Weird things I worry about more than I should

Yo ho ho. Today I'm co-hosting the Hump Day Blog Hop with Liz @ Fitness Blondie and I'm talking about some weird fears. I think about all of these things way more than I should:

via
1. Falling down the stairs
2. My teeth up and breaking for no reason while they're just sitting in my mouth
3. The straps of my bag snapping and breaking as I'm rushing through the train station
4. Being trapped in an elevator or another small space with a lot of people
5. Missing a deadline or forgetting to do something crucial at work
6. Getting a flat tire when I'm far from home
7. Getting appendicitis
8. Someone breaking into my house when I'm home
9. Being falsely accused and imprisoned for something I didn't do
10. Dropping my keys or phone down a sidewalk grate
11. Dropping a knife on my foot while cooking or unloading the dishwasher AND cutting myself while chopping...so basically knives? Even though I recognize them as the number one kitchen tool.
12. Being positive I left my car or house without locking them when in fact that never happens
13. Everything about the dentist
14. Wood or anything else falling off of a big ass truck in front of me and going through my windshield, impaling me
15. My house burning down for any number of reasons, none of which are rooted in reality
16. Clowns

Your turn. Name your irrational fears.

To relieve any stress thinking about irrational fears has caused you and because it's tax month, I'm giving away a Bath & Body Works stress relief box in my favorite scent - eucalyptus spearmint from the Aromatherapy line. The winner gets hand soap, smoothing scrub, body wash, body cream, and a three-wick candle all in eucalyptus spearmint. Good luck & godspeed. 1. oh my gosh...so many of the same.
the two most noted likes though - the falling up or down the stairs - we have spiral staircase up to our room and I have these horrible visions often.
House burning down, YES YES YES!

  2. Best stress reliever - reading mainly but either curled up in blankets and be all comfy or outside sitting in the sun reading laying back

  3. Best stress reliever would be to blog. Writing does it for me!

Oh, and the teeth thing? Totally happens to me. Have you had oral surgery before?

    ReplyDelete
  4. A glass of wine and a blog post, or hugs and cuddles from my kiddos!

    ReplyDelete
  5. It used to be a glass of wine :( Now, Target (until I spend too much on random shit)

I am irrationally afraid of going to prison; probably because I teach our corrections classes so am pretty much thinking/talking about it every day. I worry about our dryer or dishwasher sparking a fire (I guess this is a legit concern?) so refuse to run either while we are gone or when we go to bed. I am irrationally afraid of basements, especially unfinished or dark and scary ones. Our basement is totally finished and not at all scary, and I still don't like going down there by myself or when I am home alone.

  6. Probably a walk or a glass of wine.

I have an irrational fear of the inside of my kitchen cupboards collapsing or the cupboards just falling off the wall because the shelves are too heavy with dishes. 3 houses in 4 years and it's been my fear in every kitchen!

    ReplyDelete
  7. My irrational fear is falling through a grate on the road. I will practically walk into traffic to avoid standing on one. My best stress reliever is going outside for a walk or run.

    ReplyDelete
  8. The house burning down is a fear of mine since my Dad's actually burned down awhile ago. I have a weird fear of dying young and if people would miss me. I love to be outdoors in nature to relieve stress so biking, hiking, kayaking or a walk helps reduce stress for me.

  9. stopping by from the link up!!! I always and worried I lock my keys in the house w. my daughter inside

  10. I share the teeth & the projectile coming through windshield with you oh and going to jail wrongly accused. I add while driving on the turnpike going over an embankment that drops into a ravine, forgetting my wallet and finding out at the store (which is not irrational as I switched purses before and did this), being buried alive, falling off the edge of a roof, pythons and boa constrictor snakes that do not live here showing up here, snakes coming in the house, snakes falling out of trees, being a field goal kicker, the third string quarter back, the relief pitcher being called in to win the game, makes me feel sick every time it happens on t.g., I have a reoccurring dream I am back in H.S. and it is time to graduate but I did not go to any classes.

