On Failing

There is value in failure. When you fail,

1. It means you tested your limits. You're growing and changing.

2. It inspires introspection - where did you go wrong? How can you do it differently and better next time?

3. It gives you a new challenge and opportunity to approach the situation from a different angle.

4. It proves that you're human and it keeps you honest.

5. It provides amusement. Some of the biggest laughs I've had at my own expense were at my major fails. The other biggest laughs I've had at my own expense were my biggest falls, but I digress. Don't take yourself so seriously. Have a laugh, brush it off, and get up and try again.
Fall down seven times, stand up eight, mofos. It's not a Chinese proverb for nothing.

For all of you who like creeping on the ins and outs of daily life, I'll be chronicling my Monday from start to finish with pics tomorrow. Check it out.

Have a good one!

  1. Hmmm "Fall down seven times, stand up eight, mofos." I've never heard that Chinese proverb before ... it's a good one :)

  2. Yes to all of this. It also allows you to learn what you like/dislike, I think. My mom was a really good softball player and really wanted me to play. I played two years and I SUCKED. Seriously, so so bad. I have zero hand eye coordination. Two years playing softball and pretty much failing at every position I played allowed me to realize, fuck this, I hate softball, I am not good at it, I want to go find something else to play. If I had been semi-decent, I probably would have continued playing and continued to hate it. It also makes for some good laughs as an adult.

  3. The greatest day of my life was when I learned to laugh at myself. We spend our entire lives from Middle to High school worried about looking stupid only to realize later how much we can look back and laugh at ourselves. Great Post! Bring on the stalker photos!

I wish when we failed that we could look at it this way. It's hard at first...

  6. Absolutely. I don't like to fail in the moment and it knocks my self-esteem a little, but I always learn and grow from failing and I am better the next time around.
