Thursday Thoughts - Duran Duran

1. Coming up with blog post titles five years in sometimes means I throw a few words in the title line and let it ride. A band that hasn't been relevant since the 1980s? Sure, why not. There is no other mention of Duran Duran in this post. But that Simon LeBon, he was a looker, huh?

2. Here was where I was going to tell you the basement reorganization project from hell is as done as it's going to get right now except Tuesday night I laid on the couch and did nothing so I can't tell you that.

3. Some weeks can go screw. This is one of them.

4. Library day yesterday. I started Side Effects May Vary last night.  Red Rising has actually been on my to read list since 2/1/14, but I picked it up off of a shelf without realizing I already knew about it. And I feel like I might have read Flesh and Blood by Cornwell, but I won't know until I dive into it. I picked that one up off the shelf too. You guys killed it on Show Us Your Books this week. You're all on fire. I hope you went back and read posts of the later linker uppers. If you didn't, you're missing out!
5. I am sick to death of this white gray pall over the place. Everything is washed out and boring.

6. I found these cute planters from Home Depot that go over the deck railing so I'll have little pockets of flowers at the shore like I've always admired at other houses and said I'd have at the fictional shore house I was sure I'd never own but here I am, buying deck planters for it. One more major project upstairs next week and then we're done with major projects for the season, which will give us more time to enjoy the pinch me moments and less need to question if we were crazy for getting ourselves into this.
7. Is it a full moon? I've encountered the craziest assholes every day this week. I had a real fruit loop next to me on the train on Wednesday morning. Followed by a fucking loon in Dunkin Donuts who was slamming down on the counters and going on about lasers blinding him. If this sounds familiar it's because I have seen him doing the same thing before. Then I saw three UPS workers yelling at each other in front of my building over Steve on the docks. Tommy used to work on the docks...

8. Place your bets in advance - will Memorial Day weekend be cold or temperate?

9. This made me LOL.

10. E-card of the week: Word.

I'm tapped out for the week. You?

  1. Duran Duran to start, and a Bon Jovi lyric hidden inside. Did you write this post for me? Going now to see if I missed any late linkers.
I thought of you this week as I was reading my current Lucas Davenport (John Sandford book). There are a sprinkling of "that fucking Flowers" comments. And, I know you and I share the Virgil crush.

  3. I love that flower pot for a patio. Very clever.
I love going back & looking at your link ups - I sit with one monitor to the web sites & my other monitor with my library page pulled up to see if the books are available :)
We're more then half way through the week - hang in there.

  4. I've got lots of library books to pick up and a long birthday weekend ahead, I'm so excited!

I love that over the rail planter and now I need to go to Home Depot and find some.

  5. LOL at Toto. Some friends saw Duran Duran when they were in Houston a few weeks ago and said they still put on a great show, if you're ever interested. Side Effects May Vary is on my list for very next and I am SO PUMPED you guys are doing How to Start a Fire because I just need to hear more thoughts about it. I liked it, but it was weird, and I don't understand many of the author's choices in how the story was told. And that's all I'll say since I know you haven't read it yet.

  6. LOL for hours at the Toto e-card.

I love deck flowers. We had the kinds like you posted at our old house but alas, no deck at this one so no little bursts of flowers.

  7. I heard that it's supposed to be a full moon this Friday, but when I looked people tell lies..BUT tomorrow IS Friday the 13th so maybe that has something to do with the crazies!

  9. My students are watching a movie & it took everything in me not to bust out laughing at the toto meme.

  10. Totally tapped out! All I'm really doing at work today is contemplating napping at my desk.

  11. It sounds like you need the weekend. I love your description of the loons you've come across. Hahaha!
(I have that Toto-meme on a Pinterest board because it reminds me of my husband. Hahaha!)

  12. SAME. I also snorted at the last e-card. Because really... that's how I feel this week. YAY for shore house planters... and being done with projects... so you can just enjoy the pinch me moments.

