Thursday Thoughts - at the onset of vacation

1. Today I'll be here if you need me.
via
2. I'm not sorry to be on vacation when the World Meeting of Families is going on in Philly. Thanks to my dog sitters for staying at our house and holding down the fort, our neighbors for watching out, and our wedding anniversary for coinciding with this sure to be crap show in the city. Blog posts will be up most of next week but comments won't be replied to until I return. If we're in wifi range to share photos on the road, they'll be on my favorite form of social media: Instagram. Mine or MFD's...who only uses instagram during trips. LOL I do not feel bad about blowing IG up with photos on vacation. Not sorry in advance.

3. I don't like how my nails feel after getting gel on them, but I always do it for vacations because these suckers do last. I am not ready for vacation until my nails are.

4. What packing for this trip looked like...I used the eBags packing cube system. I've been using them all summer for shorter trips and I cannot say enough about these bags, especially if you aren't unpacking, which we aren't. We're basically taking an outfit and pajamas into the hotel each night since we're moving around a lot. This is my first big trip with them and my anal retentive self thinks they are revolutionary. The left is my large suitcase and the right is my carry on (electronics/cords/camera stuff, empty glass water bottle, and down jacket and vest that fold in on themselves along with a rain jacket - basically the things I don't want to replace should something happen to big blue).
5. This is an early to bed early to rise on the go type of vacation. I'm going to return home with bags under my eyes larger than my suitcases.

6. Praise the good freaking LORD, the concrete is finished. I won't lie, I spent last night crawling around in the dark in my yard in work clothes rigging up a temporary fence with plastic and zip ties. Go on, enjoy that vision. Or the one of me moving bags of mulch out of the trunk at 4 am this morning while wearing pajamas. Our grass is destroyed and everything has to be put back in its place, but the concrete is finished. Chances of a major home project ever being done again within one month of any type of vacation is a big fat ZERO.
7. I didn't do any cooking this week so our house has been like this. See below for images I've sent to MFD. Since he doesn't  make things, we've been eating on the fly. I nearly bit his hand off for taking two pieces of my cheese and crackers meal on Tuesday. It's like The Hunger Games with real food in our house.
8. The weather in the beginning of the week was on point for fall. And where we're heading on this vacation is fall for sure. This makes me laugh but it's true.
9. Since you won't be seeing them next week:
10. Ecard of the week. So MFD and I have gotten into some of the worst fights ever in the car. Good thing we're celebrating our fifth wedding anniversary with a massive road trip, no? LOLOL If we don't kill each other in the car on this trip, we will be married beyond the grave for sure.

Comments will be replied to after vacation!

  5. happy vacation!! A lot of things in this post made me LOL, especially that last e-card...what is it about car rides that always lead to arguments? Haha...well in our case it is coupled with fussy children too so I think that exacerbates it all. Those bags look awesome!!!

  6. Haha! Hope you both survive the car ride. The sweater season meme is freaking hilarious and shamefully kinda true. Glad the concrete is done and temp fence complete! ;) Have a blast!

  8. What don't you like about the feel of gel nails? I like how much thicker they make my nails feel. They're a pain in the butthole to remove though, that's for sure.
No joke... Pete and I legit wrestled over a grape Popsicle last night. lol

Please KIT morning and night if possible. You are driving through the BADlands, you know! God and Goddess speed for the happiest and safest adventure. Love. Your. Momma

  11. Car fights are bad in our house. I am the driver and like to be the driver but someone is a passenger seat driver that likes to tell me what I should be doing. Road trips for us always end in arguments.

The sweater meme is so true, school drop off in the morning will vastly improve when I can go in PJ's and no bra because I can put something perfectly acceptable over it.

  14. Have an AMAZING trip, and I'm sure we'll get plenty of "Shit MFD Said" quotes from it! Love that you left off with pupper pictures, and I couldn't agree with you more that I'm not ready for vacation until my nails are. Gel is the way to go for long trips :)

  18. I always get gel nails for vacation too. Then you don't have to worry about chipping while your gone or packing polishes. Have an amazing trip! I can't wait to see all the pictures!

  20. Okay, so each little eBag has a day or two worth of outfits in them, so you can grab and go without getting everything out of your suitcase. I like this concept. I feel like I have to use this method for Europe next year since we'll be moving around so much. Thanks for sharing!

  21. have a fun time and i'm sure the puggies will miss you. also we tend to get in the worst fights in the car too. it's the worst because you can't get away from each other!

  22. I always wear whatever I slept in under my sweatshirt. Oh well.

I don't know about the fall weather here in the west. It's been in the 90s. Even up in Denver.

  25. lol the sweatshirt thing is hilarious, so true.
love your nails - such a pretty colour! i might look into gel for my next vacation because normal and shellac peel / chip immediately and i'm over that. love the ebags packing cubes! i want.
    enjoy your vacation!

  26. I don't mind the gel on, though it feels really thick, but it's what it does to my nails afterwards that kills me. They are so dry and frail and take a month to recover. I'm like you and only get them 3-4 times a year for vacations. We have the Rick Steves packing cubes and love them! I love that sweatshirt meme! Haha!

  27. I've seen a ton of your vacation pics and I'm insanely jealous. I cannot wait to see the rest, we'll definitely be chatting about your trip so I can plan mine. It's too gorgeous to not go!
