Thursday Thoughts

Knowing my obsession with soup, my friend Mrs. Bizzle of this blog sent me a recipe for avgolemono soup earlier this week (recipe in comment section below). I made it Tuesday night and had it for dinner on Wednesday. It's silky, satisfying, and tasty. Make yourselves some.

Tuesday night I had dinner at the most honorable Hong Kong Pearl with my oldest friend and her two daughters. Thirty two years we've been friends. Isn't that awesome?

I am kicking my own ass. On Monday I deleted a bunch of photos from my iPhone. I had over 200 on there and I felt crowded. In my overzealous deleting binge I deleted my October pic of the days which haven't been shared anywhere that were my grand plan to share here at the end of the month. Bullocks and BALLS! So I said screw this, I'm still doing it, I will just fudge the first seven days of this month and that will just be between me and all of you. Ok? Ok. As they say in that total creepster movie Don't Say a Word that totally went against my movie viewing rules by being too scary: "I'll never tellllllllll."

I just remembered Brittany Murphy is dead. That totally slipped my mind until I googled "I'll never telllllllll."

I am piling on sweatshirts and blankets and staring this week's chill in the face. I refuse to turn the heat on. I feel Thermostat Wars, fall edition coming. For an explanation of Thermostat Wars, click here.

On the subject of fall and chilly, this happened this week:

We've been having issues with the color printer at work all week. I want to go Office Space on its ass and then set it on fire. Damn it feels good to be a gangster.

I think I want a new perfume. I should've bought it on the cruise duty free. Regrets, I've had a few. But then again, too few to mention.

As of this morning, I'm still all in, flip flops.

Who watched Nashville? I liked it a lot. Poor Connie Britton, they're making her haggard.

In other TV news, I cannot WAIT to watch Duck Dynasty tonight. I had to record it late night last night.

Attention locals: Sunday night, Hank and MFD are playing at Fall Fest at ShadyBrook Farm from 6 - 9. I believe it's $12 to get in, and you have access to all the fall fun stuff going on there. Plus carnie food and fire pits. Who doesn't love carnie food? Hope to see you!

Ecard of the week. This is especially pertinent in the fall/winter seasons:

  1. Avgolemono (Greek Lemon Soup)
8 - 10 cups chicken broth (or homemade chicken stock)
1/2 cup freshly squeezed lemon juice
    2 Tbsp. chicken base granules
    1/2 tsp. white pepper
    4 Tbsp butter, separated
    1 Tbsp olive oil
1 small finely chopped yellow onion
    2 Tbsp all-purpose flour
    4 egg yolks
    1/2 cup half & half
1 1/2 cups cooked white rice or orzo
1 cup (or more) finely diced chicken meat
In a large stock pot, combine chicken broth, lemon juice, soup base & white pepper. Bring to a boil and simmer for 15 minutes.

In a separate frying pan, melt 2 Tbsp of the butter with the olive oil and saute onions until translucent.

Empty onions into the stockpot, then add the rest of the butter to the same frying pan. Stir flour into the melted butter to make a roux, keeping over medium heat and stirring frequently until light gold in color (about 5 minutes).

Gradually add roux to the soup mixture in the stockpot. Simmer for 10 minutes.

Meanwhile, beat the egg yolks in a medium bowl and beat in the half & half. GRADUALLY add some of the hot soup to the egg yolk mixture, stirring constantly (about a cup or so). Add the egg mixture to the stockpot and heat through.

Add the cooked rice and chicken to the pot and simmer for another 10 minutes. Add salt & pepper to taste.

  2. No heat for me either, and luckily no thermostat wars - neither Grace nor Notso can reach it! They are not pleased about this. As for me, as soon as it is dark my pajamas are on, unless I am blessed with company.
    Great post!

  3. Damn, it DOES feel good to be a gangsta. I should bring my cordless screwdriver in tomorrow and give my cube a view.

  4. It's a great value, and also it includes cost-free delivery on making it one Get from Here of the least expensive snow Vanity 56v Cordless Snow Blower Mid-season Review blowers on the marketplace.
