Thursday Thoughts - beach version

1. There is no cup of coffee in the land that beats vacation coffee. Bonus for a good view.
2. There is also nothing as simple and amazing as an outside shower.
3. This was Mae's first time on a beach. By Tuesday she learned you have to run away from the water in order to be brushed off instead of hosed down. Gus was the only one who voluntarily ran into the water although Geege frolicked along it. These dogs were tired out daily from so much time outside and activity.
4. The sunset on Monday was on point. Isn't it amazing that this happens every day and we're able to see it if we're in the right place at the right time? I love how the light plays inside too. I'm always looking to the skies. They rarely disappoint me.
5. In our house we don't work on our birthdays. Well, I don't. MFD doesn't go to an office but he still works. Working from the beach is not a bad deal. Especially when you're on a beach with no one around you. Bliss.
6. MFD's birthday dinner at Hemingway's. We split the wedge salad, shrimp cocktail, and lobster mac & cheese. I had a regrettable steak and MFD had a lobster pot.
7. We also had ice cream twice. A birthday is the acceptable time to do that, right?
8. I like Cape May a lot for the Victorians, pretty houses in general, flowers and landscaping, signs and flags, and funky little shops. It's a quirky place and really enjoyable for a day trip or a weekend visit. After dinner we perused some shops and MFD got reflexology. I refrained from buying the $285 Buddha but I couldn't resist the socks and magnet.
9. We also spent a lot of time talking about being grateful. We are. I am. There were many years when it seemed like my life would not turn out as good as it has been recently. These days, I keep checking myself, like, is this real life? I will never forget the times when the sun didn't shine and I will never take it for granted. I will also never stop making MFD pose for pictures he's not interested in taking.
10. Ecard of the week. It's been freaking hot. You know it's hot when you are hot under an umbrella at the shore.

Your Thursday Thoughts? Call 'em out.

  1. Can we just talk about the colors in those pictures of the sun?! Breathtaking. And, pictures never seem to do it justice either. Those SOCKS!!!!!! What is it about wedge salads that are so wonderful? Well, bacon and blue cheese. I answered my own stupid question. Thank you for continuing to spread the message of gratitude. I regularly need to hear it.

  2. This post on so many levels!! I noticed the way the sunset was turning the sidewalk pink the other day; it took my breath away. I couldn't stop looking around to see where it was coming from. The pugs are SO good at vacation... and you are so good at birthdays! Keep taking those pictures. Especially ones with lobster bibs! :)

  8. Two questions... How did you find the place where you stayed? And where was that Buddha? (not sure I could have walked away from him)
    Oh, and gratitude ROCKS!

  9. Of all the things I want in my own beach home an outdoor shower is one, K and Tyson don't see the appeal which just makes me that much happier because I won't have to share.

I also never work on my birthday, I think it's a holiday so I should be off.

I spend a lot of time being grateful too, we still live tight in the "off season" since Tyson's hours go down but it's worth it for our family. Even the schools here rock, K gets Art, Music, PE, library, and technology classes. There are not many places left where schools offer all those things.

  13. I think #9 is my favorite. Looks like a blast vacation and Boomer hates the water too. We took him once, dragged him into the water and he was not having it. Your pugs are so cute being all tuckered out!

  14. Birthdays call for ice cream ANY time of the day, multiple times during the day :)
I want your dogs life! :)
.. I also want an outdoor shower now!
Vacation coffee is ALWAYS the best!

  18. They look so cute so tuckered out. Sunrises and sunsets will never get old. Birthdays totally mean ice cream is allowed as many times as needed. Looks like a fabulous vacation.

  23. Outdoor showers are the best! And ugh this heat needs to go! I was going to go to the lake this weekend but I just don't think I can handle being outside in this nasty heat!

  24. I hate myself for this...but I would pay a lot of money for a good non-humid 70 degree day right now. We basically have had the same weather every damn day since we moved in June. I WANT TO NOT SWEAT AND HAVE NON-FRIZZY HAIR. Fucking Florida. Remind me of this in January when it's super nice. Sorry to violate your no whining magnet :(

So totally not part of anything you wrote in the post, but is Philly really going to pretty much shut down when the pope arrives? Or are people making it into more of a disaster than it will actually be WTF are people supposed to do?

  25. I LOVE that The boys weren't shy of the water, but I don't blame pretty girl Mae for steering clear. Lol! Great pics of the dogs - they looked wiped the F out!

  27. Outdoor showers really are amazing though. And it's one of those things unique to shore babies that other people just don't understand and make us sound crazy, but for real. Outdoor showers trump everything. Glad you guys had a great week in Cape May!
