Hell's Bells - Thursday Thoughts

1. I had dinner with my oldest friend and one of her daughters on Tuesday night. We've been friends for 33 years. Crazy, isn't it? We only manage to get together two or three times a year which is insane and must change. Where does time go? Weren't we just foolish little girls testing wasps by having me stick my foot into their nest in the railroad tie in my driveway? We were so sure we dominated them...until my foot was removed and they swarmed out like...well like wasps angrier than a hornet's nest.
2. Aside from that dinner, this is how my Tuesday was:
3. Nerd alert: this is always one of the happiest moments of my week.
\
4. Geege love:
5. Philly love - The Comcast Building always reflects awesome skies, LOVE Park in winter gives a clear view straight down into the Philadelphia Museum of Art (AKA Rocky steps), I always stop to admire the reflections of City Hall and the giant Clothespin in Centre Square's facade.
6. YOU GUYS. Jana, an old college friend and blogger at Jana Says, asked me to teach a webinar on social media for one week of the Bloggers Helping Bloggers course. There's some great stuff going on. If you have a blog and are looking to improve it or don't have a blog but are thinking of starting one, you might want to register.

7. Tis the season for all of us to get off of our asses and shed the holiday weight. I'm starting slow: some exercises/weights in front of the TV and walking three days a week. I'm also adding more fruits and veg, so F U Sam's for having no spinach when I went this week.
You can look in my windows and find me doing these things in front of the TV. CREEPS!
What are you doing? Have you guys visited Kathy at Vodka & Soda? She is a disciplined, down to earth fitness guru who curses like a pro. Check out her fitness tab here where she discusses her what got her started; her experiences with Killian Michaels, Insanity, p90x; and Operation Anti-Lumpiness. Kathy is a motivated mofo. You can learn the ways of the force from her.

8. If you say fuck it to exercise, you might as well make some cocktail cupcakes. Like  these five ingredient whipped cream vodka cupcakes crafted by the Cocktail Cupcake Queen, Stephanie at Not Entirely Perfect. Someone should make me these for my birthday which is now a mere 58 days away. Or you could make me the Irish Car Bomb Cupcakes, because let's be honest I'm woefully out of practice in the actual drinking of Irish Car Bombs. Can I also mention that today she has Harry Potter Butterbeer Cupcakes up for you Potter fans? They have glitter on them. She's no fucking joke with these cocktail cupcakes.

9. Spending freeze friends, we're halfway through! I've only purchased two things that weren't budgeted for, and both were necessities like this dry shampoo. How are you doing? Remember to keep track of your victories and slip ups and link up on February 4. But anyway, about dry shampoo...Rite Aid was out of my go to brand (Suave), so I had to buy this. AND I didn't buy any lip balm, nail polish, extra toothpaste. I was in and out. TAKE THAT BITCHES! Do you use dry shampoo? What's your favorite?
10. Ecard of the week: Is the Chris Christie story big all over the USofA or just here in PA/NJ?

11. Congratulations to Victoria from Lost in Boston for winning the Muji Makeup Organizer and beauty products! Victoria, check your email.

Oh, Thursday Thoughts. I've missed you. I've also missed TV - I've been busy doing and reading this week and haven't had a chance to watch. So expect next week's Thursday Thoughts to read like the TV Guide if I can catch up on Sunday.

Is it just me or is January going like gangbusters? I feel like I've been on the move. Slow your roll, January. Let me clear my throat.

  1. hey guess what? i didn't even know it but i've inadvertently been doing your January freeze! i realized the other day that i have not shopped or spent any unnecessary money - same goes for my husband. your powers of persuasion are beyond warlock status.

also, yes yes yes to the workouts! start slow and work your way up...it's always best to do it that way or feel like death for the next few days and not be able to move.

  2. Cocktail cupcakes sound like a wonderful idea! Perhaps I need to get on making some! I use Suave Dry Shampoo too, it's cheap, it doesn't smell bad and it gets the job done. Going into a drug store and not coming out with our pretty things is a job well done! I try to avoid the beauty section in those places like the plague. It is a cash trap!

