Thursday Thoughts

1. So did you guys know there are prayer candles of The Breakfast Club? Me neither. They can be yours for 70 USD.
via Etsy

2. This week's give Tuesday a purpose theme was self care: I allowed myself to sleep in, I took my time perusing all 40 of the Show Us Your Books posts and added more than 10 books to my to read list, applied a face mask (always say I'm going to do it and then just never do it) and zoned the hell out and perused Pinterest which is rare for me anymore. Easy, free, and beneficial to me this week.

3. Thanks so much to Angie for the new sidebar and social media buttons. If you have a button of mine on your sidebar and would like to update it, please do! There's new code over there. ==>>

4. I watched two of my favorites this week: Almost Famous and Wet Hot American Summer.
5. With the return of political debates and presidential elections comes the parade of women's reproductive health experts. I would like, just once, for these people to tell me to my face why they are more qualified to decide what to do with my vagina than I am. Why is my vagina a government issue? I am an intelligent, well-informed, strong, independent woman. Please DO get in my face and tell me why you know better about my body than I do. I dare you.

6. Lots of good things on the horizon.
7. Three things have been a real struggle this week...forcing myself to do weights, getting into the new Judy Blume book, and trying to keep up with dog hair.
8. Just a friendly reminder...
9. Gus enjoyed this treat for free from our pals at chewy.com this week. It actually wasn't that long lasting, but he did like it.
10. Ecard of the week:

Do you have any Thursday Thoughts to share with the class?

  1. I <3 Almost Famous, but I haven't seen Wet Hot American Summer. Am I totally missing out?

I may have thrown stuff at Rubio (sadly, just the TV) when he came out with his "Nah, just let the women suffer" bs. It would be lovely if nobody ever wanted/needed an abortion, but that's just not going to be reality in our lifetime, so dudes need to suck it up and realize that keeping it safe and legal keeps women from resorting to desperate things.

Uh, I kinda feel ways about stuff.

  2. 38 links? I think I only read 33. I gotta go check out the others!

I had quite a chuckle thinking about someone actually getting in your face to tell you what to do with your vagina. I'm still laughing as I type about it.

I'm pretty sure we could have a movie marathon together as I've discovered many movies that we are both fans of...Urban Cowboy, Grease 2, and Almost Famous come to mind. In fact, if I had a night watching these three movies in a row, I would go to bed a happy girl.

  3. I'm not super tuned in with your election happenings, but anyone who wants to talk down to me about my vagina (or any thing about my body, actually) can naff off. Especially if they don't have one themselves. I love your countdown chalkboard! That would guarantee a smile for me on miserable Monday mornings.

  4. That superpower is something I crave for.

  5. the fact that abortion/reproductive rights are part of the american political campaign(s) baffle me. esp since canadian politics are your ol' run-of-the-mill "save the environment" (lies), "help impoverished families by (insert lies here)", "we won't tax your ass" (biggest lie of all) but nothing about reproductive shizz because they know it's our bidness.

and tuesday self-care? a must. i do that every sunday and it's wonderful!

  6. I love that you took time for yourself on Tuesday!!! That is awesome! I do the same thing with face masks, always good intentions but never deliver to myself to actually do it. When I figure out how to absorb other peoples healthy actions for my own benefit, I will share the knowledge.

    ReplyDelete
  7. YES. I would love to absorb others health benefits from just watching. People watching IS my fave sport! We have watched one episode of Wet Hot American Summer and I loved it (just haven't had time to watch more).

  8. You're always so on point with shit. Claps for your vagina monologue.
Cute new button! I need to give my entire shit a facelift.

  9. I feel like I missed the memo on Hot Wet American Summer, I see it's huge on Netflix but have no clue what it even is.

A voting season, my least favorite season of all. Yes to me choosing for me though, I have a kid and yet I'm still pro-choice. My CHOICE was to have a kid but why should it have to be anyone's choice?

  16. I have the hardest time finding healthier dog chews that last more then 5 minutes... sigh...

Those Breakfast Club candles - oh my gosh! That's too funny!

    ReplyDelete
  17. Errrrrr... Breakfast Club prayer candles!?!?! $70?!? Wtf. Clearly there is a demand for them or they wouldn't exist.
Who am I kidding... I have the entire set! Haha!

