Thursday Thoughts

1. I have almost missed my train countless times because I have to pause after I get out of the shower and stare at my dogs all laying together nice nice. Then I have to take pictures of it like I haven't taken the same photos 4028 times before.
2. I went to Lola's house Tuesday night. I had to drop off her little Nike booties that made me laugh and do my weekly check in with her. I just love her! Being an aunt rocks and she doesn't even do anything yet. I can't imagine how awesome it will be when she's older.
3. I was contacted to review a book and the book was sent to me for free. The book was not good - I didn't finish it. So I emailed the person who contacted me initially and said, "I'm sorry, but I can't finish this book. I wanted to be up front with you." Maybe she'll never send me anything else for free to review, but that's okay. There are few things I hate more than bloggers trying to make things they got for free seem better than they actually are. It's misleading and inauthentic. Just because it was free doesn't mean you have to act like you like it and mislead others. Your integrity should not be for sale.

4. This time of year everyone's all gaga for Hocus Pocus. I've seen Hocus Pocus twice. Hocus Pocus doesn't come close to being as good as Teen Witch. TOP THAT (big deal) TOP THAT (unreal) you can try until you're blue I will make a fool of you TOP THAT.
5. Yes, I did buy my dogs a poop emoji toy. Mae is obsessed with it and guards it with her life. If you come near it she gets really pissed off.
6. Christmas cards and postage have been ordered so I can mail them on Thanksgiving like the pyscho I like to be. I used someone new this year - Simply to Impress. They're running a 40% off (use code H5WRB3 until Sunday) so the time was right and so was the price. I also liked their designs. You know, you use snapfish or shutterfly for so many years, you need fresh blood. Postage was ordered from USPS (derr) and return address labels from Zazzle - they were running a 50% off sale yesterday too. Boom shaka laka.

7. I'm testing out some new beauty products. I love doing that. What are you testing out recently?

8. New kicks. One of my great loves in life - sneakers. Especially colorful sneakers. These are the Asics Gel Kayano 21...podiatrist approved.

9. This weekend is the only weekend I'm home all month. I have overloaded it, but with all good things. One of those things is the Pancreatic Cancer Walk in honor of my grandmom. Thank you truly, so much, to those of you who have donated. I'm used to Relay For Life giving me a notification email and an email I can send a thank you to, and Purplestride doesn't do that so I hope this can suffice to my awesome donors. Thank you thank you thank you to Aub's mom Cathy, Aunt Carrie & Uncle Jim, Chuck & Jane, Amanda, Laura, Lori, Mare, Michell, Michelle, Aunt Nancy, Jenn @ Optimization Actually, and Kate. Madeline's Marchers has raised $1245. If you'd still like to donate, you can click here.

10. E-card of the week...This will be me tonight.

That's the news and I'm outta here.

  1. Those lil nike slippers are sooooo cute! LOVED Teen Witch as a kid, such a fun movie! Ha to the poop emoji, that's a fun toy.

GIRL, I'm the same as you, Christmas cards are ordered and they arrived YESTERDAY! WOOOHOO! I'm so excited!

  2. I loved teen witch - it's the best!! And how cute are those little nike booties you got your niece - so stinking sweet!! xo, Biana -BlovedBoston

  3. Loving this list of stuff going on! I totally take a million pictures of Cooper, usually sleeping, and it's 100% ok. The poop emoji toy made me laugh. And YES I'm with you--if a product isn't good, I hate when people make it seem like it is. When I've done reviews, I'll tell the things I really do like, and also mention the downsides (if there are some). If I had a book to review that I didn't like I would've done the same thing that you did.
And YES to Teen Witch! I love that movie still :)

  4. Can we just talk about Teen Witch all day long? Also random fact I just learned last week while listening to the Nerdist podcast: did you know Robin Lively is Blake Lively's half-sister?!

    1. Yes! I learned that tidbit from Instagram. Guilty of following both Livelys!

  5. I don't think I've ever even heard of teen witch. I'm definitely going to see if I can find it to watch. My sis told me the other day that the poop emoji is supposed to be chocolate...I'll always think of it as poop. Mae guarding it with her life is awesome!