  11. Linky Cat pissed on our bathroom rug again, and I have a Eucalyptus Spearmint candle buring as we speak!!! Fucking cat. Anywho, I have a big fear of getting hit by a drunk driver in the dark farm roads around my house. A drunk driver killed two people 10 seconds from our house a few months ago, I'm totally freaked now. I have a fear of crickets. I always think I forgot to shut the garage door, and I end up driving back to the house to check- it is ALWAYS closed. I used to have scary nursings dreams, like I didnt see any patients in an entire 12 hours shift and they all died. I'm scared of electricity- hairdryer falling in a full sink, plugging stuff in with wet hands.

    ReplyDelete
  12. I have a fear of burning down my house too! I feel like it's gotten substantially worse since I got a cat. It's like, I could care less about my house. But the cat getting stuck in a burning apartment? That's where I draw the line. Maternal instinct? Lol

  13. It's not really irrational because it's a total possibility now but I'm scared a hurricane is going to come and blow my freaking house away.

    ReplyDelete
  14. So happy you're cohosting!

Andrew got appendicitis that went undiagnosed so now I am super paranoid and it seems that the majority of people who get it get it before age 30. So 7 more months and I am in the clear. Maybe this will calm your fears?

I am always afraid I left the straightener or something on and I will burn down my house accidentally. I'm afraid I will bring something into the house or on the floor that the cat will eat and he will die. Surely there are more but I don't want to overthink them and be scared the rest of the day!

And as far as stress relief, I have realized I am a ranter. I just need to get it out. Other women may cry, I just need to yell and get it out and I feel better!

  15. definitely falling down the stairs. i've done that when i was in high school and it was embarrassment for days. also: spiders falling on my head - i know the smell my fear and always crawl towards me; kayla getting kidnapped (OMFG my worst fear ever) and running out of gas and getting stranded. this is why i always fill the tank even if it's at half because you never know!

    thanks for linking up :)

  16. Best stress reliever - laying in a quiet, dark room listening to music.

    1. Sarah - good one! I like to lay in a quiet lit room and read too.

  17. Driving over a bridge with no shoulder. Thinking if I go over can I get my kids car seats unlocked quick enough to save them. Sharks! Sharks! Sharks! They only need 3 feet of water & all those teeth.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Love this post! I have a lot of the same fears. I definitely think about the house burning down, and how I would get all the kids out, and also being trapped in an elevator. Another one is I'm extremely afraid of dying in a car accident...I've never even been in one and have no idea where this fear comes from. I have a lot more...but this is just what comes to mind right now.

  19. I know a good stress reliever, endorphin-producer.EXERCISE. I am almost 58, have time, why don't I then, do it regularly??
Something happening to my loved ones is the worst, especially my chickens. I immediately start surrounding them with lights and angels when I get that feeling. Needles, such a sissy about needles, blood tests, blood. Snakes, worms. Heights creep me out a bit. Wearing my glasses while going down the steps distorts the steps for me.
I try not to fear. Fear knocked at the door, faith answered, no one was there.(in one of my fortune cookies, once)
    Live fearless! Love your MOMMA

  20. YES to getting impaled by flying debris!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Do you also avoid driving anywhere fucking NEAR those semis that haul cars/trucks?! EEEEEEPPPPP!
Best stress reliever: a cold pop and Tupac on BLAST. Not kidding at all.

    ReplyDelete
  21. oh man,i have so many irrational fears it's not even funny. I'll just say that i blogged abut it once and that was enough (jk I could probably do 100 posts about it)
    stress reliever, wine and sleep!

    ReplyDelete
  22. I share most of those fears. Another huge one I have is getting my arm slammed in the door at work. We are in the middle of nowhere with nothing around so the wind is nuts. I run in the door every single time and keep my arms tucked close. And my stress relief? An ice cold beer and some doggie snuggles!

    ReplyDelete
  23. I need this :) I am constantly stressed. But for few of the reasons you worry about!

Although once I was eating a salad at dinner and my tooth broke. It was so embarrassing. And confusing. Lettuce was my downfall?

    ReplyDelete
  24. Stress reliever? Peppermint tea. It's not a cure all but it totally helps me take a deep breath and relax for a few minutes. That and my Jesus Calling devotional.