  18. Those candles are amazing, and loving your chalkboard for trip countdowns. I definitely need that in my house :-D

    ReplyDelete
  19. lol i want that super power as well!
    $70?! holy mackerel.
ugh that sucks about the judy blume book. someone else mentioned that and now i'm dreading starting it. womp womp.
pretty new button! i updated your face on my side bar.

  20. I'm nervous to start the Judy Blume book, but it's on my shelf and I'm going to give it a try. You have so many exciting trips coming up. I'm jealous. Also, those Breakfast Club candles are awesome - but that's too expensive...

  21. I want, nay, NEED that shirt. Same with the Breakfast Club candles.

    Amen and preach on #5!

    ReplyDelete
  22. Soo that shirt reminded me...
I was having dinner with Ginger Beard last week and I something was done "good" and he commented, "well." I let it go. Whatever. This past week we were having dinner at his house and I said the same thing and he corrected me AGAIN! Again, I continued what I was saying and added at the end, "You just be glad I don't 'seen' things, I 'see' things." He had no response. At the 3rd time, he's out. He doesn't know it yet, but we've not known each other long enough for him to be correcting my grammar outloud. Nnnnope.

  23. So funny because we were just talking about Wet Hot American Summer last night and I had no idea that there's a Netflix series. Love that ecard, and LMAO at the Breakfast Club candles!

  24. If I were the type of person who was able to feel comfortable spending $70 on something frivolous, I would SO BE BUYING THOSE CANDLES.
#5, yes. Election season makes me want to have a personal little sit-down chit chat with everyone out there to explain why no one but my doctor and me should decide what happens inside my body, and why that really shouldn't be a difficult concept to grasp.

    ReplyDelete
  25. I want that superpower too haha. And YES to the pro choice...I hate when people assume that pro choice means pro abortion.

    ReplyDelete
  26. On Sunday Steve and I watch Hot Wet American Summer the movie, and then Monday night we binged on all the Netflix shows. Hilarious, what a stellar fucking cast.
I totally agree w/ Pro-Choice does not insinuate Pro-Abortion. But give us the damn right to choose, every woman's situation is different.

  27. Self care is so important, and it's probably the one thing many of us neglect most often. I've been making an effort to set aside some time for myself every day for something I love: reading, yoga, blogging, trying a new recipe, etc. This has really helped me feel less stressed and much happier in general.

I completely agree with #5. I can't wrap my head around the fact that so many people think it's okay for them to make decisions (and judgments) about what women do with their bodies. It's just so frustrating.

I love the shirt and the new sidebar!

  28. Those candles are hilarious! I haven't watched Almost Famous in forever, i need to bust out my DVD this weekend. The chew was devoured by Seamus too. I need to catch-up on the book posts so I can add a bajillion books.

    ReplyDelete
  29. those candles!! it was on last night after sixteen candles, and of course i watched them both instead of packing. AF is one of my fave movies--i wrote to cameron crowe once and he sent me a signed copy of the script and a bunch of other stuff over the years. the last items was a signed book from his movie Elizabethtown. that movie is not my fave, hehe. oh yes, i am a grammar nerd as well. i am a lazy capitalizer of words on comments however.

  30. I can't with the candles this morning. I just can't. I fully approve of your self care Tuesday activities... particularly the increased reading list. What's not to love about that?! I love the new button with all the pugs wandering around... it's a pretty good capture of their personalities in ONE PHOTOGRAPH!

  31. Oh my! I must have that t-shirt! And Africa?!?! What's going on there!!! Did I miss something?

    ReplyDelete
  32. Your tuesday sounds AMAzing and I'm totally jealous. My Tuesday was a nightmare and a half. My weekend todo is to peruse all the "show us your books" posts to find new ones! I absolutely love your new sidebar image!! perfect for you!

  33. WAIT, did I miss that you're going to Africa? Please explain!

  34. Sounds like you had a good mental health day. I'm just now catching up on the link up from Tuesday. It's great that you had 40 people link up.

  35. I love that superpower. It would be amazing! Also those are two of my favorite movies. Just saying! Your mental health day sounds like paradise. I wonder if I could talk my husband into letting me have a day like that....I need it!