  6. #10 was me yesterday.

I LOVE TEEN WITCH. I watched it every time it was on the Disney Channel when I was a kid. I remember seeing Hocus Pocus in the theater and I do own it (and love it), but Teen Witch is something else.

Maybe I'll move onto Asics. I need new sneakers.

  7. Amen on taking the same type pictures of our furry kids over and over. I long for the day that I can take a nice group picture of our 3! Right now Boo is sequestered in the kitchen, mostly because of his sister Sasha, Yogi would be fine with him. Yesterday I had a lovely walk with Lola and Aub and then a wonderful time rocking away with our little sweetie. So much fun ahead! I need a pair of those lightweight Nike Free sneakers! Probably in black, of course.
Have a lovely and warm day! Love, Your Momma

  8. Seriously the amount of times I am almost late because i just want to stare at my dog is insane. Teen Witch is so much better than Hocus Pocus. If I don't like a book I am honest about it, not everything is going to be something you like and that is ok. Love the new kicks, i need some new ones too.

  9. babies are cute but little kids with their adorable voice, words, the things they say....it just melts your heart. being an aunt rocks - you get to spoil them rotten and their parents deal with it LOL

  10. You'll love your Asics as much as I do!

  11. Mae and the poop emoji!!!! I love that you told the book people that you couldn't finish it. I value your authenticity!! Loved the sweet niece picture. Best ever indeed.

  12. Oh my gosh, how do you make yourself leave for work when they're all cute and snuggly like that?!

  13. I love the fact that your dogs have a poop emoji toy. That brightened my day right there.

  14. I'll be walking the same walk, just a day later! I'm coming down Sunday to walk in the Lemon Run for Alexs Lemonade Stand in honor of my cute patootie cousin Caroline who is kickin' some cancer butt! Too bad it's not all just combined into one massive walk!

  15. Everybody loves Asics for tennis, perhaps I should try them. I need that poop emoji toy for my Winston!! I stopped reviewing stuff because too much of it was just shit and who wants to hear my reviews on a bunch of shit products I got fo free. Nada.

  16. Facebook showed me a photo I posted one year ago today... the same as every night before and since: my lap full of dog & cat. Never gets old for me, they are that cute!

  17. omg that poop emoji toy is hilarious! I take the same photos of Hawkeye over and over too. Always of her sleeping because she's just so cute and it's the only time she's still enough for a good photo.
But, sorry, I love Hocus Pocus so much and I'm not a Teen Witch fan at all!

  18. The poop emoji toy is awesome, I'd have purchased that too.

My sister is a colorful shoe love, she finds most of hers at the New Balance outlet store.

  19. I'm never not going to stop and take pictures of my dog (or cat) when they are being cute even if it makes me late. Totally worth it even if I have a million photos already. I also second Amanda's question - where did you get the poop emoji toy?!

  20. Asics are my favorite shoes lately.
Good for you - I hate when people do reviews that aren't honest.
    Those Nike Booties are fantastic!!!

  21. LOL rushing home to relax. Very cute, that niece and those socks!

  22. OMG, Teen Witch. I love that movie. I also love The Worst Witch, which I found on YouTube and made the child watch.

I wonder if it's the same book that was sent to me on your recommendation. I haven't read it yet because up until right now, I actually forgot about it. Oops. And if it is, I'm definitely not looking forward to it now.

I am in the market for some new sneakers. Suggestions welcomed.

  23. I've never even seen Hocus Pocus. Do people go crazy for it because SJP is in it? Those little baby feet are so cute! This baby is definitely going to have the best of everything. I have to say that baby Uggs are the best in the winter. They slip on and they're warm and fuzzy. I feel like my husband would appreciate that poop emoji toy... Good luck with the walk this weekend!

  24. YO Steph, I'm really happy for you and IMMA LET YOU FINISH: BUT HOCUS POCUS IS ONE OF THE BEST HALLOWEEN MOVIES OF ALL TIME! :)

In other news, I love the poop emoji toy hahah and yes, I too take millions of pictures of my dog even though he is doing exactly what he did yesterday and the day before that and the day before that. ha.