  13. Ummm, that Toto meme got me. One of my favorite jamz!

I kinda hope Memorial Day weekend here is colder than normal, but I hope for you it's warmer than normal :)

  14. I had other thoughts but then I LOLed so hard at Toto that I forgot them all.

  15. Ugh. We got May Gray going on right now and it's making me feel meh. I love the deck flower pots, that is so clever. Is Flesh and Bone a Scarpetta novel? I used to love that series but drifted away for one reason or another. Maybe I ought to check it again. Sometimes when I revisit an old, favorite series, I fall in love again.

  16. Sometimes you just need a break, especially with as much work as y'all have been doing around your house and the shore house!

  17. number 7...LOL!!! I always call people fruit loops and my fiancé makes so much fun of me. seriously it is the best way to describer certain people. some people are A-holes, some are morons, and some are fruit loops. lol.

  18. Haha that ecard! So those pots are totally cool and now I want some for my deck. I need to go back and read the late linker uppers! I added a ridiculous number of books to my list this month, what's a few more?! This week can totally suck it.

  19. This cracked me up. From Duran Duran, to "Tommy used to work on the docks" to Toto...you killed it. I have How to Start a Fire on my to-read list! Then again I have like 200 books on my to-read list.

  20. Too lazy to read through comments so you might have been told this already, but Mercury retrograde is to blame for issues lately. It's been a bad one. Luckily it turns direct on the 22nd. Hang on!
Big ups for the Heathers image. Love that one. And the Dorothy & Toto meme!

  21. Last week was May Shit Week for me. This one has shown some improvement. Oh, Simon......

  22. Weird, I literally heard that Africa song today. I was watching Kristen Bell and Dax Shepard's Africa video :). The gray pall finally disappeared today, but I think it's making its' return this weekend.

  23. Aw sorry this week hasn't been the best. The loony tune in DD sounds a bit over the top. Hoping the weekend brings you more happiness and peace.

  24. This post is everything. I love that planter but I'm guessing if I got it a dove would just make babies in it at this point. Yes to the grey everywhere, yes to number 3 and the Toto meme is one of my favorites. Also the Bon Jovi insert is perfection haha.

  25. Love that planter. What a clever idea. I don't know if it's a full moon but tomorrow is Friday the 13th. You might need to call in sick. Just start the weekend early.

  26. OMG the Toto meme - LOLOLOLOLOL!!

my fav was john tayler. and to this day, other than john, nick and simon, i have no idea who those other 2 guys are LOL

  27. Thank God for the library. That's pretty consistently the highlight of my week! I love those planters. We have this hideous dog run out back that could use a couple of those. I really need to get into yard work because it's getting real ugly around here. Lol to #9!

  28. a shitty week, indeed. and even though the weather's been good here, we had a week-long gray/rainy misery that was over us in NY the ENTIRE week last week. it was miserable. here's hoping things look up! (also - lol at the train loon - saw that on FB)

  29. Decent weather this week, more or less, but yeah. I'm spent. And I'm just now getting around to actually commenting on the blog posts from this week.
Do you read a lot of Cornwell? I read one once and it was okay. But I see her books everywhere and am contemplating another...

  30. #9 just made me laugh out loud too. I'm sending that to my dad, he will love it. Also, those pots from Home Depot are so awesome. I love window boxes on houses and I dream about them on my new england retirement house :) Hopefully I'll buy that in my 30's

  31. I hope Memorial Day is nice. We're supposed to go camping. In the rain would be terrible. Have a great weekend!

  32. Duran Duran was my first concert! :-)
Fingers crossed for a warm Memorial Day. It's time. The gray can go. Enough's enough.

  33. hahahahaha the rains down in africa.
i am so sick of this lame ass grey rainy blah weather.
red rising has been on my list for ages, a lot of people said that one book i read (red queen) copies it a bit, so i am intrigued.
