TWTW - the one with the thanksgiving

There's not a damn thing like a five day weekend filled with turkey sandwiches, peace, and family.

Wednesday morning I changed sheets, finished packing, did some general lollygagging, then headed up to Lori & Jack's. Debbie arrived shortly after me. Lots of outside time for dogs and relaxing. We also pre-empted Thanksgiving and had turkey breast sandwiches which was an awesome call on Lori's part.
Thanksgiving morning started my favorite way - with a walk. A false start, as it turns out, because Mae sucks at long walks and had to be dropped back off at the house before we crossed the creek where we encountered bear poop. The answer to does a bear shit in the woods is yes....close to the house, too.
We had the delectable bacon sugar butter toast and I did some online shopping, purchasing this wrap from Modcloth.
I debuted my new pug leggings on Thanksgiving. LulaRoe scores again. Perry, Maria, and Ashley arrived, we stuffed our faces multiple times, and I was sleeping by 9 p.m. Perfect balance of a day.
Black Friday started with a walk in the woods, just how I prefer it to start.
We spent the rest of the day talking about poop, farts, and laughing all the way through a small business shopping day. We all wanted this dog. Speaking of, Gus ripped my ear and my uncle insisted I had rabies and told the world I had rabies and between that and not being able to get the back seat up, I almost wet my pants laughing outside of a Dandy.
Friday afternoon we pulled in and I was ready to pack my car up to head home in the morning, only MFD surprised me by showing up and we ended up staying until Sunday morning at 7.
Saturday Maria and Ashley headed home; Jack and Perry helped out a neighbor farmer; and Lori, Debbie, MFD, and I patronized small businesses, attempted the epic fart of the Troy hometown Christmas, and had lunch out. Those of us left reconvened at home to watch college football, make fun of each other, read, and lounge. We were all spent, especially the dogs, except for Mae...she was busy fangirling over her spirit animal, Dots the cat.
Sunday morning's drive home was a breeze, we left at 6:45 and got home before 9:30. I did laundry, pulled my Christmas stuff out and realized I hated all of it, finished a book, and waited for MFD to get home. I was going to make dinner but we ate at Boston Market before hitting Marshalls to buy new Christmas shit. We came home and sort of decorated, but I move stuff around for a while so that'll happen this week. As in this picture below is already false - I always initially clutter up the entertainment center then move a bunch of shit off. My ceramic trees have not been unleashed and the tree, outside, and front window haven't been done yet either. So basically there's shit all over the house that may or may not stay out. Ho ho ho mofos!
Weekly food prep is egg muffins with green onions and cheese for breakfasts and a beef noodle soup for lunches. Dinners will be baked chicken with roasted sweet potatoes and either brussels sprouts or broccoli & cauliflower.

I adore the long Thanksgiving weekend. How was yours?

TWTW - the one in North Woods

Did you ever drive somewhere at night and it was so dark out it was like a void? After work on Friday Debbie and I headed up to Lori & Jack's. Lots of nonsense traffic, black as night, Mae would not stay in the back, we missed a turn and had to pull a u-ie near a haunted house, and a dog crapped a huge messy crap in the back seat. Standard Friday night.

Saturday included a long, lovely woods walks with the dogs minus Mae - Mae don't play in the cold. She stayed behind with Debbie and Jack to fangirl over the cats.
Saturday also included my favorite of Jack's breakfasts, and I love them all: bacon sugar butter toast. I cannot even describe how awesome it is. Lori, Debbie, and I hit the Dandy and a few local shops, I caught up on magazines and painted my nails, we relaxed and had a beer (I like big butts and I cannot lie), ate Lori's delicious lasagna, and watched HGTV. It was a wonderfully relaxing day.
Sunday morning we headed out for breakfast, then stopped by a scenic overlook where the Warrior Path is. An Indian path, the Warrior Path ran from New York to the Catawba country in the Carolinas. This part of the Warrior Path is next to the Susquehannah River along Route 6 in Wyalusing. It's still dead looking out there, but it felt like spring and we saw a turkey vulture. They don't come back until it's warm. Good sign.
Back at the house we took the dogs on a walk along the creek and Mae got to see both of her beloved cats up close. This is her and Dots/Todd. The dogs were totally exhausted on the way home so no shitting in the car. Thank the Lord.
I went to Target and ShopRite on Sunday afternoon, then to shake that fresh hell from my mind I drove home with the sunroof open blaring Quiet Riot and Wham. Very current, I know. I swore I wasn't going to do food prep, but I did make egg muffins with green onion and cheese for breakfasts; brown rice, poop soup, and baked sweet potatoes for the dogs; and grilled pork chops with veggies for dinner. Other dinners are leftovers and Jenn's baked tacos. Lunches are a little hodge podge-y: soup from the freezer, leftover spaghetti and Lori's lasagna, salad. Snacks are bananas, cucumbers, celery and peanut butter, and Cadbury Creme Eggs. Tis the season, mofos.

We always have an awesome time at Lori & Jack's, and the dogs sleep hard all night and even into the next day. It allows me to eat in peace and pick up around the house without tripping over dogs.

