Things you don't need to know about me

Sometimes I make meals or components of meals simply to have a vehicle for ketchup.

I was named after my dad. So was my brother. There has been a lot of mail confusion in our lives.

I don't own any jeans right now because I don't like jeans. I do own jeggings, but they don't count.

I'm not afraid of flying or heights or many things when you get down to it, but I do not like to be in enclosed spaces and I prefer people don't stand right on top of me. Also, I fear driving in cars with balloons. They are silent creepers. Not cool.

I am an unapologetic song changer but will listen to certain songs many times in a row depending on my mood.

I am a rule follower.

If someone speaks to me (or types to me) in a patronizing manner, that is like pushing my nuclear button. There is no stopping what comes next.

The wedding band I'm wearing right now is a $37 diamonique special from QVC. I don't remember to put it on every day and I change bands on a whim. I only wear my engagement ring two or three times a year. It's lovely, but I'm not a ring person.

I use sour cream instead of ricotta in baked ziti.

I only read one book at a time. If I bounce between two reading is not the immersive experience I prefer it to be.

I have never listened to a book and I have zero plans to in the future.

I'm not good with directions and have to think really hard about how to get places even in the town I grew up in.

I count steps when I walk up or down stairs unless I'm talking to someone.

If you see me and my nails aren't painted, you've basically spotted a unicorn.

I am overly concerned about and critical of the windshield wipers in any car I've ever driven.

I started kicking this post around in a draft when I read I hear voices when I read (and other weird shit about me) from Jana, so thank you my friend for the inspo. And, as discussed, I failed my driving road test three times.

  2. We are so similar! The nail polish thing for sure and I'm definitely a song changer and a rule follower. :) This is a clever post idea!

  3. This is fun! I painted my nails last night for the first time in months. Why sour cream and not ricotta?I never realized y'all were Stephen and Stephanie until you said something. You must have gotten called the wrong name a lot as a kid...

  4. I listen to songs on repeat all the time and while I do own many jeans...I hate them and wish it was acceptable to wear yoga pants all the time...

  5. I'm guilty of killing songs because I play them over and over. And I'm certainly a rule follower as well. And I totally count steps too! These posts are always fun :)

  6. Directions are HARD. I get lost going everywhere and can generally only go one route. Changing it up causes major problems.

I hate driving with balloons. I've done it more times than I can count but I hate it every single time.

  7. I have never given deep thought to riding in cars with balloons but now that I have, I completely agree with you.

  8. I love that picture. #savedtomyphone #uploadtosnapfish I will never forget Gamma saying if I had a girl I could name her Stephanie Michelle while I was just dating your father. Cleaning and Alexa-ing this morning ❣️ And savoring all of it. Thanks to the universe for our wonderful and safe and sound all the way around lives. I just typed what popped into my head. 9. Jmj. All my emojis don't show up here. Well they were Angels. Statue of Liberty. All good stuff.

  10. I haven't worn my rings since I was pregnant. Knuckles grew, they couldn't fit so I stopped....8yrs later, I still don't wear them even though my fingers have gone back to normal #lazy.

  11. I count steps too... usually 13 steps on average on a level ;)
The nail thing / unicorn - made me laugh.

  12. I'm like you in so many ways--I can't read more than one book at a time, I'm a rule follower and I dislike ricotta cheese in general, but also in lasagna (never thought to sub in sour cream though). I thought you'd be more fearful of driving with paint than with balloons hahahah too soon?? :)

  13. Love this! I'm one of those people who has obscure little weird habits and "Ali-isms" (as I refer to them). Normal people are boring!

  14. I count steps when climbing stairs too. It makes me feel super neurotic haha I have a friend that uses sour cream in ziti. It's worth it!

  15. Balloons in a car is a nightmare, I lol'ed and shuddered! OOh I am going to try sour cream in ziti!

  16. I've done two of these posts (with almost the exact same title as yours, haha!) and they are my favorite!!!
Ditto on never having listened to a book and never planning on it and also I prefer to read one book at a time, but if I'm reading a physical book, I have to also read an eBook so I can read while I'm at the gym. If I can't read while I'm on a machine, I can't do it.
And spotting me WITH painted nails is like spotting a unicorn!!! Haha.

  17. Jeans are becoming less and less functional in my closet as well...

  18. I tried listening to a book once and I didn't like it at all, but I do love podcasts and talk radio. Also, I'm a huge rule follower - breaking rules makes me so uncomfortable (unless it's the speed limit.) The only thing I total disagree on is the one book at a time. I almost always have multiple books happening, but one is usually a non fiction of sorts that is easier to take in little by little.

