Poised on the precipice of a three day weekend

Well, hopefully I'm actually poised on the precipice of a 3+ day weekend if we get a little early dismissal up in here, you know what I'm saying?

In the midst of the frolicking, day drinking, naps, yard work, being giddy about having Monday off, etc., please take a moment to think about the men and women who have died serving and protecting the citizens of the United States of America. This is the land of the free because of the brave, and unfortunately not all of the brave make it back to their friends and family. My favorite Memorial Day quote:

"And they who for their country die shall fill an honored grave, for glory lights the soldier’s tomb, and beauty weeps the brave." — Joseph Rodman Drake

Memorial Day is the unofficial start to the summer. Except the forecast for Philadelphia this weekend is not really summery.

Nevertheless, five of my favorite things about summer:

1. ALL THE SUN BLOCKING THINGS. Sunscreen: You need this ALL year, every day, even the gray days. But especially in the summer when your skin is exposed more. Sunglasses: I am rarely without them, and if I am, I am cursing up a freaking storm. Sun hats: I do not want to look like an old hag, so I own eleventy billion sun hats.
2. Summer foods. Iced coffee. It is one of my favorite things in life. Also crisp watermelon, corn fresh off the cob (if you're lucky your husband will entertain you by eating said corn like the barbarian Gengis Kahn), hotdogs/hamburgers/barbecued chicken on the grill, potato and macaroni salads (homemade only!), Kohr Bros. mint julep soft serve ice cream, peaches, plums.
3. Long weekends at the shore. June will find us in Ocean City, MD, to celebrate my brother's 30th birthday. July: girls' long weekend in Cape May. August: Strathmere with the Sannellis. September: North Wildwood for String Band Weekend.
4. Flip flip flip to the flops. They're all I wear in the summer, even though my aging body does not like what they're doing to my knees. It's that time of year where I whore myself out for Sanuk Yoga Mat flip flops. If you don't own a pair, you should. I own more than several. They are life altering. Better than Reefs.
5. Air conditioning and swimming pools. Humidity is an asshole straight from the depths of hell. Ain't nobody got time for that.

What are your favorite summer things?

Wednesday we took some dinner over to the Leslie abode and met baby Quinn. Welcome to our newest FRAMILY member!
I'm reviewing a product here tomorrow, so check back for that if you're around, otherwise see you on Tuesday for an elongated The Weekend That Was post. Catch me over the weekend on Facebook or Instagram.

AND! And and and. Nichole from Casa de Crews and I are going to do a weekly food prep link up on June 4. Do you prep some or all of your food on the weekend? Be it your breakfasts, snacks, lunches, dinners, some of it or all of it, join us!

Enjoy the shit out of this weekend, you guys. Be grateful for your freedom, don't leave your drinks unattended around strangers, have a designated driver, and apply sunscreen.

  4. Woohoo! I love that quote. Memorial Day often gets lost in the opening of pools and fired up grills.

Totally checking out those flip flops by the way! Have a great weekend!

    My favorite summer things:
*fresh, real summer tomatoes (none of those hothouse things!)
*a dip in the pool at night
*long walks on the beach searching for sea glass
    *Sangria and home made salsa
    *impromptu deck parties
    *sun kissed noses
    *my ultimate summer playlist
*happy hour that starts earlier than usual.

  9. Okay, I'm simply loving this list.

And humidity IS an asshole from hell! Bahahaha!!! I am so with you on that --- it's hot, humid and awful here in the summer! Love summer, but could deal without that!

Thanks for linking up with us today!!!

  10. Sanuks are the greatest flip flops to ever happen to my feet. Worth every penny.

I have a giant head and I can never find hats to fit me. I bought two last year, took them on vacation, and promptly wore neither.

I would die without air conditioning. Seriously. If I get the trifecta of hungry, hot, and tired AND it is humid, all bets are off. I wont' stay at my sister's house when I go back to PA in the summer because they don't have central air.

  15. Hoping for early dismissal here, but not holding my breath.

I wear sunglasses even when it's cloudy. It's a must. And I adore hats.

  16. I have recently ditched my Sanuks for Teva Olowahu flip flops. The straps irritate me less (perhaps I have weirdly proportioned feet, I don't know), they have a fun criss cross design, and most importantly they have arch support, which is always what kills me with flip flops.

  17. First of all, I am working on Monday so shut your mouth. Just kidding. Keep your mouth open, but have some extra drinks for me on Sunday, k?

Secondly, let's talk about how much you kill it in those giant hats? FABULOUS.

Have a wonderful, wonderful weekend!! xoxo

  18. I NEED more hats! I never think to buy them until I am on the beach wishing I had one. ha.

    Happy weekend!

  19. Um, I think someone forgot to add mint chocolate Dippin Dots to that list. After all, it IS that ice cream of the future.

I love love LOVE all your sun hats! Super cute! Ain't nobody got time for wrinkles and sun spots!!

    Enjoy your weekend, love! <3

  20. Why can't we live closer and eat corn on the cob and watermelon together....and then hit the salty wind and frolic on the beach?? Wouldn't that be grand!? Enjoy your weekend and thanks for reminding everyone why we are celebrating.

  21. Love Love Love the quote and the newest hat.

  22. No drinks unattended is a BIG one for me...I usually start out with a drink and that's all I have when we go out because I'm always out on the dance floor after that! I love me a good hat, but I don't have any floppy ones yet. I have been eying them though!
