Thursday Thoughts - there's something happening here

1. I'm sick to fucking death of people acting like liberals are still crying over the election every time a complaint is voiced about the incoming administration. The person still whining about the election on twitter and mentioning his opponent's name within five minutes of starting his first press conference ever is the president elect. If you agree with a presidential cabinet of unqualified neo-nazis who have not been vetted by an independent ethics committee; a republican led congress who is thirsty to defund Planned Parenthood in an attempt to plunder millions of American women into shitty situations and repeal the ACA leaving millions of Americans without health insurance; a bunch of people who don't believe in science; a candidate attempting to eradicate the free press; people who have been groomed for service by Russia; and a loose cannon goading countries with nuclear weapons on twitter, you are free to sit and do nothing just as I am free to voice my outrage, which will be turned on you if you are unable to distinguish between despair and activism. I will not normalize shit like the below (from last week) and if you care about this country, you shouldn't either.

2. I did have to laugh at the people raging over Meryl Streep daring to use her time on stage to talk politics and shitting on her because she's a millionaire celebrity...meanwhile, they voted a millionaire celebrity into the office of the president. Politics are part of life. They can be talked about anywhere. What's good for the goose is good for the gander. You better be careful, trump supporters, or you'll be labeled special snowflakes and the new drink of choice will be cups of conservative tears soon. Hypocrisy...look it up. By the way, Meryl got a lot of screen time but did you see the clip of Viola Davis backstage in response to a reporter's question? Fierce. I love her. Click here to see it.

3. I know, by this time, you're all STFU about politics and I do try to keep it to two things...but can I let this week go without mentioning Pee Gate? No, I cannot. Is it fake? We'll see. In the meantime, I'm enjoying the witticisms it has brought to twitter (search #goldenshowers for some funnies). Even if it is fake, I think I'll keep it around as long as the birthers kept Obama's birth certificate ruse going and as long as the Clinton haters invoked the blow job heard round the world. I often seek to go high in response to others going low, but not this time. Don't worry, I won't let the pee distract me from the issues. Rex Tillerson's hearing for Secretary of State was rough yesterday-it's clear he knows little about what's happening in the world and that his ties with Russia and Putin are undeniable-and if you don't want that, in addition to calling your own senators call Sen Corker (R-TN) who is chairing the selection committee on Tillerson (202) 224-3344 and Sen Cardin (D-MD) who is the ranking member on the committee and voice your dissent. And hell call ANYONE you want about the ACA - while we slept last night the GOP started gutting it without a replacement plan - that they've had eight years to come up with - and voted down protections for VETERANS and people with pre-existing conditions...you know, the things the majority of Americans were in favor of keeping about the plan that they said they would not touch.

4. Do you have a winter playlist on spotify? I think if you click here you can get to mine. If you can't, let me know.

5. I need to paint my nails, but I'm going bowling on Friday night and that's not a good combination.

6. My heaven features roasted vegetables.

7. I've been looking for a chair like this for years, since I fell in love with one at Marshalls and then fell victim to Marshalls Law when I didn't purchase it immediately. I found it now at Pier 1, and it's on sale...but it means I have to go back to the scene of the paint crime to pick it up if I buy it. And I think I have to buy it I've already spent years pining over not buying it the last time.

8. Check out my friend Lyndsey's blog - raw and real and she's just dipping her feet in the writing is good for the soul pool. Click here to view/read.

9. Speaking of good for the soul...reminder: Self care.

  1. That chair is great!! I'm also a huge lover of roasted veg! I won't comment on the unfortunate state of the US, except to say this Canadian weeps for you!

  2. Amen! It's like a GOP dictatorship. Blatantly ignoring the people you represent even if the go to your office. Right , Pat Toomey. Jesus. Sending lights and love and positive energy.
You put my thoughts in writing. God bless and heal all! Love. Your. Momma.

  3. I love those Joe & Obama memes...they kill me. Like Elyse, I don't have much to say about US politics since I can't even begin to say I have followed it closely enough but I am inspired by your passion and I think it's important to keep talking about it. LOL I forgot about your paint story - I think the chair would be worth it though! It's so nice!!

  4. I thought that Viola & Meryl were badasses that night. Yeah, Meryl's struggles are different than ours, but she's a citizen of the same country- the same world- and she has the opportunity to speak from a platform. I loved what she said and how she said it that night.
I can't understand our country. All the years of birth certificate/citizenship paranoia.... Where the f*ck are those people now when our president-elect ACTUALLY does have ties to a very dangerous, manipulative govn't?! Party loyalty/turning a blind eye is what will bring us down. It's disgusting and terrifying.

  5. Get the chair! Get it now!!! Don't regret it again--just avert your eyes to the scene of the paint crime. Blinders!!
I will be calling about the ACA crap they pulled. I do not understand how anyone thinks it's a good idea to repeal something without having a replacement in place so the 20 MILLION people who have health insurance aren't screwed over. That's a whole lot of voting constituents...just saying. I tried to order my breast pump yesterday because of this craziness (while it's still covered) and was told I had to wait a month before my due date before I could order it. Small potatoes in the grand scheme of things. The whole thing makes my blood boil and I actually cried the other day because of how overwhelmed and helpless I feel about it all. I know I'm not totally helpless, but damn it sure feels like it.