All the pretty Philly pictures makes me wanna come visit!

  3. I use Suave but tell me more about this brand... I am down to the very end of the can to where half of what comes out is just air, anyway. I love how much you love your city and I hate that my library is super close but in the opposite direction of anything I ever do, so I never use it. Ummm hello it's free and I love free, what's wrong with me?

  8. The Chris Christie thing is big everywhere not just in NJ/PA, I think he might have kicked himself in the balls when it comes to running for president.

I love library books but I've found our "small town" library is not nearly as extensive as the libraries in Charlotte, It makes me sad.

  9. Girlfriend what was going on on Tuesday lol?!?! I have those days too. Also, on your workout's, I saw one that required a stability ball. Do you have one? There are SOO many things you can do with that. And feel free to UPS me one of those cocktail cupcakes... I will not be mad, promise.

  11. Godspeed on the blogger class. You will rock it. I started my spending freeze on 1-13- when our new credit cycle started. I have always saved all my receipts & will continue to do so. I use that card for every.blessed.purchase. An excellent way to keep track & grateful that it can be paid in full every.single.month. And we get a check every quarter.
Win/Win. Love the picture of you, Jen, and Addie. #preciousfriendship

  12. There's really nothing better than getting those notices from the library. You know what I love? Reading. You know what I DON'T love? The fucking Dewey Decimal system. Ain't nobody got time fo' dat!
Does the "clear" dry shampoo work? I have the hardest time finding a dry shampoo that doesn't make me look GRAY since my hair's black.
January needs to pump it's motha fuckin' breaks fo' SHO.
P.S. How cute is your mom up there?!?! :)

  14. I am so sad I didn't win the muji. I might cry.
Thanks for the cupcake shoutout :)
I think the Geege photo is my fave. He's such a good boy, so tolerant of those other two. He just goes with the flow.

  15. How exciting about teaching a webinar!!

  16. I also get excited about library emails! I haven't been using my Kindle at all lately and I have way more books requested than I actually have time to read. The Christie thing much be big everywhere because I haven't been paying attention to the news at all lately (for shame) and even I know about it.

  17. I like Not Your Mother's dry shampoo. Never tried the Marc Anthony, but I do use some other products from that line and I like them.

  18. I am SO excited to have you on board! If any of your readers are interested, tell them to use coupon code STEPH20 for a 20% discount on enrollment.

I feel just the opposite about January. I feel like it's DRAGGING. And your Tuesday looks like my every day. Not a day goes by that I don't drop food on me somewhere.

  19. I'm a huge dry shampoo fan. Especially with those 4:30 wake up calls. I am not getting up earlier to blow dry my hair.

    ReplyDelete
  20. I've been reading and doing all week too. I haven't even watching Justified or Downton yet!

I'm doing super well with the spending. I'm keeping track of what I've bought that isn't food/gas, so I can share at the end of the month.

  21. I am so unsuccessful with dry shampoo and I don't know why. My hair is dark but that is not unusual! My spending freeze is going well because I haven't HAD extra money to spend. That counts, right?!? And I've only done one happy hour and you know how worried I was about my happy hours!

And now I have to buy a makeup organizer...BOO YOU WHORES.

  22. Love your Philly pics! Seeing stuff like that always makes me wish I lived in a bigger city. I am on a self-imposed spending freeze as well... just broke as a joke right now. We are TERRIBLE at budgeting but I'm really going to try to track our spending for a few months and see if we can get it under control.

  23. I've never been to Philly but it's on my list! This week I only screwed up when I had to buy my lunch the day I thought work was buying it. Other than that, I am doing good!

    ReplyDelete
  24. I LOVE Philly! I need to visit my college friend so that I can visit you too!

I use Suave dry shampoo. I can only get it at Target so last time I was there I got 2. I also like "Not Your Mothers" brand and use that when I don't have time to go to Target and have to go to CVS. Dry shampoo has changed my life and I love it for allowing me to sleep in some days! :)

    Bummed that I didn't win. :(
