The Great Outdoors

Source
The Great Outdoors is one of the funniest movies ever. Especially when Dan Akroyd is driving the boat and John Candy is being pulled along yelling "You bastard!" The people on the boat are saying, "What? We can't hear him. I think he's saying GO FASTER." hahaha

The REAL great outdoors..I miss them. I'm ready to shake this winter off and get outside. I love to sit out back on warm spring and nice summer days under the huge tree in my yard, my dogs by my side, a book in my lap, a glass of iced tea on the table next to me, staring at the sky and sighing with contentment. I like the day stretching before me with nothing to do except enjoy the still laziness that sets in around 2:00 on an early summer afternoon.

Our yard needs some serious work. It's on our list of things to do. In the meantime, I'll be dreaming of these things, which are not attainable at this point in my life or at this house:

Sources for all can be found on In My Dream Life, I Have This. I dream of a lovely pool, circular and plentiful seating, a fireplace under a covered porch, a hammock in a magic grove of pre-lit trees, a full wraparound porch...

I should do SOMETHING to jazz things up...like a bright pink gate. MFD would stamp his feet, shit twice and die if he came home to this.

  1. Shawn doesn't want to get a pool until 2014, but I'm ready. Maybe this summer I'll work on getting us a regular exterminator so that by next summer, I can stand to be out there without running away from wasps all day?

  2. The Great Outdoors is one of my favorite movies.
God Rest your soul, John Candy.
Having the Healing Ocean Oasis in our backyard, even in the winter, makes me happy, especially when the pool lights go on at night.
Would love a total landscaping, etc in our back and front. I may peruse some pictures. It just dawned on me that Pinterest is really a vision board for your life. TTFN. Carpe diem. Love you.

  5. Someday I would love to have a big wrap around farmer's porch w/ comfy furniture. . . but maybe first I should just focus on a house/condo. . .

  6. I who love every season (with the exception of spring we dont' really have spring where I live or at least not until the end of May) am ready for summer days of beautiful flowers, green grass and sitting out on the deck reading or looking at the sky. L

  7. I am just ready for spring. At our current house we have privacy, sun, waterfront property, a pool, and two decks. Nothing pretty, but we are renting anyway so no point putting money or energy into the place for now. But sitting in the back yard with a book and some suntan lotion would be divine.

    1. The only $$ I put out when we were renting was to plant some flowers. I crave the color.

  8. Space! The problem with a little condo is always space, I do have a yard and a sizable garden and I do have a patio, however small, but space to add all the fancies and comforts and cozies would be awesome.
But the fact is, I love my little place and I enjoy sitting on my little patio with my big wine glass and a book and a dog and a cat and I am really quite content.
Until I see those pics you just posted...

  10. I'd started a Pinterest board on yard/garden ideas with the intent of having someone come work on the yard this year - but with Rich out of work we really can afford to plunk down the chunk of change all that would cost. I'm still considering having a design done to be done in 2014... unless of course he's STILL out of work - in which case not doing our yard will be the least of our worries!

We have a ton of shade - and that's perfect for me - a fire pit is a MUST - as is a place to hang a hammock and a swing. I wan't less lawn and more environmentally friendly ground cover. I'm not a summer person - but I can really get into having spring and autumn fires.

    2. We have a lot of shade too, I adore it. And a lovely firepit we got as a wedding gift. I haven't had luck with getting lawn cover to grow. Do you have any experience with the shade types?

  12. I have so much I want to do!! We need a back patio - I'm praying that gets poured early spring so we can finally do some outdoor entertaining. We recently got the front patio area re-poured so now is the time to spruce it up out there. I would like some new chairs, new flower beds, a pathway to the sidewalk through the front grass for easy access for our guests that park in the street. I could keep going...so, so much I want to do. I love all of your dream pictures - especially the hammock! My grandparents always had one in their backyard and I always wanted one when I got my own place...still a dream.

    1. Repouring the back patio is on our To Do list too. BLAH, I know it needs to be done and will be better for entertaining, but $$$$$$.

  13. You had me at pink door.. I say go for it! He'll get over it.. HA!
I've always said I'm going to paint the inside of my closet pink.
Uhh, yeah.. ain't happened yet. But I want tooooooooo, like bad.

  14. I am DYING to get back outside. The forecast is calling for sun on Sunday/Monday/Tuesday/Wednesday, not that it's going to be warm or anything but you better believe I'll be going for walks or maybe a hike. I'm so tired of the indoors!

  15. Oh my gosh, that outdoor fireplace with the ceiling fan picture makes me giggly. Talk about gorgeous! Hubby was begging for a pool, but I spent my first 3 years working at CHOP on the trauma floor, and took care of way too many kids that nearly drowned. Scarred me for life because I refuse to get a pool. So if you get one, can we come over?

PS- If you paint your gate door pink right now, MFD could only stomp (stamp? sorry, I'm a science geek, not bloody Shakespeare!) one foot. Just saying... :-)

  16. We like The Great Outdoors, too. Our favorite part is where everyone is blowing everyone else out their collective asses. We quote it a LOT. Also, "Go find yourself a rinse cycle!"
Having a wrap-around porch is almost more important than what's inside a house. Almost.

  17. I want all of those things. But I also want a gardener to take care of it all so that all I have to do is lounge around and read outside. That is my dream.

  18. That second paragraph made me want spring soooo bad! Not so much summer. I'm a fair skinned wuss and don't like it over 72 degrees. I wish we had money to fix up our backyard. I want a covered deck and an elevated garden. I never thought about a fireplace! I want that now too! We'll be lucky if we get a sandbox this year.

  19. We have dirt for a backyard here in Colorado. Plus I have a black thumb. I would be happy if the landlord just put in a new fence!
