Songs I Always Turn Off

There was that post about songs I never turn off. This is its opposite. I hate many somgs, but there are some I will knock people over to turn off. Like these:
  • Play That Funky Music by Wild Cherry
  • December 1963 (Oh What a Night) by Frankie Vallie
  • YMCA by The Village People
  • Girls Just Wanna Have Fun by Cyndi Lauper
  • Almost any song with long drawn out guitar riffs
  • I Will Survive by Gloria Gaynor
  • Baby Baby by Amy Grant
  • Superfreak by Rick James
  • Brick House by The Commodores
  • Funktyown by Lipps
  • Informer by Snow
  • Invisible Touch by Genesis
  • Gonna Make You Sweat (Everybody Dance Now) by C+C Music Factory
  • Celebration by Kool & the Gang
  • Dude Looks Like a Lady by Aerosmith
  • Love Shack by B-52s
  • We Are Family by Sister Sledge
  • Old Time Rock-n-Roll by Bob Seger
  • Pretty Fly for a White Guy - The Offspring
  • Anything by Sublime
  • Mony Mony by Billy Idol
  • Umbrella by Rihanna
  • Ain't No Woman (Like The One I Got) by The Four Tops
  • Kokomo by The Beach Boys
  • Brass Monkey by the Beastie Boys

I always want to turn Yes songs off, but I think MFD would divorce me. That won't do.

What songs set your teeth on edge?

    The Christmas Shoes- NewSong

  3. hahahahaha... didn't see MarlaJan's response. but that is the worst song EVER!!!!!

  4. I cannot abide Train or Nickleback, period.

  5. anything by drake, pitbull or christina aguleria. actually a lot of music today turns me off; they just don't make it like they used to in the 90s....

  6. That e card cracks me up!!! I am with you on a lot of those songs, they just get on my nerves. Why don't you like Umbrella...ella...ella...ella...ay ay ay? (said sarcastically)

  7. So you are basically miserable at every wedding reception, ever? =)

Houston radio still plays Sex & Candy by Marcy Playground and I cannot take that song. I hated it when it came out 15+ years ago and it's still awful. Also? Nirvana. Not a fan...

  8. I've been taking notes (when the ideas come to me) for a post like this! There's a lot of songs I don't like. Currently, it's anything Carrie Underwood and Keith Urban. I really wish they'd just go away.

And Christina and JLo are NEVER okay.

  9. I gotta disagree on love shack. Yep, I like it. I will turn off any nickelback song in a heartbeat

  10. LOL @ Lauren!

While I'm not a huge fan of Kokomo, my dad loved that song and he would torture his grandchildren by singing it (with his horrible voice). At his funeral during the pre-service music the violinist played Kokomo. It was a great touch of levity.

  11. I know most people will disagree, but anything by Bruno Mars lately will get me to change the station. Plus hard rock when I have a headache. Or when it's loud. Or when it's not too loud. Or most of the time. And don't get me started on ironic Xmas songs. Uggghhhh.

  12. Bahahaha! I love half of those songs..

and Everybody Dance now - that was our first dance at our wedding. It was spectacular...

  13. Led effing Zeppelin! JMJ ew!
Not fond of John C. Mellancamp either. Ridiculous, repetitive rap songs. Downer, sad songs. That Eric Clapton song about his son- JMJ- so sad. Caribbean Queen- one DJ played that every time first song!
I know I will thing of more.
In a perfect world all my favorite songs would come on the radio all the time. Stay cool. This is serious summertime. Grateful for AC and the HOO!
    Love your momma

  14. My two absolute ones are Celebration - Kool and the Gang and
Old Time Rock and Roll - Bob Seger. After that it's ANY Jimi Hendrix and most Doors songs. Oye Como Va and Black Magic Woman - Santana. Sweet Home Alabama - Lynyrd Skynyrd. All Kenny G and Michael Bolton, as I hate music with no words, and ugly people who cant sing.
Most anything with a long guitar, bass or drum riff.

  15. Haha, I actually like some of these!

    My list:
Cotton Eyed Joe (I almost tore our DJs face off when he played this at our wedding)
Butterfly Kisses (was on the strict do not play list at our wedding)
    Sex and Candy
    Mambo Number 5
That new god awful song about driving your car into a tree. I think it is called "I Don't Care"

  16. Awww, I like a lot of the songs on your list. :)

However, right now, I want to turn off anything Rihanna, country music related or anything Nickelback. HAHAA.

  17. I'm laughing so hard right now. Some of these I completely agree it, and others I'm not singing in my head. Ha! great list!

    ReplyDelete
  18. Mostly agreed, except Love Shack and Bob Seger. Those I love.
I used to FLIP OUT every time bars would play umbrella. Um Ba Rella is not a freaking word. Thankfully most everyone has stopped playing that shit. Ugh.

  19. Can I just use this list as my "DO NOT PLAY" for my wedding DJ? Thanks for doing the work for me :)

    ReplyDelete
  20. I agree with a lot of these...but some of them, I will crank the volume and dance like a fool. Anything by Aerosmith is a-okay in my book ;)

    ReplyDelete
  21. Marla & Mare - My mind was not on Christmas Shoes, but I hate that song with the fire of one hundred suns.

Mother - Led Zeppelin is mostly a no no for me.

Meem - Carlos Santana songs and Doors songs pretty much for me too. Hendrix also. MFD is shocked and disturbed by my hatred of these things. Also dying laughing at ugly people who can't sing. WORD.

  22. Anything YES but like you said I think my husband would divorce me. We are actually going to the YEStival on August 3rd. It is on his actual birthday....what was I supposed to do!?! Would it be wrong to take my ipod with me?

    ReplyDelete
  23. 1) Mariah Carey anything except "Fantasy"
    2) Anything by Yes
    3) songs where either the chorus or the ending says the same thing over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over
    4) Wagon Wheel - the version by Darius Rucker (I like the original.)
    5) Contemporary Christian (I love Jesus, but not modern music about him.)

    ReplyDelete
  24. Bhahahaha....girl, you know you are aging yourself with these songs!! Freaking hilarious because I pretty much hate all of them too...except Sublime!! Love them!!

    ReplyDelete
  25. Oh, man! Now I've got "Mony Mony" in my head! It hurts! The song that sets my teeth on edge (good analogy) is "The Lion Sleeps Tonight" (great, now that one's in my head).

    ReplyDelete
  26. I agree with everything except for Celebration and Brass Monkey.

I am an avid Cardinals Fan, and Celebration is like a big deal. They played that song in 82 when they won the WS, so now they play it when they win a big game.

And for Brass Monkey... That is just classic!

    ReplyDelete
  27. i pretty much agree with all of these except i love Sublime, Rhianna, and the Beastie Boys...but i honestly thought i was the only person who hates love shack. i seriously cant stand that song!

    ReplyDelete
  28. Your turn-off songs are almost all on my workout ipod. LOL No, not really--but some (like the great disco tunes you have listed & I love ALL Beasties). I will turn off all Bob Seger. NO Amy Grant, No Freebird, No Stairway to Heaven, No Dude Looks Like a Lady, No Indie Rock of today, NO Rhianna or Chris Brown. No freakin' Wagonwheel by anyone! Maybe I should do my own post....this is too long. ha ha ha

  29. Among others, I hate any songs the group "Sugarland". I just can't stand the female singer's voice. Especially their song "Stay". The whole song is woman whining because her boyfriend won't leave his wife/live-in girlfriend. Ugh.