  19. I can't read two books at once either. It confuses me. :D And I have never listened to a book on audio. I feel like I'd need to do something besides listening, which defeats of the purpose of reading. I am terrible with directions. My friends always know that I will get lost but that is part of the adventure!

  20. Fellow rule follower here! I have never listened to an audio book either... why?!

    ReplyDelete
  21. I tried listening to an audio book, twice actually, but kept getting distracted. I'm also directionally challenged and knowing this, I give myself at least an extra half hour to get anywhere. I've never really thought about balloon creepers or windshield wipers in/on cars- hahaha. I need to try using sour cream in baked ziti, as I almost always wind up wasting half of the ricotta since I don't use it for anything else.

  22. I'm not a fan of jeans either, and wear them very rarely. I also hate enclosed spaces and people who don't observe my bubble :-P

  23. The distrust of balloons in a car cracks me up. Also, I'm a rule follower, too. Definitely not a crowd follower, but I stay off the grass and completely stop at stop signs.
I definitely need to try sour cream in lasagna! I dislike that dish because of the ricotta! I bet I'd like that. And I'm a step counter, too. It weirds K out that I know how many steps are in our house, my parents house, and the house I grew up in...

  24. I had to rent a car for a work trip this week, and when I dropped it off and told the Enterprise guy I needed a ride home. He asked me how to get there. I struggled to describe the road names he would have to take to get me home even though it was 3 miles and I've lived here for all of my 28 years. I'm more of a "go past the mall, turn right at the Sunoco, and then drive past the church and make a left" type of person, as opposed to technical street/route names.

  25. I tried one audiobook and hated it. You aren't missing anything. I haven't met a meal that I couldn't put ketchup on!

  26. I used to be a ketchup fanatic but now the bottle in our fridge really gets used. I just realized that. I can imagine the mix up in the mail with similar names. Several friends have told me the same when they're named after their parents. I especially feel bad for people that I know named Richard Smith or John Adams...that's just an identity theft crisis waiting to happen.

  27. I count when I'm going up and down stairs also! Sometimes I'll forget to stop and wind up counting my regular steps too.

I don't think I'd ever try audio books either. I can't fully commit to a Kindle, how am I going to totally give up actually reading?

  28. I count steps as well! I didn't start doing that until I was well into my twenties and it's become a habit.

    ReplyDelete
  29. I count steps too! Also didn't realize it was a weird thing until I was adult. And every time I cook, I really just mostly view food as a vehicle for sauces. Because it's frowned upon to eat sauce with a spoon and call that dinner.

  30. When I make things (which I rarely do) they are to be vehicles for butter.
I was never, and never will be a ring wearer. Never wore my engagement rings or my wedding ring.
It took forever to break the habit, but I'm glad I made the effort to read only 1 book at a time. I find the notion of listening to a book ridiculous. Will never, as long as I have eyes that function.
If I am on the stairs, I stop all conversation in order to count. I am a counting obsessive.
I FINALLY passed my driving test on the third try, on the second try I crashed. Apparently that is an automatic fail, even if every other aspect is passed. Go figure!

  31. I have two moods: change all the songs all the time & don't ever touch skip. There is no in between with me.
I only read one book at a time as well. I can't focus on more than one at a time. Same with binge watching a show.

  32. mail confusion is a huge fear of mine. like, i freak out about people in the same family having the same initials. i almost didn't marry KC because of it. haha. I guess I used to receive a lot of mail that said K instead of Kristen, but now all our mail says Kristen or Kenneth so it's not really that big of a deal. and yes, i really did worry about this. my friend has a 13 year old named Brendan and when she had her last baby who is now 2, she named him Beckham and I was like OMG TWO B NAMES NO YOU CAN'T.
    anyway.
i get you about reading one book at a time.i always have an audio book going - but we've talked about that before and the only audio i've ever been super into like don't talk to me was the martian. most of the time if i'm really into it, i'll switch to real book so i can have that experience i want.
i love this post and the one Jana did so i might have to do one. i also count when i walk up steps.

  33. I won't do audiobooks either. It was hard enough for me to go kindle. I'm definitely not a jeans person either. I own one pair. I snagged them the other day and I almost cried... because they are the only jeans I own/like/will wear... which means they are basically my only cold weather friendly clothes.

Anddddd... I don't know my right from my left. It makes directions extremely tricky.

  34. I'm definitely a firm believer in the bubble and personal space zone lol. I don't like it when people get too close for comfort.

  35. We both wear Tungsten wedding bands. It was less than $100 for the two of them. I would rather spend thousands of dollars on other things, instead of a big diamond.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Haha. I've never heard the balloon thing before, but I'm so glad I'm not the only one who can listen to a song on repeat. Also, I've tried the audio books thing and I really hate it. It's just not the same and I hate the voices.
