Fall goals

Fall represents a digging in to me: time to pause and take stock, to return to serious pursuits, to prepare for the oncoming winter, to find soul sustenance for the darkness I'll soon see more than the daylight. Since I function best within a routine, I welcome the return to it after the lazy, let it fly, it can wait, set adrift summer. I always relished the return to order and discipline that back to school represented, and that's no different even though I last returned to school as an undergrad in the fall of 1998. I do not relish the lack of daylight, that is truly the dingleberry on the ass of fall and winter for me. So until the clocks turn, I'll be soaking in every available second of daylight that I can. Here are some other things I'll be doing this fall:

1. Major wardrobe overhaul - both summer and winter - all clothes and shoes, special occasion clothes, everything down to socks. Purge, update, and upgrade. And dry clean the winter coats while I'm at it.

2. Get up 15 minutes earlier three days a week.

3. Stretch every night before bed.

4. Daily dog walk unless it's raining

5. Try new recipes: one new app, main dish, veggie side, Sunday soup, dessert, and pie crust/pie from scratch.

6. Outdoors:
       a) Clear out both sheds and find new storage for cushions
       b) Winterize flower beds
       c) Major cleanup of side yard
       d) Pray for Yard Crashers to materialize as I'm working my ass off and fending off spiders

7. Go see a beach sunrise at the shore.

8. October wallet watch.

9. Vacuum/wash window treatments and clean baseboards.

10. Take my car in for a tune up.

What's on your to do list this fall?

  1. Okay your list is more productive than mine. Mine is mostly food. Haha! I really need to purge my clothes too while doing a wallet watch.

  2. Your wallet watches are always when I am traveling but this time I think it might be good timing as it will be right before I travel.... hmm. I could stand a grounding in October. Feel free to send any clothing rejects my way.

  3. Sending Yard Crashers vibes your way... even better would be for Ahmed to be leading the crew! :-D

  4. dammit, the october wallet watch is happening when i'm in orlando and spending all kinds of money! :( ok, if you end up doing one in january, i'm all over that.

  5. JMJ, I get in the hibernation mode this time of year. I should be a bear. Maybe I would wake up 20 lbs thinner.
I want to have a happily flowing, lovely fall. Accomplishing everything we need and want to accomplish easily on a daily basis. Serenity, etc. Having the upstairs with Sean at college, I have tailgate stuff and Halloween decorations out.
I have that nice luxury. I need to get a MOG dress very soon and get Gamma something to wear. The wedding will be here before we know it. Godspeed to all of us.
Chilly now, but sunny. Warmer later. Carpe Diem. Love your MOMMA

  6. I need a to-do list/goals list for the fall. Maybe making the list should be #1. Happy Tuesday!

  7. When time changes I'm going to start getting up early with the dogs again, it stays dark to long now and if I have to deal with very little light I want to soak it all up.

I keep thinking before that happens I need to check out a beach sunrise but it rains every damn weekend here right now!

  8. I love when you do these season goals. They're my fave. I think I am going to start doing some sort of quarterly goal post to keep myself accountable. Also, yes to no spend Octover!

  9. I need to start doing to do lists for seasons, great idea. I love the stretching before bed - I want to start doing yoga before bed. I do sometimes but I want to do it more regularly. We bought our house last December, so this will be the first fall & winter we actually have to prepare for, I don't know how to winterize things but we certainly need to (right?).

  10. I like these seasons lists rather than monthly lists. I need to set up some type of budget for October too because I have so many things going on I don't want to go overboard.

  11. You're so good with your goals, I need to think of some too and stick with them! Thanks for the motivation!

  12. All good stuff, I am right there with you on almost all of these. Hmmmm... I think I need to finish my list lol. Am I the only weirdo that likes it when it gets dark early? More reasons to hibernate and be reclusive... count me in:)

  13. Your language is so descriptive! "dingleberry on the ass of"

I have tons of goals, but what I most want to do right now is organize. I have too much random junk and I'd rather get to the point where everything has a place it belongs and get rid of the rest. Plus, uncluttering is kind of fun sometimes, when you get in the ruthless mindset and start purging everything!

  14. i really like the get up 15 minutes early one. i need to do that. ok. i'm doing it. fine.

  15. Ugh, I just got a tune up for $800! October wallet watch is a must for me too! I also need to purge my closet. I ran out of hangers the other day and since I have 160 I refuse to buy more, so some things must go! Organizing and purging the whole house is my main fall goal.

  16. A major overhaul of clothing is on my to-do list this fall. When I make the switch to winter clothing in the next week or two I'm planning on donating a big bag of clothes to the Vietnam Vets. If all my laundry was done at the same time (not like it ever is) I wouldn't have enough room in my closet and drawers to fit my clothes. That's a problem. Ha.

  17. Great list. I love lists.

  19. Bruce! he sure can sing.
Someone does all his yard work.
    I wish they'd do mine...

  20. Great list. I really need to stretch before bed too. I was just thinking yesterday how I need to schedule time in morning and night to do that so I don't feel like a wreck! I agree that fall is the time to buckle down and prepare for winter. You're depressing me a little mentioning how soon the darkness will be here! Eeeeeek Winter is coming!

  21. My car definitely needs a tune-up AND a bath... and soon! Hoping to keep overhauling out closets as well. We sold and then donated a good amount a few weeks ago, but sadly there is still more to sort through!

  22. i love the "get up 15 minutes earlier." that's totally me. i wait until the last minute, but it really does help in the mornings!

  23. I need to get my fall to do list up and going. I sort of sucked ass on my summer one and I started working on the results last night and it wasn't pretty! Which day is the fitness goal link up? I know that is coming up!!!

Why do spiders always have to ruin my yard work fun? I mean seriously.....GO AWAY!

  24. WALLET WATCH!!! Yes. This time I'm going to try to get my husband on board, too. Maybe we can each have a spending money allowance for the month and other than that, be really strict. Hmm...

    ReplyDelete
  25. I haven't washed or cleaned inside my car since Jack was born. I probably need an oil change too. I haven't worked out since January. I am a hot mess over here!

  26. The Wallet Watch is while I'm away spending allthemoolah. Gah! I'll have to buckle down in November. Wardrobe overhaul is on my list as well. Happy Fall and good luck!

  27. Dang, this is a pretty legit list. I ought to dry clean some of my coats as well. . :] // itsCarmen.com ☼ ☯

  28. Hahahaha... Yard Crashers! Can't tell you how many times I've fantasized about shit like that happening.
    I'm excited for wallet watch!

  29. You had me at Sade. OK, well, you had me at the beginning of the post, but Sade was the clincher. Smooooth Operator. Sorry, it's 9pm and Adam Levine is on the TV.... that's all I got.

  30. Love your list of goals. I need to make one to hold myself accountable. I like the idea of waking up 15 minutes earlier but it's SO hard lol. Traffic has been outrageous so it would be beneficial. We usually update our little flower bet but I've fell off the bandwagon with that one too. Good things to think about.

  31. I like that list. I should really start stretching more regularly. Every night is a good idea.

  32. I really need to get up earlier......dry shampoo has made me lazy. Stretching is so important and it so good for your mind right before settling in for bed. Great list! I really need to sit down and get going on one. Thanks for the reminder!

  33. During the day, 15 minutes is nothing. In the morning, it's eternity. Good luck.
