summer - humid. Hot.
Appetizers should be cold.
Like my cold dark heart.