Leap year Leap Day. Monday. Let's hope it's lucky. Is that a thing? Lucky Leap Day? It should be.

TWTW - Thanksgiving

1. Wednesday MFD and I loaded up the dogs and headed north for the weekend. It was a bit of a white knuckler in some spots but we made it to Lori & Jack's by 10:30. Relaxing ensued. Sorry for double ups of any instagram pics from this weekend!
2. Scenes from Thanksgiving...we ate, we walked in the woods, we lounged, we watched football. It was a great day!
3. Friday we set out to patronize small businesses on our annual made up sleigh ride. The car ride was a riot full of laughter and cursing as always. We also saw Lori & Jack's new lake house. Another full, fun day.
4. Saturday MFD, Maria and Ashley headed home in the early afternoon. Lori & I took the dogs for a walk in the woods, then we headed out with Jack & Perry to do some Small Business Saturday shopping and rounded out the night with the hallowed Chinese buffet.
5. Scenes from the great outdoors...
6. Lots o' lounging...
7. Wildlife sightings included lots of deer and a bird Jack saved.
8. Mae found a new friend - Popcorn the indoor outdoor cat. To say she was obsessed with him is an understatement.
9. But as always, it's a huge dog Disney.
10. Sunday the dogs and I hit the road by 7 and were home by 10. I enjoyed the scenic ride as always and listened to Serial on the way home. Laundry, Christmas decorating part one, and some vacation packing planning took up most of the afternoon. MFD and I hit Marshalls and Sam's at night, had an easy dinner of pizza, and that's all she wrote. The best thing of the weekend - Lori handed down her Kitchenaid to me. I'm so freaking excited!

On Mondays I'm doing a picture linkup called Picture Practice with Kelli at Just Beachy. If you'd like to participate, here are the prompts through December. Share on your blog, or if you don't blog on Twitter or Instagram every Monday with the hashtag #PicturePractice. This is my photo for the prompt warmth. You all need this Land's End jacket.
I almost wet my pants laughing quite a few times this weekend. That's how it goes in my family.

Zillions of good thoughts to my friend Marla at Luck Fupus today as she undergoes surgery. Marla kicks ass.
Last week before vacation. I think I can I think I can.

Tell me about your long Thanksgiving weekend - what was your peak and what was your pit?

the weekend getaway that was

Diary of a mad hausfrau: MFD had a listing appointment so I was able to change the sheets, clean both baths and the kitchen, put laundry away, empty the dishwasher, sort the mail and vacuum the entire house. I love coming home from a weekend away to a clean abode. As you can see above, los perros were anxious to leave so as soon as MFD got home on Friday we were gone with the wind.

+

We hit bad weather and had a bit of a harrowing drive, finally arriving at Lori & Jack's close to 11.
The dogs were ecstatic, and we were happy to have a weekend of relaxing ahead of us.

+

Geege was up most of the night. He was too excited to sleep.
We were up for good early on Saturday, which required a lot of coffee.
I didn't mind being up early since it was Lori's birthday and we had a lot to get in!
Excuse the schizophrenic photo frames in this post.
Variety is the spice of life? Yes. That's the ticket.

+

A damp but invigorating walk in the woods. Lots of dogs scampering and fall foliage.
My boys were on the go with Max, Lori's youngest puppy.
Check out Darby, who's blind and will be 15 in December. She was out there
trucking along over the river and through the woods with the rest of the pack. Miracle dog!

+

A quick jaunt into LeRaysville to The Cheese Factory.

+

The LeRaysville Market. I'd never been there and was bowled over by their selection and prices.

+

A stop at the Dandy is a must. I love the coffeepots.

+

Enjoying the great outdoors

Excuse my fuzzy deer
+

I was showered and in my pajamas by 2 pm. It was fabulous. We feasted on a snack food spread,  watched a bunch of college football and had a blissful doze.

+

Steaks on the grill, twice baked stuffed potatoes, steamed broccoli, red wine and cake from The Flying Cow Bakery. Happy birthday Lori!

Dates from Hell on ID Channel

+

I'd like to have coffee like this every day.

+

Sunny Sunday woods walk

+

One of Jack's big breakfasts.
True fact: I only eat pancakes at Lori & Jack's.

+

A seamless two hour and 45 minute ride home with some very tired dogs and some
glorious fall foliage views. And of course the requisite MFD photo in Meshoppen.

+

Enchiladas for dinner. Ole!
I sauteed some chicken and onions, added a bit of sour cream, enchilada sauce,
cumin, garlic powder and some Tastefully Simple fiesta mix.
I plopped some of that in the middle of whole wheat tortillas, grated some cheese on top, poured
enchilada sauce over them, added some more grated cheese on top, and baked at 400 for 20 minutes.

the weekend that was

What a wonderful weekend. I love going to Lori & Jack's, and it was even better this time because it was Lori's birthday and I got to spend it with her. I was so relaxed that I couldn't even bring myself to do the mountain of laundry that's currently in the basement.

Toodleoo, tootsies. Happy Monday.

I'm linking up with Sami's ShenanigansFive30Three, and Join the Gossip for the weekend update - check them out!
