Health Items of Note
Heat makes me crazy. Yes, it's been very cold. However, Tuesday MFD upped his ante in the Thermostat Wars and pushed the heat up to 71 degrees. I woke up sweating and lost my fucking shit at 1:15 a.m., gesticulating wildly, arms like windmills, voice screechy, throat dry as the Sahara, hair puffed up like a swollen fat squirrel tail, making unintelligible threats and stomping around the house like a member of the Imperial Army on the Death Star. Never put the thermostat above 68! Ever! Makes me want to cut a bitch.
DIY Miracle Cure. Kathy from Vodka & Soda makes me laugh every single day and is possibly the only person on the internet who curses more than I do. She's real and trustworthy, which makes her relatable, readable, and hilarious. While I love all of those things about her, this week I love her the most for her hippie mom concoction that brought me back from the brink of the chest cold abyss I was teetering on. I drank 1/4 cup of this potion in tea three times a day for three days and effectively warded off a nasty chest cold. Bonus: I didn't hallucinate and tell MFD he looked different and weird and like I don't know him, which I do every time I overdose on the combination of Theraflu and Nyquill. It was a refreshing change for all of us. Go check Kathy out
Kathy's potion originally seen here: 1.5 cups honey, 1 cup lemon juice, 1/2 cup EVOO. Whisk continually in a pan over low heat. Do not boil. Store in glass container in fridge. I add it to a cup of hot tea and guzzle.

Who doesn't love winning

Facebook Giveaways. I ran my first one on Wednesday. Be sure you like my page so you can get in on that action. I'll be doing giveaways monthly here and on my blog facebook page. Yesterday I gave away the Naked Basics Palette - the winner was randomly drawn using rafflecopter's facebook app. All you had to do was answer my daily FB question. Boom. Thanks to those of you who participated and took the time to let me know what you'd like to see more of on this blog.
January Blog Giveaway. Because I love you and want you to know the serenity that is organized makeup (and because my friend Mush suggested it) I'm starting this year's giveaways with the Muji Acrylic Makeup Organizer I featured in this post. Since then I've gotten another and stacked them like a boss.
Listen when I tell you that Muji Acrylic Makeup Organizers are fucking MAGIC. Magic, okay? Even if you don't like makeup, you can use them for other things. They are a simple streamlined thing of beauty.
You can choose from the five drawer, three drawer, or large two drawer. And you need some shit to put in that organizer, so Kathy is kicking in some beauty items, including OPI nail polish, oil absorbing sheets, and an all natural lip balm. WIN WIN.  Limited to USA and Canada entries only. Go forth and be organized, my children.

  2. The "lost it at 1:15am" part sounds familiar. We've been known to open windows in the middle of winter due to this.

  3. Five drawer!!

I hate waking up sweaty. We keep our house pretty cold to avoid this.

  4. I am so so pleased to not have any more thermostat wars in my life, although I occasionally give in to guests. Even then, NEVER above 68. In general during the winter, my house is at 63 except for the bedroom which is at 54.

  5. Okay so I am cold all the time so our heater is set at 70 when we're home and 67 when we're not. I would live in layers at 68!

  6. I love everythng about this post. Except the part where I didn't win the palate. LOL. I can imagine you running around your house, screaming like a lunatic due to the thermostat being upped to 71 degrees. But actually, I would flip about that, too. That's too warm even for me!
You know organizing makeup is the ONLY thing I organize well... And I am having a tough time deciding...It would look so pretty on my vanity. I think I'd go with the... five drawer

  7. oh the 5 drawer I think! Gosh I need another one of these in my life, I am super obsessed with them in terms of storing my makeup!

    ReplyDelete
  8. 5 drawer since I have a shit ton of makeup! LOL

    ReplyDelete
  9. I like being warm during the day but when it's time to sleep I close the bedroom heat vent and turn the fan on high, there is nothing worse than being hot while you're trying to sleep!

  10. The five drawer to keep things more organized!

  11. I will be sponsoring as soon as January is over! :) I'd probably get the 3 drawer one.

  12. The thermostat war is too funny. I have to use blankets even in the summer but I hate to sweat too. I would be all about the 5 drawer I have a shit ton of makeup.

  13. Gah, I want that Naked Palette SO bad. I could just buy one I suppose, but where is the fun in that? I just discovered Kathy @ Vodka & Soda's blog,a d can't access it from work, so I always have to wait until I am home. But I agree, she is hilarious and keeps it real, yo. So it's been "cold" for Florida, and while we aren't putting the heat on, I need the fan to sleep. Jason hates it, but also knows I'll murder in my sleep, otherwise. HA HA.

  14. I need all the drawers. I love organizing, and I promised myself that this year I am going to organize the whole house top to bottom, focusing on a room/area each month. Accept this month, no spending no new organizing things. Love Kathy! I am glad her hippie mix worked for you. I started to try her recommendation a few weeks ago when I started getting sick and it seemed to work. I don't think it will get rid of this nasty stuff that has taken over my lungs this week, but I might try!

