Spring Thing(s)

1. Get the yard in shape - Prepping the yard for summer is usually MFD's arena. I normally just take care of the flowers and cleaning off the furniture. This year it's all me with some help from my Dad and my brother. Tasks on the list include clearing sticks/leaves/winter debris, mowing the grass, weed whacking and edging things, moving the hose to the front of the house, spraying windows and doors with peppermint to keep spiders away from the entries, putting clothes hanger contraption into the ground, getting plants and herbs in pots, doing some replanting out front, general clean up/mulching of front flower beds, washing off all outdoor furniture, replacing Adirondack chairs, reorganizing the shed, general clean up and spruce up of everything. I'll be heading to Lowe's on Saturday morning, Yard Crashers crew. In case you want someone who will say YES right away. I mean who the hell says no to those people? They want to redo your yard for FREE.

2. Purge drawers and switch out summer and winter clothes.

3. Touch up paint on the bedroom ceiling.

4. Wardrobe: add dresses and earrings.

5. Zumba twice a week, every week; dogs walked daily.

6. Clean out the freezers before I buy more food. I have so much shit in them. My friend Kate gave me the idea to do a pantry clearing spending freeze during a game of Words With Friends. More to come on that.

7. Use the grill. I fear the grill. I must not fear the grill. MFD can supervise and instruct. That will go over like a shit balloon. I will ask him to do it and then it will go up my ass sideways because I hate being told what to do, which I will recall in the middle and spaz out.

I'm hoping to get a good start on number one this weekend. Lori is coming down to clean the house and help give the dogs a bath. I'll be able to concentrate on the exterior and should be able to make a lot of progress in the yard.

What's on your spring to do list?

Have a great weekend!

  1. peppermint to keep spiders away? what? explain.

or i could just google it, which is probably easier.

and #7. i feel ya. i steer clear of the grill. no thanks. if it were up to me, everything would end up completely burnt, so our diet would consist of chicken charcoal, steak charcoal, burger charcoal..you get the idea.

  3. We watch yard crashers every Saturday, I'll kill to have them tackle our yard!! I need to figure out my spring/summer clothing. I figure this will be a great need for new clothes. And I hate shopping! We use our grill year round. I love the flavor it gives to the food, and the fact that it's an easy clean up! =) Happy Friday Steph! I hope you have a wonderful weekend, and thanks again for linking up and spreading the word!

  4. I also need to do some major purging of the pantry/fridge/freezer, whether that means eating what's there or getting rid of stuff that's no good.

And, as always, my closet, drawers and jewelry. Ugh.

  7. Thinking about all of the yard work we need to do is making me twitchy. Last year was our first spring in our house and I swear we cleaned up leaves that had been there since 2008.

I am not really good at taking instructions either. I have a classic case of "you can't teach the teacher." This escalated during a salsa dance lesson on the beach in the Dominican Republic during mine and my husband's first vacation together (you know, I think I need to write a post on the shit show that it was to figure out how each other vacationed). BUT you can totally use the grill. I swear it is easy. I was afraid of it too until I just decided to do it one day and I was kicking myself for waiting so long. Unless you leave something on there for like an hour, I think anything grilled automatically turns out perfect and delicious. My biggest tip is use a low to medium setting (which you would think would be common sense, but wasn't for me at first).

  9. I am all over #1 on my Spring to do list tomorrow! Yard Crashers - I will be at my local Home Depot...they never go to Home Depot but it's closer than Lowes, oh well. Good luck with clearing things out - it's tough work but so rewarding after it's finished. I currently pull up to the house and scowl at my weeds. They will be gone tomorrow. Yay!

  11. I've been thinking I need to add more dresses to my wardrobe too. Ideally, I'd like to have at least 10 so that I can have 2 work weeks of dresses. :)

    Have a fab weekend!

  16. Shelby, I hope you have a great trip down my way!

Kathy, I did the majority of my inside spring cleaning two weeks ago. Windows still need to be done. Wah.

Mare, heading over there to read it now!

Al, I hate looking at the backyard so I know I'll feel so much better when it's done!

Laurie, dusting is the devil's chore. As soon as it's done, it's time to do it again. Especially with pets! Dust never dies.

  17. I will come over to grill for you. Justin doesn't think I need a grill. He has no idea how much it would change our lives!

Tell me more about this peppermint situation because if I see one more giant ass spider in our apartment I will flee.

  19. I love the grill, but I too fear it. Partly because my husband is super anal about how to use it, how it gets cleaned/put away...everything. Its just easier to let him do it all.

  21. I love that you can switch out summer and winter clothes. I still use most of the winter stuff in the summer here. Haha! I planted some flowers in pots and called it good. Looks like I need to spray peppermint though!? What's that all about? I also need to eat everything that's in our freezer before buying more. That's going on the list for next week's menu planning! Thanks!

  22. I really need to get started on spring cleaning stuff, though....nothing is really green here yet, so there's not much yard work to do for a while. I'm going to be gone half the summer so I don't think there's much point in planting a garden...maybe I'll plant a low-maintenance one.
