Things that happened this week

1. I made a healthy shamrock shake. That is a lie. I made a healthy shake (handful of baby spinach, frozen banana, cup of ice, teaspoon of vanilla) and added peppermint to it so it tasted minty. It did not in any way taste like a shamrock shake.
2. We finally watched the finale of Parks and Rec and I cried. More than once. I'll miss you Pawnee!

3. Self tanning started back up. My products of choice are Jan Marini Bioglycolic Sunless Self Tanner for my face and Banana Boat Summer Color Self-Tanning Lotion for my body. The Jan Marini is worth the price - it doesn't clog my pores or make me look orange, I don't find the odor offensive, and I look like I have some color without the sun damage and old lady wrinkles that accompany the real thing. As always, exfoliate like a boss before applying any self tanner or you'll come out looking like a freaky streaky Oompah Loompah.
4. My friend Kelly from Boston sent me TWO containers of the sacred sea salt caramels from Whole Foods that you can't get here to kick off my birthday month. Hallelujah and amen. Thank you Kelly!

5. It cracks me up when people on Facebook who are frequent riders of the hot mess express switch gears and post statuses giving grandiose life advice to the world. That time would be better spent getting your own house in order, am I right? And, I don't know, when you're losing your shit maybe the first place you turn shouldn't be the facespace. If you need to let it all hang out, text your best friend. As the song goes, that's what friends are for. That is not, however, what Facebook is for.

6. Birthday month treat yoself from LOFT and Old Navy Outlets. My LOFT purchases were supposed to be $156 and were $76 after sales and my birthday month coupon. I had stuff to return to Old Navy, so I paid nothing for these and have a credit leftover. Winning. I'm glad I checked out the outlets of both stores.
7. If you follow me on Instagram you are quite familiar with my Saturday and Sunday (and vacation) coffee mug photos. So I thought I'd show you MFD's mug of choice recently. That's right. My Dirty Dancing mug from Kerry. He seeks it out and he's proud of it.
8. Ice. Snow. Bullshit. Tuesday night sucked for ice and Thursday I worked from home due to snow. I'm quite thankful I have the ability to work from home in inclement weather. My train line went down numerous times during the time I'd be commuting home.
9. Pros to working from home: quiet, lots of projects get done that I never seem to find time for in the office, can work in pajamas, nicely scented tarts and candles, don't lose two hours of the day to commuting, can lounge on the couch and watch a show and have freshly made naan pizza for lunch, MFD makes breakfast, overall more gets done. Cons: furry coworkers are alternately lazy, needy, and barky.
10. This is like a delayed Thursday Thoughts post, isn't it? So then a weekly e-card seems appropriate. Link up with me & Jana for Show Us Your Books on Tuesday!

Now lay it on me - what happened with you this week? Good, bad, ugly...I want to hear about it!

  2. The not a shamrock shake killed me! I need to get the self-tanner going too I am looking quite zombie-esque. The fact that MFD is seeking out the mug lets me know he is awesome! :) You scored some awesome deals! That e-card is everything, and so very true!!

  4. i've been making spinach + all the greens i can cram in there smoothies lately. doesn't smell good at all but i add a little sweetener and it's doable. but i feel i need to step up my game with the peppermint. and actually go to the grocery store and add fruit.

  5. I may be embracing the self tanner this season. It will keep me out of the tanning booth at the gym. Much healthier alternative. Have a great weekend!

  6. My favorite things? Sunshine, fresh flowers, travel. :-)

  7. I seriously need to rejoin the world of self-tanning. It's...a scary site my pasty white legs!

  8. Oh, I didn't even think about hitting the LOFT outlet to use my birthday coupon! Good call. I am sooooo ready for spring.

  9. You are starting the self-tanning early!! I have never used the deep dark tan color, only fair to medium skin option.
Amen on facebook woe is me posts. Many times I think it is loneliness or the need for attention. Nice stuff from your Franklin Mills walk! Very glad you worked from home yesterday and wish you were home today. The big thaw begins tomorrow. Extra lights and angels to all traveling in modes of transportation or walking.

  10. Sorry to be a big bummer but this week has sucked! The weather is depressing. I'm pretty sure my daughter has the flu now. I still haven't heard back from a job interview that I *thought* went so well. Something under our kitchen sink is leaking so that's going to be another expense to add to the growing list. I'll stop being the debbie downer now. Love all the clothes you got! Hope you have a great weekend!

  11. i love that reading ecard :)
that greentop in the right hand corner from loft - i think i got the same one in purple :) i didn't know you could get birthday month coupons, i don't think loft sent me one - rude.
thats so awesome you were able to work from home - we had a snow day so i didn't have to work, though unfortunately (or fortunately?) there is not a whole lot i can do from home.
now i want a shamrock shake.