Being an auntie is the best, the best. I miss my nephew!

And good on you for returning the book. I have pushed back on free stuff too, it's obvious when you are inauthentic.

  25. Baby Lola sounds like the cutest thing! Enjoy every moment of her and also enjoy your one weekend at home...with the holidays coming up, I'm sure it's going to be hectic!

  26. Teen witch is one of my favorite movies EVER! I also love hocus pocus though....Hope you have a great weekend!

  27. Nike booties-- squeee! So cute! Your sneakers are cool too haha. What are you testing out? I've been on a facial cleanser kick lately. I just bought 3 small ones last night.

  28. I would stop and take pictures too. I've never seen Teen Witch... I think we have almost the same tennis shoes!

  29. Re: #3, this is why I don't EVER do reviews. If I do, it's unprompted and not sponsored, basically me just being like "Hey I watched this thing and loved it" or "heyyy this tastes awesome!" rather than it SCREAMING infomercial and being all in-your-face salesy. Not to mention what you said, I don't want to review something that's terrible. Most blog reviews I see are super positive because they're getting free stuff or money for it, which means it's just not genuine.

    ReplyDelete
  30. I also take a gazillion pictures of my cats being cute even though many of them probably look the same. I've never seen Hocus Pocus and don't really have a desire to. Love the kicks - both yours and Lola's!

    ReplyDelete
  31. Now I love me some Hocus Pocus but Teen Witch? I cant remember if I have seen it? I am certain I have but now I am going to have to watch it again to make sure! Your dogs are so cute! I love that you ordered the poop emoji toy hahahaha. I wonder if they make a taco one? My dogs should have tacos. I like your new kicks!

  32. #10 is one of those things where you laugh and then start to cry a little bit at the end of laughing because it's just too real. #3, thank you for being the kind of blogger others should look to for Integrity 101. Even if it's something just for the sake of entertainment like a book, a review should always be honest, no questions. Period. Also I love that you said you went to Lola's house, rather than her parents'. Those Nike booties!

  33. Love the emoji toy. And I think it's great that you responded to the sender about the book. I hate when people are fake too. It's so obvious and annoying!

  34. I did not realize the donation wasn't anonymous and I'm blushing now to get publicly credited for such a small amount. I decided a while back (while reading one of your posts, actually) to set aside $5 to donate to whatever charity I wanted every month (in addition to my regular, monthly charities) and that way I wouldn't have to debate every time I saw something I liked - I could just go for it, because $5 isn't a big deal.

Your dogs are adorable and you are totally justified in almost train-missing in order to enjoy it. Also, I love your shoes, and I agree whole heartedly with your philosophy on free stuff. So far the only reviews I really, really trust are the books ones, because most people request what they want, and are pretty free with their low star ratings.

  35. totally agree about bloggers being inauthentic. i know it's not exactly the same, but i give no shits about giving up on netgalley books when they are really bad, or saying i hated them because they were just bad. someone emailed me the other day about a product and it was like, the opposite of everything in my life so i said no. they kept badgering me and i was like, look. i am 100% sure i will hate that, do you really want me to write a post about that? because i'm not going to pretend i like something that i so obviously don't.
i have never seen teen witch. clearly, i need to change that.

  36. I take pictures of my cats when they're cuddled up too. It's ridiculous. I've never seen Hocus Pocus or Teen Witch! We watch The Great Pumpkin and Nightmare Before Christmas for Halloween. Asics saved my feet! I buy a new pair like every four months.

  37. I am trying out a new moisturizer and loving it. :) Also revising an old foundation I used to use. I subscribe to Birchbox and Ipsy so always trying out new stuff which is great since it saves me money. I have a little niece too and she's almost 2 years of age, she looks exactly like Boo from Monster's Inc, I adore her. Shes so cute. :) Enjoy your weekend Steph! Take Care -Iva

  38. The pugs are so cute and I love that Mae has claimed the poop emojie toy! Also I love Teen Witch equally as much as Hocus Pocus. I just consider it an "all the time" movie instead of just Halloween!
