Thursday Thoughts

1. I've been to Marshalls three times in the past six days. Surely they will impose a limit on me soon.

2. Do you watch Hart of Dixie? I do, and I love it. My friend Gwen and I think Bluebell might be the perfect place to live. Monday was the season finale, and hot damn it was good. The hiatus is the perfect time for you to catch up on it. Now git.

3. The driver of my train home stops in a different spot on the platform every day. I guess this sick bastard likes to watch people scurry.

4. I wish summer Fridays were starting tomorrow. Or ever. I've never worked at a company that does summer Fridays. They sound wonderful.

5. I'm reading Everything I Needed to Know About Being a Girl I Learned from Judy Blume. It's lovely.

6.This morning on Preston & Steve, I heard them talking about a guy who fears silverware, medieval furniture, and komodo dragons. I don't feel so weird about my weird fears now.

7. I love my HOPE bracelets made by Debbie Peters that she's selling to benefit Relay For Life. There's still time to buy if you want some! We can raise money until August. They're $8 each or two for $15.

8. Is Sandusky's lawyer serious, asking them to throw out charges? My head explodes thinking about this.

9. We're almost to Memorial Day. How?

10. If I take the 7:37 train in, I get off and hear this announcment "Now arriving - the 8:08 to Temple University." Then I immediately start singing But I know y'all wanted the 808 can you feel that B-A-S-S, bass...But I know y'all wanted the 808 can you feel that B-A-S-S, bass.

I like the way you move,

The rain in Spain stays mainly in the plain

I know we need this rain, but it makes me want to skip the gym, alternately read and nap all day, eat warm apple crisp topped with vanilla bean ice cream, shop online, watch Police Academy and Revenge of the Nerds,  drink Twinings Pure Peppermint tea, forego all errands, and wear pajamas.

Instead, I am at work.

It's raining AND it's Tuesday? Balls.

Happy birthday to one of my BFFs, Jenn, who is inquisitive, adventurous, emotional, supportive, a reformed repeater, excitable, and a wonderful mom. She's also a fabulous friend who makes me laugh all the time but especially when we're partners in crime, which is often.

Carry on. Maybe if we squeeze our eyes shut and think collectively, we'll open them and it will be Wednesday. It's worth a try.

the weekend that was

Wandered over to St. Anselm's Carnival Friday night where I had a kielbasa sandwich, MFD got some of his beloved cherry bells and funnel cake, and I watched carnies glance around furtively as carnies are wont to do.

Me: I wish I had like eight pet penguins.
MFD: We should get a pet penguin.
Me: We'd need eight. They like to pal around together.
MFD: We should get a rockhopper penguin.
(silence while I google an image)
Me: Really? That's a F'd up penguin.

Relay For Life of South Philadelphia - thank you from the bottom of my heart to everyone who donated money, time, services, products, and space for us to hold events.
If you've never Relayed, you should. It was a gorgeous day to walk for a cure.

Thanks MFD for all of your help, and thank you Joseph A Ferko String Band for playing

Team Random Acts of Kindness rocks.
Team Random Acts of Kindness - minus my Mom
Peters in her bracelet sweatshop. Make that money!

Gus & Geege attended their first Relay.

A verbal altercation with a freaking ice cream man who drove through cones and almost ran over my walkers. SERIOUSLY ICE CREAM MAN? Do not F with people walking for a cure.

Pat's Pizza and TV catch up on Saturday night

Look what my dogs left out front: a Mother's Day card. MFD busted through the door with it upon his return from playing at the Susan G. Komen walk Sunday morning and said he found it out there.

Breakfast at Grandmom's with Dad, Carol, Stephen, and MFD

Food prep for the week: cutting up fruits & veg, making cilantro lime quinoa, egg salad, broccoli breakfast bake, and Lauren Schwarz's crockpot creation (chicken tenderloins, block of cream cheese, can of cream of chicken soup, half jar of jalapenos, cooked/crumbled bacon, shredded cheddar, cook on low for four hours, shred, serve over rice).
MFD came into the kitchen just as I was about to load the dishwasher.
MFD: Whoa. It looks like you just opened a restaurant in here.
Me: I did. It's called This Week's Food. Now get.

Sunday afternoon errands

Dinner outside at Mom's by the pool with Mom, Rich, Stephen, Sean, MFD & Debbie

Hearing the Pina Colada song on the way home got me thinking...seriously, the woman places a personal ad, the guy answers it, and when they find out it's the other one, all she says is "Aw it's you," then they laugh for a moment, and he says "I never knew that you liked pina coladas, getting caught in the rain, etc..." I guess them saying F U for placing a personal ad and F U for answering it and throwing drinks in each other's faces in O'Malleys where they were supposed to plan their escape wouldn't have fit in with the wistful loviness the song is trying to evoke.
I just mini-ranted on The Pina Colada song.

Exhaustion, complete and total. Utter, even.

Mama said there'll be days like this, there'll be days like this Mama said

Happy Mother's Day!

Especially to my Mom...

My stepmom...

My mother-in-law...

And all of you mothers, stepmothers, furry mothers, and nurturers in general. For those of you who have lost your mom, I know she's smiling down on you today.

Cheers!

P.S. Our Ferko family lost a good friend and a great mom this year to cancer. Her kids are doing something awesome in her honor for the Susan G. Komen walk today in Philadelphia. Steve Highsmith covered it on his blog. Check this out:
