Crawling towards the spring line

No matter how I try to set up my Februarys, every year without fail by the middle of the month I feel like a rat in a cage.

February is the opening of lines of You Can Call Me Al.
A man walks down the street
He says, "Why am I soft in the middle now?
Why am I soft in the middle?
The rest of my life is so hard
I need a photo opportunity
I want a shot at redemption
Don't want to end up a cartoon
In a cartoon graveyard"
Bonedigger, bonedigger
Dogs in the moonlight
Far away my well-lit door
Mr. Beerbelly, Beerbelly
Get these mutts away from me
You know I don't find this stuff
Amusing anymore

I feel like I'm ready to burst or run screaming through the streets or let my crazy out in front of god and everybody.

Aside from the lack of light and black ice, I don't even dislike winter. I think it's just that by the end of February I'm looking for the rebirth of the world around me. I want to feel the sun on my skin, walk barefoot outside, be outside for longer periods of time, not wear a heavy jacket, bare my ankles to the air, all that jazz. I want to go back to the shore.

That's where I am today, and I'm just stopping in here to give you this sugar to add to your coffee because there's nothing worse than when people act like there’s always sunshine in their soul. There’s not and sometimes I’m a troll for no world changing reason.

I'm dreaming of the day I will arrive on spring's doorstep, fall down to the ground weak and battered by February's bullshit, ready to be healed slowly by the fresh, new air.

It's coming. 31 days. We’re gonna make it.

  1. Hoping some warmth comes your way soon! I can imagine the stir crazy feeling and just wanting to enjoy outside without being bundled up. Emily @ Martinis & Bikinis

  2. Call me Al is music for my soul.

It got warm here yesterday and I could move around my house and do things without wanting to crawl back under a blanket. That was my win. lol.

  3. We got a taste of warmer weather this week but it came with a shit ton of rain and gloom so it wasn't to be enjoyed. I love winter, but even I am looking forward to some outdoor play! Hope you have a good weekend!

  4. Life is not all sunshine, thank you for being real. I'm with you, friend. So ready for warm sunshine.

  5. After temps in the 70s yesterday, I'm definitely itching for Spring too. Also, that statue is also down here at National Harbor--didn't realize it was elsewhere too!

  6. Amen.. I am the same way - winter doesnt kill me so much as THIS time of winter. Give me the spring allergies at this point - looking forward to them (& remind me I said that when I'm complaining about them)

  7. That song reminds me of 4th grade. Driving to school with my dad & brother Graceland was in the tape deck (ha!) the whole year and that my our favorite song.
February is always a grim month for me because tax season. :-/
    We'll get there! (I hope).

  8. Oh that song, I love it, such a oldie and goodie. I cannot imagine having real winter, just the two weeks here give me that feeling. It's coming, and I hope soon for you. Enjoy your weekend.

  9. I feel you. We are actually having warm temps now but every damn day it's gray and about every other day it pours rain. Ugh... sick of it, so dreary. On the other hand it has been excellent hibernation weather. It's coming, keep the faith!!

  10. I love the winter and rain, but the days are getting longer and we haven't had rain all week, and I'm definitely feeling a lift in my mood.

  11. I feel like we are in the homestretch now and I am thrilled about it. So, so ready for light in the evenings and spending all day outside and GREEN!

  12. By February, I've had enough of winter and long for spring...

  13. I think the comparison of February to the opening lines of "You Can Call Me Al" may be one of my favorite things I've read all week.

  14. When those daffodils start popping up but you know they're going to freeze again, I feel ready. Those last freezes are the worst... waiting, waiting, waiting... and sending the daffs a good wish to survive.

  15. I was convinced that we were going to start getting warmer days and sunshine, but then I woke up to a smattering of snow outside. Which I am not too upset about because we didn't really get any snow at all this year... but I would have preferred it in December.

  16. Are you in for some warm weather at the start of this week? We are. Despite being a winter person, I'm kind of looking forward to it.
Hope you had a good weekend!
