the weekend that was - shore gypsy edition

Thursday we headed to Ocean City, NJ, to spend time with my bff Kim and her fiance Steve.
We beached it all afternoon, then Kim made a fabulous dinner and we shot the shit until the wee hours. Friday morning I made a big breakfast, then we hit the beach again.
Friday night Boardwalk scenes:
1-Steve & MFD
2-Manco & Manco for dinner
3-MFD and me in front of the Music Pier
4-A bride and groom make their way through the torrential downpour
5-Remember when we ducked under the boardwalk to get out of the rain and I left behind a bag and had to run back and get it? I do. It sucked.
6-The king of custard: Kohr Bros mint julep with rainbow jimmies
7-Cool view of rats with wings
8-Two things that are totally Ocean City to me: the ferris wheel and Kohr Bros.
9-You can't leave without a vat of Johnson's caramel corn.

Post rain skies were amazing. We also saw a lightening storm out over the ocean. After more talky talky, MFD and I visited cousin Gail who was down with Megan and family.
Saturday we were up and out early after some delectable donuts from Brown's. The Neshaminy trio in this photo have been friends for 21 years.
We were on the beach in Strathmere by 9:30 on Saturday morning. Lil, Frank and Amanda filtered in in the afternoon.

We stayed on the beach until 9 p.m., drinking beers, laughing, talking, swimming, playing in the sand and being big kids. By the time we found our way off the beach in the pitch black, we were totally shit canned. We went to Twisty's for dinner and more drinks, but none of us remember it and there is no photographic evidence.
Sunday was a rough one. Frank and MFD went out on the boat with Amanda's dad. Amanda & I hit the beach and if we were any more relaxed all day, we would've been dead. We hit Busch's for dinner, my favorite place to eat in all the shore towns. We waited too long and I was HANGRY.
After dinner we hit the Deauville Inn for drinks. Since MFD and I got married there, it's always nice to go back. MFD and John hit up some bars in Sea Isle and Frank and I solved the world's problems over beers back at the shack.
We overslept on Monday, scrambled to vacate the premises, and had lunch at Steak Out in Sea Isle. The Neshaminy trio in this photo have been friends for 21 years.

We were home by 2:30. I have to tell you...Mondays when you're off of work go by much quicker.

I'm so glad we could spend time with Kim & Steve and Amanda & Frank this weekend. It was a treat to see Kim & Steve at the shore, and I love the new Strathmere tradition we have with Frank & Amanda.

Back to the grind.

  6. And now I want mint julep custard. Think they have Kohr Brothers on the Rehoboth Beach boardwalk? And I just learned what Scrapple was recently and I don't think I could do it...

  12. Kohr's Brothers is probably one of my favorite things in the entire world. I will cut the line in front of a child to get me some Kohr's Brothers. Not really but you get the point. Glad you had a good weekend! :)

  14. All those sprinkles on my ice cream would drive me nuts. I like chunks of things in my ice cream...nuts, brownie pieces, waffle cone, whatever...but jimmies are flavorless when they're cold. And they just get in the way ;)

  15. Your posts make me feel so inadequate with picture taking! I need to suck less and take more pictures.

I have a girl's weekend coming up and a trip to Put-In-Bay and I cannot wait. This makes me just want to go that much more.

I haven't had Scrapple since I was a kid. My grandfather used to make it and I would douse it with maple syrup.
