TWTW - the one with no title just words and a tune

This is two Fridays in a row where I was not on the couch like a slug by 7 pm. Is there a reward for this? I met my lady friends for dinner at Wahlburgers in Northern Liberties. The burgers were good, as were the shoestring red onion rings but there were no actual Wahlburgs in sight. We were going to follow it up with bowling but sat running our mouths for too long. Bitches got a lot to talk about!
Is there a better way to start a Saturday than a 6:10 am grocery delivery? Most definitely. A little later in the morning I attended a local Women's Democrat meeting even though I have massive political fatigue right now. I did like it even though I am not really a traditional mold dem anymore. Plus I scored sashes for the march. Holler.
I spent the rest of the day basically slow cooking dinner, reading the newest book in one of my favorite series of books, and doing a little purging and organizing in the basement to make room for hand me down furniture from my Dad & Carol. This is going to be my shore staging station where things get put that need to be taken to the shore or stored to take there soon.
Dinner and dessert at home on Saturday: prime rib with garlic herb butter, mashed potatoes, green beans, and a pear crisp. Dynamite. It was my first time making a prime rib and I don't know why I waited so long. It was not as difficult as I thought it would be to have it done the way I like it. I think I was mostly worried about putting out a lot of cash for a cut of meat and fucking it up. That didn't happen! And the entire dinner is a straight up copy of that Tasty video that's been around facebook.
Otherwise, dog lounging. We watched the first episode of The OA on Netflix. Wild, man.
Sunday I met my old friend Alyssa for brunch at the Cheesecake Factory for an extended and overdue catch up. I also saw my old friend Tara who was there with her family. Junior high/high school reunion day.
Back at home I picked up, changed the sheets, put laundry away, painted my nails (OPI Lost My Bikini in Molokini) and went to Mom & Rich's for dinner where I unapologetically polished off two donuts Kate brought from Yum Yum
Weekly food prep was super easy this week: breakfast is savory oatmeal; snacks are spinach muffins from the freezer, carrots with hummus; gala apples; and naval oranges; lunch is spinach mac and cheese cups from the freezer; dinner is leftover prime rib and leftovers from Mom and I'll probably pinch hit with salads from Wawa somewhere along the way.

Not too long ago, black people couldn't vote (Voting Rights Act passed in 1965). They also couldn't drink out of the same water fountains as white people until the Civil Rights Act was passed in 1964, but in some places the Jim Crow ways lingered on. Both of those things happened in part to the tremendous leadership of Martin Luther King Jr., and his untimely murder in 1968 actually sped up the equal housing bill that would be the last significant legislation of the Civil Rights era. Today more than ever I take comfort in his tactics and his powerful words. I know others do as well - if you have not seen it, check out Nina Davis's speech at the MLKJr Memorial in D.C. on Saturday. It made my grinch heart grow two sizes.
Go get 'em this week!

  1. So lovely spending time with you yesterday!
Very proud of you and Mike Doyle attending the march and for just being very good and caring citizens. It's easy to turn your back on every thing and go your merry little way, but you aren't doing that. It's awesome ! Very interested in the prime rib❣️It's Pop's favorite meal❣️ I will have to try it. God and Goddess speed this week and always! Thanks to MLK and all who have stood up for equal rights! Love. Your. Momma. 💖✨😇☮🦄🍀😍🙏

  2. The burger and prime rib both look SO delicious! I haven't tried prime rib either but glad to hear it wasn't too hard - I'll look for that Tasty video but did you do it in the oven (presumably)? I haven't started the Ingrid Thoft series yet but I'm looking forward to it later this month! That nail colour is gorgeous too! I love Martin Luther King Jr. quotes. What an inspirational leader.

  3. We just got a Wahlburger's but I haven't been yet. I'm intrigued enough to go once :) It felt very empowering and like I was actually participating in my local politics when I went to our local meeting Saturday. Even if the entire group doesn't see eye to eye, it's nice to see people engaged and caring!

  5. bitches got a lot to talk about! haha. whenever we go to dinner or brunch, i feel sorry for the waiters or people waiting on tables because we sit there for like 4-5 hours. one place we go to often is only open for breakfast/brunch and we've been there until they close. oops.
i've never cooked prime rib. i might have to try that video recipe thing.
KC and I binge watched the OA over a couple of days, which we don't do often (last tv show we did that to was Stranger Things). can't wait to see what you think of it if you keep watching it!
love MLK quotes. i'll have to watch that speech video when i get home (because it will probably make me cry, i also have a grinch heart but cry easily, i know that doesn't make sense).