  6. That chair...it looks so cozy!!!
I just printed a vegan recipe for some roasted vegetables - I've been craving it ever since I printed it - just gotta get to the grocery. The worst part of cooking.

  7. I had forgotten about the paint hahahaha but you have to get the chair, you know you do.
Viola Davis is amazing, she's a ridiculously good actress.
I can't say I agree with your stance on the ACA though, we differ there. Such is life!

  8. The chair is amazing and you need it in your life. I totally agree with every you said about Trump and the election. The World is mad right now.

  9. Every day I hear something and I used to think surely, THIS is the piece of information people can't ignore, THIS is the hypocrisy they won't be able to turn a blind eye to, THIS is the double standard they're enforcing that will wake them up. But still no. Nothing is changing. The old guard is so entrenched in their hatred and willingness to look absolutely stupid as long as it protects their title as Republican, as if that's to be worn like a badge of honor these days, that they're going to happily sit by as the decisions they make run this country into the ground. I find it especially horrendous following a presidency like Obama's that meant so much to me. Thanks for providing insight to what people can do to stay engaged. RESIST.

Also, my nails are in terrible need of some polish but I'm in the midst of packing up my apartment, and I know that would be a disaster waiting to happen.

  10. Just yes. Yes. Doomsday may be here...

But I have been wondering, what exactly started the golden showers thing? I'm enjoying it, but want to see its inception...

  11. You need that chair, especially if it's on sale! And I still can't get enough of the Joe Biden memes... hilarious!

  12. "Veep" is in trouble because there is absolutely no plot line that can rival what is actually happening. I was horribly disappointed when George W was elected but I didn't feel the way I feel about this horrible man. And I will NEVER accept him as my president. I'm going to resist him every step of the way.

  13. I love Viola Davis.

My state of frustration at all things politics is at such a high level there are some moments I cannot even function.

  14. Yes to every single point you made about the incoming administration. I get so mad over everything that I can't even see straight. Can't get enough of Joe and Obama. The absolute best.

  15. The roundup would be funny if it wasn't accurate. The whole press thing makes me feel extra icky.

On to happier things, I'm with everyone else who says you need the chair! And the ecard took me a few reads but that's funny.

  16. #1-3 YES, YES, YES!!! Viola Davis is a national treasure, much like Meryl Streep. And I also laugh (and sometimes wail in bitter disappointment) that the Orange Troll still cannot let go of Hillary Clinton. He better gear up because while his tiny brain thinks it is going to be a grand 4 years - it's not. Not only because his days will be filled with more than just standing in front of his cheering fans, but just like Obama had to put up with his crap, he will have to put up with millions of activists getting in his face. And he has proven time and time again that his skin is tissue thin.

Those roasted veggies are making my mouth water. Self-care is so important. I'm planning on doing lots of relaxing reading because next week, it's official. And that chair is gorgeous.

  17. The Joe & Obama memes are so funny, such a great duo, I hope they continue to make a difference! Roasted Veggies are the best veggies!

  18. Oh... the scene of the paint debacle. Girl... May the force be with you!

I'm sick to death of the continued political crap, too. I have told several FB friends who continue to post things about liberals crying to move on.

  19. Take a paper bag and go buy the chair.

I can't even fucking deal with what's going on in our country IN THE MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT. Fools. Do they really think no one will notice?

    Well... don't answer that.

    Fucktards.

  20. So I'm noticing you never capitalize trump's name... the first time I noticed it a while ago I thought it was a typo, but then a) realized your grammar and spelling wouldn't allow for that ;) and b) he's not worth the capital T.

  21. Marshalls Law really sucks sometimes!!! I've fallen victim and it hurts. Those veggies look delightful. And I've never thought about a summer and winter playlist, but I really like it!!

  22. I commend your passion and commitment plus sharing the actual numbers of the correct people to call. I usually watch awards shows but didn't this week. I did look through some highlights and thought Viola Davis was my favorite clip as well. Plus, another clip I saw was Ryan Seacrest asking what she called the color of her dress (I guess wanting some fancy schmancy term) and she replied "yellow". Brilliant.

  23. I was reminded this morning while listening to a podcast that Justice Scalia died last February. I literally yelled in my car "FEBRUARY!"

The same people who bitch about Meryl Streep also will be the first to say "but I have the right to say what I want." Apparently celebrities don't have that right. I love Viola Davis so hard and admittedly I haven't yet seen any of the other nominees in her category, but she was outSTANDing in Fences.

Ohio's Republican Senator posted on FB yesterday (and apparently on Twitter too) lauding the efforts to repeal the ACA. I read through about 50 of the comments on his post and I saw only ONE that agreed with him. Everyone else said things like "I beg you not to do this."

On a lighter note, I'm checking out your winter playlist. I haven't made a playlist of my own in a while.

  24. I've always left activism to other people until this year I really realized how stupid that was on my part. I'm jumping in with both feet and really doing things I would never have imagined. But, today I went to a local meeting where we discussed the danger of being reactive rather than proactive. It felt nice in my very red state to see so many others feeling the same way and being willing to work!