  15. Oh, and NO ONE wants to mess with me and my thermostat. I will cut you!

  16. ummm you have been hiding vodka and sodas blog from me... i thought we were friends... i feel like I was put into a corner

  17. I always wake up in the middle of the night and open the windows- even during this crazy cold weather. I sometimes worry I'm already getting heat flashes.

    ReplyDelete
  18. that picture.... also love kathy.
    and you.

and i really really want these drawers. NO REALLY. five please.

    ReplyDelete
  19. I would love perfect weather that would enable open windows, no heat or a/c and only fans blowing gentle breezes thru my house. I think they call that place "heaven" or "the other side". The good thing is time flies like crazy! Ice was crazy on our roads and pavements so say the media. Grateful to be able to stay in.
    Happy weekend!
    Love- Your MOMMA

  20. I mean, I'm all for Kathy's conCOCKtion but the trippy Theraflu/Nyquil experience sounds like a good time, too if we're being honest.
5 drawer is the way to go. More drawers = more shit.

  21. To me 68 degrees is HOT. I keep my house at 65 max (usually more like 63).
And I would go with the 5 drawer - clean up the messiness that is my vanity!

    ReplyDelete
  22. Um yeah so I cannot STAND waking up hot in the middle of the night. Thankfully, neither can Isaiah so our bedroom is set at a comfortable 60 degrees, haha.

That magic potion had me interested, until I read that you had to put EVOO in it and DRINK IT. I just don't know if I could stomach drinking oil, haha.

And as far as this little giveaway goes, you should just go ahead and pick me right now. I already have a makeup organizer but I have been DESPERATELY trying to think of a better way to organize all my stupid jewelry and that 5 drawer thing would be amazing. And I wouldn't mind the makeup either, duh.

  23. 68 is the magic number in our house too and it drops down to 62 at night and during the day when we are at work. Not only do I hate being hot, I hate spending an assload of money on something like heat. I am terrified of what our gas bill will be this month after how cold it has been.

  24. i'm obsessed with my muji! and of course would love to add another. love both you and Kathy!

  25. The thermostat above 68 suffocates me ugh!

I'm going to try that concoction thanks for sharing it!

    ReplyDelete
  26. Oh the thermostat!!! You'd love it here at our house. At night it doesn't go above 65 degrees in the winter, and not higher than 67-68 in the summer. And since I've been so hot lately... I told the Mr he can add clothes, but I'm seriously not going to walk around nekkid! =) Happy Friday, and thanks for linking up!! Hope you, the hubs, and the pups have a wonderful weekend!

  27. I am gonna have to try some of this hippie potion....I am on the brink of something nasty coming on....can't stop sneezing and my chest hurts...BOO! It's this DANG weather!! And you better pick me on this giveaway....I am most worthy! Promise!! :)

  28. My apartment is at a very happy 72. 68 is cold! And I love cold, but I also love wearing a tank top and shorts around my apartment.
AS FOR THE MUJI - I MUST HAVE IT. I want to say 3 or 2 drawer. If I get the 5 drawer, I will fill it, and we can't have that in my clutter free home. 2 would be ideal, but I might have too much stuff for 2 and I'd have to go 3.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Before I forget - all good things come in threes - three drawer all the way!
Thermostat wars. Totally with you. Hubs doesn't wear pants most of the time and feels he can determine the temp. Now he knows...put pants on first. If still cold - consult wife. Hahaha.

Thanks to you and Kathy. next time I get sick I will definitely give the hippie syrup a shot. I am like you - I get a little crazy taking Nyquil or anything similar. It's fun for others, just not for me!

    Happy Friday!

  30. Love it! I can't decide what size I'd get. Maybe 5 drawer, because I have a ton of goodies hiding in my vanity drawers that I don't use because I don't see them.

  31. I would choose the 5 drawer :) Awesome giveaway!

  33. thermostat wars is daily in my house. I vote 68 as well. loving the drawers. I'm so over using a bag. drawers look much more organized. 3 probably would suit my little stash.

  34. 5 drawer HOLLA. Not joke, I was going to ask you about this and then I saw your post pop and I then I realized that I am connected to your brain! My makeup situation needs a major overhaul.

You and Kathy should take over the world.

Oh, and that heater thing? You are so right. Sweat for DAYS.

    ReplyDelete
  35. I must save this recipe for the next time I am sick! I use something similar but with bourbon and it has the loveliest name:monkey piss. and I always turn the thermostat up to 82 and then turn it down before he comes home. No shame.

    ReplyDelete
  36. I would totally choose the Muji five drawer. My make-up collection could totally use a major organizational overhaul.

  37. The five drawer. This would really help :)

  38. I would choose the five drawer. Thank you so much for having this giveaway!

  39. 71 degrees?? Dang. Our thermostat is usually at 60. 64 would be more comfortable but we like the low gas bill! :P

  40. I think I would want the three drawer... or maybe the five.

    ReplyDelete
  41. I don't know - the 2 or the 3? I think the 2. Which do you have again?

You sleep w/ your heat on that high? Crazy!! I turn mine down at night!

    ReplyDelete
  42. Oh these are awesome! I think I would want the 2 or the 3..

    ReplyDelete
  43. Gosh, I think I would like the three drawer, but then I wonder if I'm right! I'm working on my vanity area, so this would be a great addition!
