the Labor Day weekend that was

11:30 a.m. early dismissal on Friday. Thank you tiny baby freedom loving Jesus.
We had lunch on the patio at Three Monkeys to celebrate MFD's birthday.
Calamari and burgers. Delicious.

I also hit the library and Produce Junction.
Shockingly, the parking lot at Produce Junction did NOT resemble the sixth circle of hell.

+

Friday night: a visit to Gamma and Pop, then on to see Hank and MFD play at Shady Brook Farm for the Wine Concert Series. I had pumpkin soft serve ice cream and it was thebomb.com.

AND! And and and. One of my best friends since I was 13 got engaged. I am full of glee and absolutely elated for Kimmy Foo Foo and Esteban. The proposal story is fabulous and the ring is beyond beautiful, but the best bottom line is the pure happiness that comes along with this news.

I was the DD for celebrations for MFD's birthday at the Langhorne, my most hated bar, a pop into the Rover where we ran into some high school friends, and birthday beers with AJ at his house with him and Kim. I have serious house envy over their porch. It was a late night.

September 1 is a big day in my life.
It's MFD's birthday (click it to see last year's birthday blog for him). It's Debbie's birthday. Two of the May brothers have a September 1 birthday, and so does Jenny & Evan's son Griffin.
Happy birthday, all of you!
And you too, Mark, on September 2.

Saturday morning blog reading, iced coffee, and om.

I tried something new that Lauren pinned on pinterest for Saturday's poolside dip: pickle dip.
It was good.

I spent Saturday at Mom's pool with Stephen, Aub, Keeling and Debbie.
Debbie is my nicest friend, my jewelry maker friend, my sunshiney friend, my up for anything friend,  my wine and beer and cheesey poof loving friend, my always there friend, my we got this/positive friend. Since her family doesn't live in the area, she spends most holidays with us and is an integral part of our family. She shares a birthday with MFD and is like a sister to me.
Love you Peters! Hope you had a great birthday.

Peters and I watched a zillion hours of The Hills at my house after we left the pool.
Spencer and his flesh colored beard drive me to the brink of insanity.
Why can't Audrina ever look anyone in the eye?
JustinBobby, where are you these days?
Inquiring minds want to know.

Every year for his birthday, MFD requests the same meal: his mom's salmon casserole.

+

MFD did a mummer side job on Saturday at the shore, then they blew into my house loudly carousing and yelling, "HOLLAAAAA." They were very amusing. It was another late night.

+

A Sunday visit to Grandmom. The flowers at Ann's Choice are always so lovely.

+

Zucchini pie (see the comment section in this blog for the recipe) for this week's breakfast and corn dip (recipe in this blog) for Aubrey & Stephen's first soiree at their new place.

+

A fun night at Aubrey & Stephen's that included a visit from Swan home from Villanova for the night, deep discussions about the merits of Bruce Springsteen, a campaign for the soul of Mary J. Blige, a vat of red wine, one gazillion sips of tequila on the rocks and yet another late night.
Thanks to MFD for driving me and Peters!

It was awesome to wake up to rain on Monday.
It made it much easier to sleep in and to lay around on the couch all day watching TV.
Sleeping in was much needed after three late nights.
I'm no spring chicken, you know.
It was so wonderful to slip in and out of sleep and never get out of our pajamas.
The dogs enjoyed it too.

Macaroni salad, baked beans, and hotdogs for Labor Day.
And MFD's required birthday dessert: Carvel Cake.

Sunday night visit from MFD's mom, followed by crying time. Weekend's over!

Lots of celebrations this weekend, lots of texts with my best girlfriends, lots of quality time with family and friends. We saw my Dad & Carol, my Mom & Rich, and Michael's Mom. I saw both of my brothers (Stephen three days in a row) and Michael's sister. It was great!

I did not clean my kitchen or make pesto to freeze, which was in the plan...so that's on the docket for tonight.

It's the unofficial end of summer, but guess what beeotches? My vacation is still out there looming large. Only 12 more working days. Word to your mother.

    1. I sort of have the bones of the recipe...

      Medium shells
      ½ block velveeta, cubed
      Pimentos
      Nutmeg
      Breadcrumbs

      Roux:
      1/4C butter
      1/4C onion
      1/3C flour
      3C milk (whole milk)
      Salt & pepper
      Nutmeg

      Cook shells to al dente.

Melt butter and saute onions. Add flour and milk to make a roux. Add salt, pepper, and nutmeg.

Drain salmon, chop pimento and add to cheese mixture. Top with breadcrumbs. Bake at 350 for 30-40 minutes.