    ReplyDelete
  25. I worry about falling down the stairs or accidentally driving off the side of bridges/overpasses all the time. And there's nothing like taking the dogs for a nice long walk or a margarita on the porch to destress :)

    ReplyDelete
  26. My very best stress reliever is Cape May with my friends!

    ReplyDelete
  27. I fear snakes, math/numbers, birds, unemployment, and space travel.

    ReplyDelete
  28. I worry about almost everything on your list! I worry about one of my dogs getting loose and never coming back. Mainly Mac, Gracie would never go to far....but Mac...Mac would say peace out bitches because he is an ass! I worry that I left my straightener on EVERY day or that I left the garage door open. I worry about car accidents. I worry about deer or other big animals running out in front of me. I could go on and on....

My favorite way to relieve stress is to take a trip down to Gulf Shores Alabama and soak in the ocean/beach.

    ReplyDelete
  29. I think these are all totally rational! When other people get on the elevator, I start judging them and then praying "please don't let me get trapped with these people"

    ReplyDelete
  30. My best stress reliever is a walk outside. Fresh air clears my head!!

    ReplyDelete

    1. Me too Meg! And taking my dogs helps too because they jackass around and distract me.

  31. I'm always worried about dropping my keys and phone down the grates in the street.
    Have a great day,
    Emma.

  32. I'm with you on EVERY ONE of these! I'm at my parents for two weeks, and I'm constantly thinking about what could be going on at my house while I'm gone!

    ReplyDelete
  33. so, so happy to have you guest hosting. love u!!!

    ReplyDelete
  34. Oh man, so many of these are mine too! Also - I'm always afraid of dropping my debit card down the slit in my car where my window is when I pay the drive thru person. Because...it has happened to me. True story. Sad.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Wait, every single one of these is 100% LEGIT! I worry about all of them at least one time every day! Except instead of teeth falling out of my mouth it is ME falling and hitting my teeth on something!

    ReplyDelete
  36. Those are irrational fears?! I also have a fear of falling down staircases, but mostly spiral staircases! I also am petrified of vomit. bleh.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Irrational in that the time I spend thinking about them FAR outweighs the chance of them ever, ever happening.

      Vomit! Good one.

  37. I also fear logs impaling me on the road. Have you seen Final Destination? Forever changed the road. Anyway, a nice hot bubble bath is my fave stress reliever.

    ReplyDelete
  38. I have so many irrational fears that I had to stop reading halfway down because I just added about 4 more to my list now.... #9 i worry about that all the time!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  39. I worry about driving my car off a bridge into water and getting trapped......I blame my Mom for this one, she has one of those little hammers you can use to break your car window if this happens (like you'll be thinking rationally enough to dig through your glove compartment and find it?). Now I want one, we are nuts!

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Now I really want one of those hammers too. You guys are spreading it to me!

  40. I worry about #5 constantly. And usually I end up over thinking it, ha.

    ReplyDelete
  41. I'm also irrationally scared of something flying off a truck in front of me. I keep extra distance and go around them as soon as I can.

    ReplyDelete
  42. oh my gosh, the wood or any object falling and impaling me. I was behind a truck when a damn recliner fell off and I had to go into the ditch to miss it, all I could imagine was making the news as "death by recliner" and I love reading books and lighting candles to relax. Plus, wandering the aisles of the grocery store at 2 am. haha

    ReplyDelete
  43. Ok, #8 is actually one that really affects me. It's ridiculous. I love being home alone but if it's in the evening, I'm extremely aware of outdoor noises. And I can't shower.

    ReplyDelete
  44. The Dentist.

Dying old and alone and being one of those mummified bodies no one finds for a few years.

I used to fear falling through a grate when I was a kid, but I've porked out enough that this is no longer an issue.

I fear one of my saline boobs will spontaneously deflate, aka a flat tire of another variety.

I fear my car going off a bridge into the water. I fear a water death of any variety.

    ReplyDelete
  45. My biggest, totally irrational fear is someone being under my bed/couch and cutting my ankles if I leave my feet on the floor for too long. Like that could EVER happen.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Wine is the biggest stress reliever! Ok, ok going to the gym, sauna or spa can be great too!

    ReplyDelete
  47. My best stress reliever is a gym sesh followed by a HOT bubble bath with a glass of wine!