  13. Man, if there was one phrase to sum up my past month, it would be "Ice. Snow. Bullshit."

What is this magical birthday month discount at Loft? This sounds like something I need in my life. And ooh, Tuesday linkup means I really should finish up the "what I've been reading post" that's been in my drafts folder for 29857 years so I can join in and be one of the cool kids!

  14. I'm not a fan of the shamrock shake, but I have gotten back on the smoothie train this week. Something about the influx of spring (err, March...definitely not feeling like spring). I have myself on a clothing-spending-freeze but LOFT is always my drug of choice when it comes to online clearance shopping.

  15. I stopped at McD's yesterday for a decaf and that damn Shamrock shake was staring me in the face at the drive thru. I get one every year, tradition. I think I will try to make my own though so thanks for the inspiration! Cute out outfits finds... loving all your color choices!

Oh the joys of FB peeps:)

  16. Score on the Loft and Old Navy finds....I wish we had an Old Navy Outlet!! No fair...but what is fair is that I am not battling all the snow and ice...hang in there...it's gotta end soon, right?

  17. The Parks and Rec finale was perfect. Simply perfect.

Barky and needy coworkers are definitely downfalls of working at home but still better than people most days. Winter needs to go. Pronto.

  18. That teal shirt from Loft is adorable? Are those the Pixie pants from Old Navy? If so, do you like them?

  19. I'd try that shake.

    Cute clothes you got!

  20. That smoothie looks really really good. I haven't tried making a green one yet but love the addition of mint. Love working from home (which eliminates the commute) but I have the same problem with Lola nibbling on toes and demanding attention. She has to go in the crate if I need to seriously get anything done. Love all the purchases for Bday months! ON pants look comfy!

  21. Ooooh a healthy shamrock shake, sign me up :-D

And don't even get me started on the hot messes on FB, it still blows my mind how some people post what they do. Hence why I rarely use it anymore lol.

    Happy Friday gurlie <3

  22. My furry coworkers always end up needy when I am trying to work too! I am loving MFD using your dirty dancing mug! Chris chooses Snoopy from our cabinet. I LOVE Loft outlet!!! That laced blue tank top and necklace look like things I have purchased from mine. And I need some self tanners, I will have to check yours out. Time to get un-pasty! Have a great weekend!

  23. NUMBER FIVE DOE. Yes x 1gazillion. I want to pin your non Shamrocky Shake so they can have a rude awakening! Happy birth month beginning!!!

  24. Your co workers might be lazy but they are stinking cute!!

  25. How's the Banana Boat self tanner? Smell ok? I have one that I like but it is a bit pricey so if that is good I would try it but I hate the smell of most of them!

  26. The Parks & Rec finale was so good. I really liked how they did it. Although it's now inspired me to go back and watch the entire series again haha. Love the necklace from Loft! Nice haul.

  27. This past week was GLORIOUS - I was coming down with a flu but killed that shiet with Zicam, I only went into the office ONCE and the rest was spent working from home besides Wednesday which I took a sick day to sleep off the virus that was coming down. I also work from home tomorrow so the glory continues and I couldn't be happier. Oh and #5 is SPOT ON. I don't even know what to tell these people on the Facesphere that are rambling on about their mishaps and then trying to tell others how to live a better life - turn off your account and get your life together G! Have a great weekend and hope your birthday glory continues Stephanie! -Iva

  28. I need to start self tanning. I'm the whitest I've ever been since moving down to Texas. I would love to work from home. It sounds lovely.

  29. Yay for working from home! I haven't had a shamrock shake in so long that I can't remember what it tastes like, but I'm sure it'd be fairly easy with some vanilla protein powder, spinach, and mint. If only I could use protein powder while pregnant. Boo.

  30. Love that you're treating yourself for your birthday month. Looks like you got some good stuff too.
"Facespace" (good one) is not the place for a meltdown. write that shit in a journal or something people.
And love that MFD loves the mug!!

  31. I've started my self tan routine up again! Do you like the jan Marin? I will basically try anything and everything. That mug is awesome. Gotta treat yourself for your birthday month!!

    ReplyDelete
  32. That mug! I just love fun, quirky mugs.
Hooray for great deals while shopping.
Also, I am so sick of the ice and snow bull...it needs to stop. I'm over it.

  33. me and self tanner do not mix well. I hate putting lotion on, rubbing it in. I don't have patience for that. and then to wait for it to dry? ugh makes me shudder lol

    ReplyDelete
  34. I need some color DESPERATELY. Even the lightest of concealers is too dark for me right now! lol
At least the lazy furry co-workers are cute!
