Thursday Thoughts for the wearing of the green

1. It amuses me that I really love Authority Song by John Cougar Mellencamp (I don't care what he's calling himself now) even though I am a total rule follower. Breaking the rules does not make me feel triumphant and free. It makes me feel compromised and stressed out. LOL

2. I actually forgot about this but I did have cars with more than one key. It's crazy that that was the norm and now it's so not.

3. Today would have been my Grandmom's birthday. I miss celebrating with her, she would always pick the restaurant for the family dinner which was awesome because I hate picking restaurants. I wish she could physically be here to meet Lola Jean - she was really great at getting down to a kid level and playing with kids. Plus I think Lola resembles her and I feel her around a lot whenever I'm with my niece. I'll make sure Lola knows her stories!

4. Birthday week reports: I began my birthday by cleaning the shore house until 12:15 in the morning. MFD put my Christmas present bike together, and we went to breakfast down at Jon & Patty's in the morning before finishing some things and trying to get a contractor in to fix a failing wall heater. We got back home around noon. I meant to get a shower, but instead roamed all day in sweats, unshowered and with no makeup on. NFG.
5. My mom bought hoagies for lunch and I spent some time with her and Swan and Lola Jean. Rich was away for work.
6. I also got a manicure, pedicure, and brow wax. Sometimes I go through phases where I want to have a signature nail color and wear the same color all the time. Purple Palazzo Pants would totally be a candidate for my nail signature color. I need to buy it.

7. Target in the middle of a weekday is luxurious. As is allowing yourself to browse and buy at will.

8. The evening was spent at home...just where I wanted the be. I didn't even feel like going out to dinner. More often than not I like to spend the actual day of my birthday just being. MFD brought me Brother's Pizza at my request and I watched Bosch and hung out with the dogs. Also, did you guys know I share a birthday with RBG? When I finally did shower, I had to represent. Of course, since I celebrate all month, the celebrations will continue.

9. Tomorrow is the first seasonal goal linkup with me & Sara from My Journey of Doing. Seasonal goals work best for me - I feel like a month is a little too short for me to stretch. I hope you'll join us!

10. E-card of the week...I couldn't find one. But I liked these things a lot.

  1. One of the best birthdays I had was spending the night in my pjs, ordering pizza, drinking wine, and watching The Outsiders (because the husband had never seen it.) That picture of nail polish? Well, coinicidentally, Shorts Story is one of my preferred/signature colors. Happy birthday month!

  4. That sounds like an amazing birthday. I've found the older I get the more I just want to relax and veg on my bday. Also, you look like your grandmom. The eyes/eyebrows I can see it! She was was a beautiful lady.

  5. My first car had two keys. It was actually pretty handy for when I needed to heat it up in the winter, but didn't want people driving away with it. Now my car has remote start, so I can't complain too much. :)

  6. Happy St. Paddy's Day!! I love a chillax birthday - nothing wrong with whooping it up as well but sometimes just being is the best. Side note: the dog in the window pic is adorbs!

  7. My current car requires two keys. One for the ignition/trunk and one for the gas tank (there is no pull to open the gas tank) 1990 Toyota Corolla, I have driven it since 2003 and it has 135,000 miles on it, I plan on driving it till it dies. Its awesome and I love it. I also don't ever lock the doors because the keys start to break too quickly. I love the judgmental looks I get at my kids daycare- Another blog post I am working on.

  8. Birthday's of doing nothing are my favorite, I try never to work on my birthday either. It's the holiday of you why would anyone work?!

  9. Today is also my grandpa's birthday, but he has been gone for 10 years. He loved St. Pat's Day!

  10. It's hard to call people something different once you've committed one particular name to memory, isn't it? I still on occasion refer to John Mellencamp as John Cougar Mellencamp and my husband will say, "Ok, Jack and Diane..." Old habits die hard. My first car, a Pontiac Grand Am, also had 2 keys! My current car doesn't even have a key, just a FOB and a push button. We've come a long way... Have a good one!

  11. I love a middle of the day mid-week target trip. I'll probably partake in one next week while I'm on Spring Break. Loving the colors that you chose for your mani pedi, and those hoagies looked so good! I love Philly/Jersey hoagies! :)

  12. So glad we could do lunch and that both Sean and Lola were there. Then you could relax at home. You know my request for Mothers' Day and my birthday is by the pool with my chickens and grandchickens and any of my other people who can be there. Informal and inexpensive and easy for all ! Lucky my chickens are close ! My only other request is perfect weather lol.
Happy rest of the month! Love. Your. Momma

  13. LOL so hard at that tweet about Bernie. My nail signature is just french tips because it's so much easier for me than fully painting my nails. Otherwise it's a hot pink color in spring/summer and a dark color in fall/winter that looks black but it's actually just super dark purple.

  14. Purple Palazzo pants should be your signature color. Plus, it's just fun to say. I hadn't seen that one issue voter thing is spot on. haha! I agree, just being on your birthday is the PERFECT way to spend it.

  17. I'm not a rule breaker either - it stresses me out. Except speed limits - I'm not the best with those. It's so wonderful that your niece resembles an amazing woman. Family is a pretty awesome thing when you think about the history that each has. Glad you had a laid back birthday - those really are the best.

  18. That picture of your Grandmom is just stunning and she sounds like such an amazing woman :) Lola will know her through you for sure! Jared's been asking me what I want to do for my bday this month and I told him I honestly thought a night at home with take-out and a good movie might be all I want this year. Sometimes just the downtime to "be" is a treat in itself!

  19. I also love The Authority Song even though I am ALSO a rule followER!

  20. Your low key birthday sounds awesome, happy birthday! Browsing and buying at will is some kind of luxury. Your selection looks intriguing!

And one of the reasons why I like working from home is that I don't have any co-workers, cheery or otherwise, getting up in my face in the mornings. Bliss.

  21. Sounds like a glorious birthday spent with those who mean the most and some quiet time at home. The Target trip was much deserved! lol

  22. Hahahaha the over cheerful mother fucker at work. Yup, there is always one of those!!! Sounds like you had a great birthday!!! And Target on a week day not around lunch hour is so fun! It is like you have the whole store to yourself! Your grandmother was beautiful and her legacy will live on through your niece :)

  23. That sounds like the best birthday! I really should take off from work one year and just celebrate at home and not doing a ton of things!

  24. Totally remember cars with two keys....

Happy Late Birthday!!! ( I can't remember if I wished you one earlier...)

I need both of those polishes in my life. Stat.

  25. I remember the 2 keys thing too... wow...memories.
I feel so weird when I go to Target on a weekday. Like Nature is thrown off or something :)

  26. OMG the overly cheerful person at work. Actually, I don't have that at my current place (odd, right?) and I reallllly appreciate that.
Glad you had a fabulous bday!

  29. NOTHING beats Target in the middle of a weekday. NOTHING. Especially when kids are still in school. lol

  30. totally agree about just 'being' on your birthday. i used to enjoy doing stuff when i was younger, but now i like to actively not do stuff. so sweet you will tell Lola all about your grandmom :)