  48. Driving right next to those concrete K-rail dividers on the freeway freaks me out. I'm so scared I'll suddenly veer into them. Not like I normally just veer out of my lane, so I don't know why, but I change lanes to get away from them.

Oh, and tiny towns and/or driving on stretches of highway with no civilization around. They just seem like the kind of place you'll get murdered and no one will ever know...

    Sylvia

  49. I'm afraid of my house burning down when I'm not home with my dogs inside or burning down with us inside and not knowing it.

I got appendicitis, and it isn't fun. It started hurting for about a day before I went to ER. I thought it was cramps, gas, or something. When I went to the ER, I was there for FOURTEEN hours before they operated. I didn't wait all that long, but then they had to draw blood, do tests, do a CAT SCAN/x-ray or something. Even after they knew what it was, I had to wait. At that time, it stopped hurting, which means it is on the verge of bursting!!! When they operated, my appendix had pus around it and was the size of a SOFTBALL (not good!!!). The operation is supposed to take maybe 30 minutes to an hour. Well, mine took about 3 to 4 hours! I was in the hospital from Saturday to Tuesday night for it. took me probably a month to full recover. I had tons of staples down my belly button and stomach. Those hurt and pinched like a bitch.

    ReplyDelete
  50. i am deathly afraid of wood or rocks bouncing off trucks or down cliffs or something when i'm driving! and the teeth thing..i do that too!! i'm terrified that i'll just be sitting around, minding my own business, and all of a sudden my teeth are just going to crumble. yuck.

i tell you what though, the relaxation package sounds amazing. the eucalyptus spearmint is probably my favorite B&BW scent - i'm actually burning that candle right now! fingers crossed i win the package!!

    ReplyDelete
  51. 1 & 2 I can totally relate to. 7's already happened to me, and I can now see why it could be a legit fear.

    ReplyDelete
  52. I used to have a fear of falling down stairs and then learned that I DID fall down stairs when I was like 2yrs old and new at walking. No wonder I was afraid of it. I have lived in a 2 story house for 3 yrs now and no longer have that fear.

I TOTALLY agree with the pipes or wood crashing off the back of a truck and killing me until I am dead! Geez, where the heck did that fear come from? :)

    ReplyDelete
  53. I seriously have nightmares about getting caught in an elevator or it falling straight to the ground....and no clowns for me either!!! EEEEK!

    ReplyDelete
  54. I worry about getting trapped in an elevator often. I hate going in them. My husband thinks it's funny.

    ReplyDelete
  55. I used to freak every time I walked in or out of the elevator at work because people dropped their Keyes down the shaft ALL THE TIME.

    ReplyDelete
  56. Totally with you on the someone coming in my house. Too many horrific home invasion stories. I have had appendicitis, not as bad as you may think, but then again, mine was caught early. Clowns should be illegal. House fire - definitely up there. Add car jacking to my list. Armed robbery. Child being kidnapped. Here's the weird one, Lucy falling in the sewer. She never gets close, but it just freaks me out. She's so little and hole is so wide. Love this post!

  57. Is there another stress reliever

    -Heather
    I do what I want.

    ReplyDelete
  58. I hear that fear about your teeth breaking is really common! I've never had that...but getting trapped in an elevator. Biggest. Fear. Ever.

    ReplyDelete
  59. I've fallen down the stairs....twice. Not so nice.

    ReplyDelete
  60. I fear a lot of same things... Seriously! I always worry about falling down the stairs, I worry about loosing keys and I worry about cavities even though I am religious about taking care of my teeth!!

    ReplyDelete
  61. I definitely share some of those fears! To destress I always drive around listening to music.

    ReplyDelete
  62. Stress Relief for me is a good book, a hot bath and either a treat or exercise (I know - total opposites.)

    ReplyDelete
  63. I'm glad I'm not the only one who is deathly afraid of clowns and being impaled by a log while driving. To my list, I'd add getting decapitated by a ceiling fan. I used to clean for a living, and I was always afraid to do the ceiling fan. I'm a freak, I know. :)

    ReplyDelete
  64. Great giveaway! My best stress reliever is a massage, too bad it's so freaking expensive! Second best is a pedicure. :)
