TWTW - my best friend's wedding edition

How to sum up a four day long celebration of love and friendship? I was busy zipping around and not taking a ton of photos so I apologize if I double up on any pics I posted on Instagram or Facebook.

Thursday's trek to Salem ended up being a 7 hour trip. I stopped to see Kerry from Til Then, Smile Often on the way. It was great to see her in person even if it was only for a 15 minute pit stop! She's just as nice and funny as she appears on her blog. Other on the way things: 1 - I threw my debit card in the trash can at a gas station. An old lady came out and asked if I needed help. I said, "Nope! All set." She said, "Well at least you're wearing sharp slacks as you're digging around in the trash."  2 - I had to pee against a tree in an emergency situation after hellacious traffic. It's been a while.
This song was playing as I almost wet my pants in awful traffic.  Appropriate.
When I arrived in Salem, I checked in to The Hawthorne Hotel - fabulous location and I loved our room. Kim's brother treated us to dinner at Victoria Station on Pickering Wharf. It was the groom's birthday so we had cake in the hotel lobby for him (sent from PA with love from my mom) then Kim, Steve, and I banged back way too many beers in the lobby and one at The Old Spot across the street. I then may or may not have made them pose in the dark in front of the witch museum and just in the middle of the street for kicks. I got to sleep around 2:30.
Friday dawned early for mani pedis with Kim, her Mom, sister-in-law, and niece, followed by a nice outdoor lunch with Kim, Steve, and Kelly at Scratch Kitchen. My burger was great, the wine was perfect,  the waitress who spent three minutes telling me and Kim her bra ripped and her boob was exposed was hilarious.
We all split up after lunch. I strolled around the wharf area, had a lot of iced coffee, checked out the awesome flowers and found Boston-area appropriate litter. Jaho Coffee was my home away from home. I adored their iced coffee.
MFD arrived via plane and the rest of our crew trickled in in various forms. We did the rehearsal at the church followed by a lovely dinner at The Adriatic courtesy of Steve's mom.
The rehearsal dinner after party was at Rockafella's where we caught up with many others in town for the wedding, dealt with a serial area-clearing farter, and were exposed to 21 year old fashion sense. The latter two were not pretty. Nor is closing time at a bar (1 a.m. in Salem), which I saw for the first time in years.
Friends from high school, college, jobs, old neighbors, etc etc...and the two people not drinking raiding the wine cabinet
Saturday morning MFD and I had breakfast at the famous Red's Sandwich Shop.
Wedding prep time was upon us, and the girls got hair and makeup done in Kim's room over lunch and World Cup soccer.
Go time came really  fast as it always does, and before you know it we were off in a limo to the church.
Thanks to KVSR for room & limo picks and the chalkboard sign
The prelude had some miscues from the Church staff that provided laughs and levity, and the ceremony was really nice - touching and heartfelt. Wedding party pics and then reception time. I did my speech (least favorite thing to do ever) and we ate, drank, laughed, and danced the night away. It was a lot of fun.
Thanks to Mr. & Mrs. S for a great party and a great brunch before we hit the road on Sunday. MFD and I were on dork patrol in our unintentionally matching outfits. The ride home wasn't too bad but teleportation would always be preferable. I was fast asleep by 8:30. This weekend took it out of me. I loved being around my friends and their husbands and Kim & Steve's families and friends. So many great laughs and more memories made.
Kim has been one of my best friends for over 20 years. It was an honor to stand beside her on this amazing day and to experience the whole weekend with her.
I'm so happy Kim and Steve have found each other. I love you guys! Congratulations.
Tomorrow? Vacuums. We're getting domestic up in here this week. Love, marriage, vacuums.

  12. Well...that's annoying. I left a lengthy comment which was not posted. So I will start again. I love this post. I love weekends like this with "framily". A lot of my friends are local, but Jason's are all over, so when they get together it's the best time, ever like this. I died at the slacks and trash digging comment...so did you find your debit card? Or was it never lost, just in the trash (been there before)?

  27. OMG the matching outfits...I died. Also the old lady commenting on your slacks being fine attire for rummaging through the trash. Fabulous. Beautiful photos and life long friends.

  28. WOW, sounds like an amazing weekend! You look so lovely in your bride's maid dress. I'm tired after just reading about it :) You sure do keep it real...love that, no smoothing over the farting or other mishaps :)

  29. What a fun weekend! I love your MOH dress! I wish I had more time to explore Salem when we went. Everything shut down at 5:00 on a Saturday! Also, closing time at bars in all of Washington is 2 am. Is that odd? I know NYC is 5:00 am, but thought that was a weird exception to the rule.

  30. This is a huge venue with high quality atmosphere; they have really abstract but great design. What more can I say? I want to come back again to this place!