  7. Burgers aren't even my favourite food but that one looks delicious! Good to hear some success stories from the Tasty videos, I'm always a little skeptical of how well they actually work!

  8. That pear crisp sounds delicious. This week I'm attempting beercan chicken and I'm actually pretty excited about it.
    Off to read that speech!

  9. Looks like a great weekend! Um, prime rib has always intimidated me, yours turned out perfect though.

  11. Really love that purple nail color. I have a couple different ones that are almost like that but just a tad lighter...I need a good non-pastel purple though like that one. Now I really want to try prime rib. I have a couple of recipes pinned but I too am always afraid of fucking it up. Maybe I'll just pull the trigger & make that one of the first meals I make when I move into my new place.

  12. Your dinner on Saturday looked amazing! And boo to no Wahlburger sitings! We didn't see any either when we went to the one here in town :-P

  13. What a pretty nail color.
That sash reminds me of the woman from Mary Poppins - the mom :)

  14. That prime rib and the pear crisp look damn good. Just... WOW. I made prime rib for Christmas... CostCo stuffs theirs with garlic, so when I cut it open... all this garlic fell out. Best surprise ever. I definitely LOLed at the "bitches got a lot to talk about." True. So true.

  15. The prime rib looks delicious. I've always been leery of making prime rib too. It's so dang expensive and I'd be so cranky if I screwed it up. But I love it. I may have to give it a try. I love those sashes and cannot wait to hear about your experience at the march this week. Oh, I also made that breakfast casserole you shared (maybe last week?) and it was delicious!

  16. That dinner looks amazing! And the pear crisp, yum.
I really liked the first episode of The OA and then it got weird(er).

  17. Bummer about no Whalburgs at Whatburgers, but that's awesome to hear that the burgers are fantastic! I'd love to visit one! Your prime rib looks absolutely delicious, and I'm glad that it wasn't as difficult to cook as you thought it might be!

  18. Another jampacked weekend indeed! Even when you say you lounge around, you tend to always get a heck of a lot of ish done! All that food looks incredible. We were on the couch by 7 on Friday and watched the first two episodes of the OA. I really liked the premiere and I'm hoping I keep liking the show -it's getting pretty science-fictiony! Good on you for all the political stuff. I also believe I don't fit the exact mold but my allegiance and heart always lean to your side as well. Good job getting out there.

  19. It looks like you had a really nice weekend! I have not watched any of The OA but I hear it's quite interesting. haha

  20. Those burgers look so good. Prime rib is amazing. My parents made it for Christmas and I don't ever want to eat anything else. Too bad it's pricey! Fun for a treat though!

  21. A Wahlburgs recently opened up here in Orlando and the line was out the door every time I went by plus I'm not a burger person so is it really worth a try? That prime rib recipe must have gotten extremely viral because K caught onto it and decided he was making it for Sunday dinner. I'm not a pink meat person so wasn't really for it plus the thing costed $50 but he cooked mine more medium rare and I almost licked the plate! So good! We used the leftovers to make fajitas tonight. So I guess I do love prime rib now but not when it's bleeding.

  23. Your meal is super impressive. I cooked last night. It wasn't pretty. I'm looking forward to your posts about the march this weekend. Sashes are such a weird thing to hand out yet so fitting.

  24. Minus the pear crisp, we had the same dinner on Saturday! And YAY for getting on the OA train! Can't wait to hear your thoughts when you finish it!

  25. How many Wahlburgers are there now? I've been to Boston and Toronto and have never had a sighting. I really like the burgers and frappes! Pear crips sounds amazing. I'm so envious that you're going to the march. I'll be at the Seattle one, but it's not the same. I just told Jacob we have to watch The OA next.

  26. Dang you had a jam-packed weekend full of fun, food and productivity! It doesn't get much better (well, maybe not being woken up that early for a grocery delivery would make it better). And go you on scoring those sashes! Have you watched any more of The OA since the weekend? We got into it because our friend told us "it was so bad it's good" haha, we definitely got hooked and kept watching to find out what the heck happens. I'm curious to hear what you think when you get through it!
